It's quite clear that fans have wanted a sequel for years. The amount of (deserved) hate this getting just cements it. So why do they say these things but completely ignore our input?
a ttyd remake sounds nice but i'd rather we get a new paper mario rpg, probably because i've already played ttyd a million times lol

I wanted to love this game...the opening was pretty cool and interesting. The environments look interesting.
But that battle system man....it seems to have all the problems Sticker Star had. It's kinda sad.

edit: having played the game, I actually liked it a lot and fixes a lot of issues SS had. But, lots of discussion in this comment so I wont remove it. But yeah, Color Splash is pretty good despite the stigma.
I think it will be ever so slightly better than Sticker Star, though. Sticker Star was super generic, and this game atleast looks interesting. But yeah, good ol' story-driven turn-based Paper Mario is long gone...

I disagree, I honestly think the battle system is much better then sticker star, coming from someone who somewhat likes sticker star gameplay, it's a make or break game you'll either love it or hate it.

It's not the battle system I'm bothered about so much as the lack of unique characters and an open world, does every area really need to be inhabited by toads? Do all the other races who actually help Mario in previous games need to all be bad for some reason? They even have the cheek to put that Shy Guy in the beach area and make him look like an NPC but you probably go up to him and it starts a battle, at least they had that dragon, but then again it's no Hooktail

Let our voices be known: Please remaster Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door. If enough fans want it, they'll consider it and that's better than nothing at this point. Little hope is better than no hope.

SebMaster Funny, but no. Really, I want a TTYD remaster the most at this point. At least it was something they said they'd "consider". Since they never said they'd consider going back to the gameplay everyone wants, this is the next best thing and the only hope I have left.

I don't know, but at one point in Nintendo Treehouse Live, Huey says "Too bad I'm just a flimsy piece of paper now. Otherwise I'd go for a swim." This suggests that Huey was transformed against his/her will. This also suggests that there's a new villain, as I don't recall Bowser ever having the ability to transform an object into paper.

Sticker star wasn't horrible, but compared to Paper Mario 64 and TTYD, well it wasn't good. Sometimes change is good (MK8) but sometimes it isn't. I wish we could just have a regular Paper Mario game.
I think the only way people like the new installments of paper Mario is if you didn’t play the older titles. So that’s probably why I liked both sticker star and color splash

Don't get me wrong, that sticker whatever one was HORRIBLE, but this actually looks really fun.
Looks aren't everything. This is note-by-note a carbon copy except for the graphics.
SPM was good, but it had flaws that made it less entertaining than the prior two by far. The story was probably its best element... I'm not really a fan of its battle system which takes less skill (Super Dimentio was the easiest Mario RPG final boss of all time) though, not to mention how badly they messed up the partners with their one-sidedness. The trend of downgrading also began from there, becoming Sticker Star. This game, above, looks better than Sticker Star imo, but worse than SPM.
+STARSLAYER super paper mario had partners at least! And it's story was BY FAR the best in the series! Also the personalities where at least as good if not better than the original!

Totally disagree. Keep in mind I'm not the biggest SPM fan, but even I felt like I was home when playing that game. References to TTYD was in there (Pictures of past partners on a desk, the character Francis has many TTYD merchandise, and you can get past partners cards), the hilarious dialogue was still there, the chapters format was still there, the story was still there, partners were technically (not as great as the other partners) there, pit of 100 trials was still there, cooking was still there, and enemy catalogs was still there.
Literally the only difference was the gameplay. It still felt like a Paper Mario game.

To remind you Nintendo, what fans fell in love with was was the ORIGINAL gams and the ORIGINAL formula. Even SPM was good. But you bring the developers of STICKER STAR? It didn't even sell that well. Cmon guys. Maybe that's why Sony and Msft are kicked your butts. They LISTEN. And besides Infinite Warfare they don't f*ck up the formula. Maybe I'm looking at this the wrong way. Cause after SMG1 the story went away... Kinda. After M&LDT the story left... Kinda. BUT HERE ITS ALL GONE. Just add the RPG, or battles are useless. PLEASE! Hear my plea!

Hey man, I understand you loved the originals, we all did. But do just want paper Mario to be call of duty where every game is the exact same thing. Hey, let's transform "The Legend of Zelda" franchise into a racing game, and all you do is race horses. Does that sound like a stupid idea? Yes, it is a stupid idea. So WHY does Nintendo think transforming an RPG franchise (Paper Mario) that everyone loved into this casual puzzle solver is a good idea? Why even have turn-based battles if there is no RPG elements like partners, skills, level-ups, badges, etc? I find myself questioning nearly every decision Nintendo does lately. looking back 3 years later, Nintendo has REALLY changed. They fixed 3d mario with Odyssey on the switch and kinda fixed mario party. So maybe nintendo is listening to their fans and we can hope for a paper mario with gameplay like TTYD or PM64 and a story as good as SPM. #Storiesnotstickers!

