the smaller toms ahead of him , he has tuned to C# and F.
That C# major third without the fifth kind of drones
Then he turns to the left of the kit where he has the snare and get more into rhythmic patterns. That's a good plan. At one position on the kit have smaller toms tuned to two notes and have the snare to one side. So then you turn in the chair to the rhythm position and turn back when you want to get back to that melodic feel. It doesn't have to be a major third but that was working nicely. One of the floor toms was B but that didn't come through as strongly melodically

What's crazy is when you think you have seen most amazing drummers on TH-cam and whatnot, then you react to this which has been out for a couple of years now.. I must have saw this dude before and for whatever reason never gave him a listen.. Once again you have shined the light on yet another drummer that I never paid attention to. Btw what you mentioned in this vid, you need to do up a solo video yourself.
I find it a bit of an odd irony that most of the top drummers hang their cymbals over so far that they will hit them by accident while playing. Gergo did it here. I've seen Weckl do it, Vinnie do it, Sucherman do it, Steve Smith do it and many others. Of course accidents happen, but they hang them so far over that it's nearly unavoidable. I always kept the cymbals back a bit further so as to avoid hitting them like this even though I know they do it for efficiency and such. Other than that, what an amazing solo by an amazing drummer.
