      @@danieltalebi1040 Fantastic! I haven't had any major issues running any of my school programs (Solidworks, xilinx, etc) apperently I'm running on higher that base settings so thats nice HAHA! The battery is holding up quite well but I am putting it through its paces. I usually end up using it down to 20 percent or lower every day and charging while I use it.
      I'm also one to be pretty paranoid about temperature so I baby it whenever I can and I monitor internals with TPFancontrol. I don't ever let it get hotter than 80 °C anywhere in the system.
      I chose tenth gen i7 and that's treating me well. I also chose two, 512 SSD's and they're more than plenty seeing as how I offload as much as I can to my server.
      All in all, very excited to let this see me through the rest of my college courses.

    Nice one Lisa. It looks like the traditional Lenovo T series used to be when they were built like tanks. I'm no fan of these fashionable feather weight plastic pancakes, oft passed off as serious laptops. They thermal throttle shortly after switching on and multitasking drags down performance. Drop them on a corner from table a top and it's time to buy a new one.

    great review, and a beast of a machine -I think I met your channel when you reviewed the P70 and the famous "you can kill a rat witth the power adapter or you can choke a small animal with the cable of the power adapter"... my main complain is the bezels. granted its not very sturdy, it deforms quite easily and its small so you dont have a lot of grip to hold on... but its a viable option when you're on a pinch and dont have those fancy iFixit tools

    My P15 last 2.5 hours on battery having 500nits display, Quadro T2000, 32GB and 10875H. That was the only disappointment with this laptop. I do not believe that any configuration lasts over 10 hours as stated by Lenovo manual. However, otherwise the laptop is really really great, I do numerical mathematics and the laptop can handle 4.6G-4.7Ghz single core workload for a long time (hour...). SuperPI 32M test was finished in 420 seconds, which is quite amazing for a laptop (this is the only single core test, which I find relevant for pure mathematical workloads). It has the best passive cooling properties of all Lenovo laptops. Last but not least it has unbeatable manufacturing quality, in this respect this is the best laptop I have ever seen. Real hardware, which you enjoy everytime you touch it.

    What really gets my goat about the last 6 years of the ThinkPad P-series is the sealed-in battery. I shake my fist at thee, Lenovo! This is primarily why I haven't upgraded from my P50, which, by the way, is still doing the work. As well, I see little value in jamming a 4K panel into a 15.6" form factor. If I was 19 again I might not mind but in my mid-forties with failing eyes this is entirely impractical (at least with the current state of Windows 10 scaling).

      it will be a few years for that, so don't hold your breath. Most workstations/corporate laptops need/want Pro chips (vpro). So we need Ryzen pro chips and then also need Quadro GPUs pared with them and validated and then also get ISV certification on top of that. not saying it won't happen, just not real soon.
      The Pro mobile chips are on the way: www.anandtech.com/show/16545/amd-ryzen-pro-5000-mobile-zen-3-comes-to-commercial-notebooks

    The huge power consumption - and fan noise - is by design, the so-called ultra performance mode Lenovo introduced with this generation of P-series.

      The P15 is heavier, thicker, more upgradable and more powerful (if you go with the higher end CPUs and GPUs offered with the P15).

    Yeah I like my P53 a lot and that is coming from somehow who used to be fully into the Apple eco system. I went back to my roots in that I wanted to be able to fix stuff myself, put more in when needed, etc. etc. This is one of the last laptops to still have that. I basically went that way because I had an aging Mac mini from 2012, it broke 6 years later, I fixed it and it's still running just fine maxed out on specs. Then I saw all the follow-ups.... well... let's just say I only buy stuff to last. The battery sucks big time though and I even have a regular 1080p screen and even with light work it never ever reaches 10 hours, 6 is more accurate, 4 when pushing it.
    btw, I use it to program on, crunching compile times nice and loud. :)

      How's the fan noise on yours? My fans are constantly spinning when plugged in, even when CPU temperatures are in the low 30s. My battery life isn't great either, but I have the 4K OLED display. I get maybe 3 hours on it.

    • @VincentGroenewold
      @VincentGroenewold 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@WaffleusRex The fans are loud yes, but if they wouldn't be, less air is moving around which the chip needs. You can clock the CPU lower by going into the battery icon, lower right, and select it to best battery life mode. That will make it very silent usually. I am waiting on Intel's answer to the Apple M1 chip though, they did proof that concept to work.

    • @VincentGroenewold
      @VincentGroenewold 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JeffreyMcMahon Right, but that doesn't mean much. Everyone has different preferences regarding keyboards.

    • @WaffleusRex
      @WaffleusRex 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@VincentGroenewold I know about that but I don't want to do that. I paid for that CPU. I'm going to use that dang CPU. I just want it to have a more sane fan curve, not have it sound like a jet engine even while idling.
      EDIT: I've also tried TPFanControl, including the fork that controls two fans. It causes my fans to not spin up like crazy while idling but it causes my CPU performance to tank, at least based on Cinebench scores.