It's pretty much only half though, It deserves more dislikes, but people are blindly liking it because it's so wacky and random, I doubt anyone who liked the video played PM1/2/3, and some probably didn't even play sticker star

You know what's sad, this game looks AWESOME (graphically.) Seriously, the paper aesthetic is beautiful here... but there's a problem.
THIS ISN'T THE F***ING GAME WE WANT NINTENDO. NOBODY WANTED A SEQUEL TO STICKER STAR. NOBODY PLAYS PAPER MARIO BECAUSE IT'S MADE OF PAPER AND THEY WANT TO SEE THE GREAT "PAPER INNOVATIONS" YOU CAN COME UP WITH.
And with Super Mario RPG never getting a sequel, Paper Mario (actual Paper Mario) never getting a sequel, and Mario and Luigi not being fun, it looks like we will never get a true Mario RPG ever again. The one with good stories, good game play, great worlds, and great characters. And that hurts Nintendo, it really does.

You people need to understand that Nintendo is a traditional Japanese company ran in a very top down manner. The Nintendo board of directors all have three things in common: they're old, they're men, and they're Japanese. They have a plan for the direction of their company, and input from fans in North America and elsewhere mean very little to them. Several of them probably don't even know how to get on a computer and browse the Internet to review feedback. Nintendo is a very old fashioned company, there are many like it in Japan. I know first hand from experience working at a similar company in Japan.
And yes, this is the attitude that is killing Nintendo. It will take some major changes and some painful soul searching at Nintendo HQ to correct it, and I have followed them long enough to see this probably will never happen. I don't know what the future holds for Nintendo, but personally I am not optimistic. Breaks my heart but it's true.

there are partners that you can get from killing enemies in battles to help you in other battles when they drop enemy cards but it still isnt like the origional two though, yet i only played paper mario 64 out of the two and i actually found it boring (yes kill me)

5 years later and the creative restrictions to creating original characters are still a thing. Here is, what I would wish for, for the next Paper Mario:
-Original characters
-Partners (like in TTYD)
-Improved battle system
-Badges and experience points (It matters!)
-An interesting story
Keep everything, except the second and fourth thing.
I preferred the way it was done in Sticker Star and Color Splash.

Best graphics we have seen from the whole Papermario series. and the horror concept sounds fun. but you gotta ditch the Sticker star mindset. its ruining the series.

Nintendo. Paper Mario RPG and Mario and Luigi RPG can co-exist. Its okay, we promise. We enjoy(ed) BOTH games. You don't have to kill one series to keep the other alive, we were perfectly fine with both. Just go back to what yall used to do.
1. Bring back turn based combat with experience and leveling
2. Bring back unique partners
3. Bring back the thousands of unique characters the series used to have
4. Bring back the amazing storylines.
5. Bring back exploration, none of this world 4-6 BS, we LIKE exploration. We LIKED taking a train, flying to the moon, taking a blimp, going underground, sailing on a boat. We DONT like cookie cutter super mario bros style level zones, Leave that to the New Super Mario bros series.
6. Small complaint, get rid of the Super Mario World Jump sound effect when he jumps. Its better when he makes noises.
You can't ignore it anymore, You could've gotten away with Sticker Star being a 1 time flop and moved on, but now the fans are being more vocal. The comments are filled with hate. The like bar is smaller than the dislike bar. Any video of Color Splash gameplay is followed by the exact same thing. There are already tons of videos talking about the "death of paper mario" when it easily doesn't have to be this way. Cmon guys, just listen to us. We want you to be good. We dont want to lose faith in yall.
You guys are following the Sonic Adventure path. Sonic Adventure 1: great. Sonic Adventure 2, amazing. Sonic Heroes: was aight. Everything else? Disgusting. Again, we WANT yall to be great. We dont want to have to be writing out these comments. I would much rather have written "So excited for this game!!!!" than this long novel of a complaint.

paper mario color splash is not a RPG GAME. It is a adventure Game.
No experience Points, No Medal, No altenative battlesysteme , mix with reallife Object...... and.. and.. and... ..... the white borderline on Mario is bad.

Do yourself a huge favor and hunt down one of the following 3 games and play it: "Super Mario RPG Legend of the Seven Stars" for the SNES (The original game that led to the Paper Mario series, "Paper Mario" for the N64, or "Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door" for the Gamecube. Once you've played them you will understand. Pretty much this game and the one that came before it for the 3DS, have absolutely nothing in common with the original entries in the series other than the graphics and have lost most of what made those original games fun and different

Yeah, Super Paper Mario did not have an outstanding storyline. It was a stupid love story. Yeah, no thanks.
It was, however, really funny and had an inventive gameplay system featuring switching from 2D to 3D.

