Next time if there is a nexttime lol try using orange jello. and leave the vinegar out its really uneccesary. I make mine just crushed pineapple with the juice mixed with 1 cup of shredded carrots and a handful of raisons then pour my jello over the mixture in a container I make my jello in and its delisious.
I still make my g-ma's orange Jell-O and carrot salad. Grate the carrot into the warm Jell-O and it picks up the flavor. Put in fridge and after a while mix to balance carrot throughout. Some people put pineapple in it, but no one puts vinegar in it.
That was so cute. I so wanted to jump in the screen and help you unmold the salad as I did that a lot. I am in my 70's and found your exploration of the 1950's jello book really fun! thanks.
Was looking around for how the '50s jello salads were made, and ate, you know, got into a rabbit hole on the internet... Saw plenty... and yours is the best! Your humor, voice and presentation is really pleasant to watch. Subscribing!
Are you familiar with a Pyrex ring mold? I bought one from Ebay because I saw a recipe that used cooked wide noodles mixed with sauce and cheese pressed and baked in the mold. After turning it out onto a platter the hole in the middle is filled with meat and veg. It is served by cutting a pie wedge. It was featured as a 1940's recipe.
I have had a molded lime jello with cottage cheese and pineapple, I don't have a recipe but I know it is out there somewhere. Thanks so much for sharing, I love the retro recipes.
The sunshine jello is my all time favorite., only my recipe called for orange jello and no vinegar, nuts or salt. Pineapple in juice is nasty. Yes I’m older than dirt!
The most adventurous thing that we ever did with Jell-O and other foods were berries. Usually for 4th of July. However, I do remember some other Jell-O recipes that we had growing up. Like ambrosia! Not my favorite desserts, but I'll still eat them.
Berries and jello are a classic! I’m not a huge jello fan myself so it’s not really something we keep around, but the kids like it so maybe I should give it a try for them!
Remember that salad when I was a kid. I don't remember them putting any nuts in it but I always thought it was disgusting. It was something that we had to eat. We didn't eat it because we wanted to we just had to eat it.
The most important thing is that it was beautiful. You could always try unflavored gelatin the next time you try something like this. Very fun video, I laughed out loud.
Thats a good idea! I think the Jello of today is probably a bit more synthetic than the flavored gelatin of the past. I may have to swap some ingredients for my next jello adventure lol
Your faces! 🤣🤣 He's such a good sport but I think he's getting more and more wary of your vintage recipes. I don't think I've ever had a jello mold but I was really thinking you were going for a salmon mold so when you said that...
OMG! We had this every Thanksgiving growing up. But my Grandma used lime instead of lemon Jell-O. I like the flavors but the texture of the carrots is a little off-putting. And we never used salt or vinegar. 🤔😆
Texture? Add more jelly powder next time ❤ water from carrots ? You did good!! I love jello!!
Dip the bowl in warm water to remove jello salad it works
Pro Tip: next time, dip your entire mold into hot water for just a few seconds. It will pop right out! 😊
Yes!

Old cook books are very interesting
I can’t help myself when I find one at the thrift store lol

That sounds like a wild recipe! I love it!
Funny! We had just like fruit cocktail in a green lime jello!
That sounds good! I bet the boys would eat that!

I literally clapped when you got that out intact! Lol
I have to say, this one actually doesn't sound that bad. I like pinea6and carrots.

I’m trying to ease him in to the meats 😂 he knows how much everyone loves him trying it so I think I could get him to try anything at this point lol!
@@ClaireRisper 🤣🤣
🤣🤣🤣 his face...hilarious! Sorry but it doesn't look so tasty, but I don't like jello...but you tried! Hugs from Tennessee
It was not delicious lol, I’m not a jello fan either!!
Hahahah! Your husbands reaction!
Had that salad as a kid. Never a fan. To get jello out of the mold though my mother would dip the mold in warm water to “release” it from the sides

So strange about the salt and vinegar for sure!! Like WHY 😂😂😂😂
try plain gelatin and add lemon juice
Should used apple cider vinegar.
Not having pineapple in syrup is the proble.
change jello to a diff flavor
Claire do you follow Sage Lilleyman on TH-cam. She love Retro like you do.
I will now!! I love vintage content ❤️
This is bad.
Lol that’s the point!
