The should have added a looper setting and more tracks that you can arrange and make a full song that would have been awesome thanks anyway for the video

This entire series on the 1000v has been excellent. Thanks for doing it.

I have recently got the casiotone cts500. Looks for me that they are exactly the same except for the virtual voice effects of the cts1000. Is that correct? Can you confirm please?

That is correct. The CT-S500 has the same feature set as with the CT-S1000V, except for the Vocal Synthesis feature. The other small difference is a couple of buttons on the front panel. The 500 has two buttons used to select "Surround" and "ACT DSPs", whereas on the S1000V, those buttons are used to select between "Instrument" (Tones) and "Lyrics" (Vocal Synthesis). The S1000V can access "Surround" and "ACT DSPs" by navigating to them via the menu.

I appreciate your thorough analysis. I have the Ctx 3000 and am considering getting the Cts 500 for the sampling and active DSP's and CTRL knobs. I figure I can at least modify sounds and record the audio to import into a DAW. But, I find with Casio and Yamaha that you have to excuse them for half-a$$ing it by apparently leaving a lot of music locked up inside the chips. Also, it galls me that instead of updating old technology (i.e. sampling, looping, and sequencing), they tend to regress towards primitive technology. It's a strange business model which presents a few upgrades only with several attendant downgrades.
Please forgive my long comment. I'm working out a buying decision

Thanks for the compliment, and I hope that my analysis and conclusion might help you somewhat. I certainly agree that Casio half a$$ed some of the features in the CT-S1000 (and also the S500), though I guess the argument would be that they are not being sold primarily as samplers so the sample feature should be regarded as a bonus. As per my pros and cons list, I did try to identify where I felt they could have implemented features better. Probably the biggest missed opportunity was not making a more comprehensive companion app. A lot of the sampling tools could have been handled by that, and they could have had the app handle all the cutting/ looping/ truncating/ crossfading etc. and then simply load the processed sample into the S1000V that way. That's also why I was calling out for a more comprehensive computer based Data Editor that could handle a lot of the processing work so that it wouldn't need to be done via the Casiotone itself. At the very least, Casio did take on board criticisms about not being able to use ACT DSPs via MIDI, and with a firmware update you CAN now use the ACT DSPs while sending MIDI to the keyboard.
It's still a feature packed and value for money keyboard, though I urge potential buyers to be sure that they are aware of its weaknesses, and also that it offers them all the essential features that they absolutely need.

@@CasioChaosTheory Thanks for the reply. I noticed the Casiotone key bed has been vastly improved over the Ctx 3000's. Also, from your videos, Casio has improved at least the stage piano. The 3000's piano is a little dry out of the box. I wonder, do you know if they've significantly improved the synths?

I have one of these and really like it. I've not tried to plug it into a PC yet for midi. Can I ask you whether you got it to work with Windows 10 on USB 3 ? I have a laptop I want to use it with which only has USB 3. I also have an ASM Hydrasynth, and that will only work on USB 2 on windows 10. As I only have 2 keyboards 3 computers, I can't work out whether the problem was the keyboard, or Windows 10 with USB3. There are lots of comments online that Midi over USB3 is not working in Windows 10

Thanks for commenting! When I recorded the Part 7 MIDI connectivity episode, and also the Part 8.5 Multi-track Recorder and MIDI Update episode, I had my S1000V connected to my Win10 computer via the front USB 2.0 socket. That computer also has some USB 3.0 sockets on the back, so I've just tried connecting the Casiotone to one of those, and with the same USB cable that I previously used with the USB 2.0 socket. I recorded MIDI from the S1000V into my DAW, and also recorded the control knobs sweeping the filter. I was then able to play this MIDI back to the Casiotone, via the same USB 3.0 socket, and it played fine (though I still have the issue of my specific DAW not recording MIDI CC parameter 0 - see my Part 8.5 episode where I examine this).
I can therefore confirm that MIDI over USB 3.0 in Windows 10, with my S1000V, at least in my experience, is working as it should. Hope this helps!

@@CasioChaosTheory Thanks. I'm getting much more into music making recently and trying to get my children into it, and the keyboard we have in the living room is the CT-S1000V. I literally gave up trying to connect my ASM Hydrasynth via USB3 to a Win 10 PC. I never knew whether the problem was with the keyboard, Win 10 or the specific hardware. Glad you had success. I'll try it.