Honestly I'm still on an offense with this game. People are saying it isn't Sticker Star when clearly every single mechanic and fundamental it has is directly altered from Sticker Star in some way. *Paint Bucket= Kersti (from the brief moments we were shown here he seems to be just as irritable and Naggy as Kersti. The Koopalings are presented as bosses)* This easily confirms Bowser might be the main enemy again.
While I'll admit that yes, there might be a small reason to fight enemies this time (regain paint meter) there's still no other motive to fight other than to progress forward. Plus it's not like their can't be other methods of finding paint. The couple of positives I can say here is the environments are slightly better and there's more differences with the Toads than just 1 color. But even then they're still plain.

-Bucket=Kersti
-Cards=Stickers, but work slightly different
-Cut out objects similar to Paperize mode
-The over emphasis on Paper puns/jokes (this is really annoying, they seem to forget why they're made of paper, not just for jokes. The whole appeal of the paper aspect came from aesthetic and representation, not just a way to throw in unfunny forced jokes.)
-Things are same things from Sticker Star
Don't get me wrong, though I can see a tad of improvements here like the story having only slight substance to it and maybe the paint thing, but outside of thing everything is literally altered from SS. There's no evidence to hide any of it. I can't really think of any other thing in this game that inspirits from 64, TTYD or even Super. It's still the same to me. Sucks to be a Paper Mario fan. :/ Good luck to anyone trying it though.
While Nintendo comes out wiith a lot of great innovative designs, I feel like there's a handful of properties where they try too hard to "reinvent the wheel" that games like this just seem to be an excuse to test the latest gimmick rather than making those innovations work in a way that coexist and work to the formulas advantage.

Innovation is fine. Rewriting the series' core gameplay entirely and simplifiying the story to stupidity is not fine.
It's sad to see this beautiful art style and soundtrack being wasted on Sticker Star 2.

Other then the gameplay being marginally better, this pretty much confirms what I suspected in that this game is just Sticker Star 2.0. They pretty much removed everything that made the Paper Mario games fun to begin with in favor of cheap gimmicks. This series now no longer has interesting characters (like 90% of the NPC's are toads for crying out loud!), RPG elements, a good story, and engaging mechanics. Miyamoto is becoming like George Lucas in the sense that unless he's kept on a tight leash in the creative department, he'll ruin things if he is given too much control because he's too obsessed with forcing gimmicks into his games nowadays and hyper-simplifying everything. In other words, Miyamoto really needs to stop reinventing the wheel constantly.

It can still be really fun, but in a different way. It's more like a puzzle Adventure game now, and you know what? It could work. Nostalgia be damned!
I can understand wanting to keep gameplay fresh but then there's this. It's like trying to fix something that wasn't broken to begin with. It's a shame because visually this game looks really good, like they really refined the paper aesthetic to its full potential. I'm just disappointed that such a great art style is being spent on gameplay that's no different then standard mario fare.
Sticker star was the exact same thing as this, and it didn't work. At least with SPM they had functional and fun gameplay, a good story, original characters/settings and personality. Sticker star had none of that, and this game is more or less the same, with mildly better gameplay and story with even more bland characters.

I played Paper Mario 2 and after completing it, I said, "How can they possibly top this? It's got everything; it's like Paper Mario on steroids." There won't be another game like it, but the bare minimum must be a game with badge, flower, and heart points and the length of Super Paper Mario: I mean, it's easier getting to level 99 in Paper Mario 2 than getting the highest score in Super Paper Mario. This game is none of that. I also don't see a kitchen anywhere in this preview...

Excuse me, people bitching about the new Paper Mario game? I'm not defending this game or anything, but I think you're overestimating the power of youtube. You can dislike and leave distasteful comments all you like, I doubt they're gonna rework the whole game because the comment section told them to.
We're stating why it's not worth buying, and less sales of this game = more chance Nintendo will take a hint and bring back what made Paper Mario good in the first place.

I sure did! I played Paper Mario on an emulator and played A LOT of Super Paper Mario.

Ey, let the kid like what he likes. He doesn't need reasons. Yes, the game won't come close to the glory of Paper Mario's yesteryear, but like everyone else is saying, it'll be enjoyable for others for what it is.
You have a right to complain and believe what you like, but don't condemn others for their opinion. Perhaps Nintendo will eventually give us the PM we want while continuing to give Scottie the game he wants, too. It all might take a while, but hey; different strokes for different folks.
