  • Learn the Mishaberach Mode starting on E - the scale upon which many traditional klezmer tunes are based. I not only shows the fingerings on the clarinet but, along with annotated graphics, teach viewers a portion of a well-known klezmer tune (Kolomeyka) that is in the Mishaberach mode. If you play flute, violin or any other C instrument you will have to play everything in this video one step down (D Mishaberach). My thanks to Miriam Grunberger, one of the first persons ever to join my online community, for editing this video. #learnklezmer #klezmer #klezmerclarinet

    Oh wow! I learned this mode on guitar as Dorian #4, but I never had any idea in what context it could be used; now that I'm hearing it in Klezmer, I can see how it fits.

      The tune is called Kolomeyka. There are lots of different spellings though

    Thank you for another excellent tutorial. Btw, were you doing single or double lip?

      @RobinSeletskyClarinet  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I play double lip - always have. It's just how I got started. and have never known anything else. robinseletsky.com/my-double-lip-embouchure/

    Very helpful, but how you get the sound? I’m used to play classic clarinet

    • @RobinSeletskyClarinet
      @RobinSeletskyClarinet  ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm a classical player too. Just listen a lot to different klezmer clarinetists and you'll eventually get the sound. You can try this these suggestions as well from another of my videos: th-cam.com/video/h1XsJwBmFx0/w-d-xo.html

      Thank you so much for your response. I certainly follow your lessons because I’m so motivated to play Klezmer.
      Your TH-cam lessons are very clear!

    So basically the mischabera is a half tone minor scale? Like some Phrygian or Aeolian double harmonic but with half tones

    • @RobinSeletskyClarinet
      @RobinSeletskyClarinet  ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, if you're trying to relate it to a minor scale you can think of it as natural minor scale with raised 4th and 6th degrees. There can be some other alterations as well.

      @@RobinSeletskyClarinet Makes sense. Thank you for sharing! I'd love to go back to playing clarinet some day especially learning to do bends which are hard in Klezmer music
