Cassandra, I must say, finding your channel and becoming a skincare nerd helped my depression, a lot. It forced me to take better care of myself and the beauty treatments I loathed became rituals I keep up with, to regularly pour into myself. I really love how you teach the science too, makes me feel like I’m doing chemical experiments on my appearance daily. Trying to find the combo of potions that work for me 👩‍🔬🧙😂. Anyways stay strong bestie.

    Suggestions:
    - increasing protein intake (my dietician made me have 30g/meal, so about 90g/day. But I was recovering from an ED). Best tasting vegan protein powder/best texture I've found is by Rapid Vegan.
    - DBT (type of therapy. Literally amazing. Usually done in group therapy sessions but some psychs are trained in DBT but also you can go through the manual and do the worksheets.
    - mindfulness (I'm so so sorry) and regular physical activity (again, so sorry)
Also generally treating any psychological issue. There could be something that is undiagnosed and your therapist isn't picking it up. Sometimes a psychiatrist can be helpful. I'm aware that in the US, psychiatrists aren't affordable. I'm obviously only recommending this to you, not others who are reading.
    Okay that's it!

I’m 39, vegan, and have been getting a lot of grey hair and hair loss. People have been commenting that my hair is very red because of the henna I put on it- but really all that is grey hair because I cover it with henna. I feel your pain and struggle. I love that you are being honest and open and vulnerable and not “selling” anything. I can relate to your open emotional expression of crying too! Many vegans try to sell their lifestyle bt maybe it doesn’t work for everyone. With that said, your stress around your hair may also be causing it to fall out. Attachment to the body causes a lot of stress when it breaks down. Ironically people who don’t care about their appearance much end up looking younger over time. So stress management around this hair loss is also important. I wish you all the best and hope you find the solution! Much love

@@christoforosadamantiou2836 so the more obvious answer would be that india has the highest concentration of vegans due to wider culture vegetarianism propelled by religion, but it’s more that there is a high concentration of religious vegetarians who then have the highest number of incidental and occasionally purposeful veganism in the world. Similarly ethiopia has religious fasting days where the main animal food items are not allowed, honey being an exception. These are not stringent things obviously, there’s personal choice involved, just goes to show many millions of people historically and currently have been and are either vegetarian or vegan and are heakthy and fine..

I totally understand the stress of the hair falling out. And having watched this journey had me looking at the (non-microneedling) Methods of regrowing hair if Mom is able to get this surgery for her cancer and she wouldn't be on Chemo anymore.
Not going to lie it's been heartbreaking watching her deteriorate, so every moment of seeing any form of strength coming back have been a success, only to see it two steps back at times. I know this video was recorded on December of 2023, and this was before the other videos techeninelly, That was around the same time I was watching mom not doing good and before Chemo and we were both unsure what was going to happen. It sounds like though there is a small light at the end of the tunnel for you, and I'm hoping the surgery means the same for us. Excited to see the new update soon (as I'm guessing you decided to post the December 2023 video for context for the new one).

Omg she's actually FINALLY using a real FDA approved treatment for FPL. 🤯 That took *way* too long. You should've started minoxidil 3 years ago. Also, SPIRONOLACTONE. Throw all that other snake oil bs in the trash where it belongs. My hair was falling out in clumps like yours Cassandra and since I've started spironolactone my hair fall is miniscule. Such a difference!

Dutasteride has been a god send for me. My dermatologist prescribed it last year and my regrowth has been amazing and the shedding is now a fraction of what it was. I’m on Spironolactine as well but it was prescribed for hormonal/menopause acne. I don’t expect to ever have the head of or amt of hair I used to, but I have soooo much more than I did at the beginning of last year.

  • @Anonymous4444
    @Anonymous4444 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

Cassandra, thank you for mentioning minoxidil for treating hair loss. I have to say that I was pretty disappointed in your last video about your hair loss journey because you didn't mention minoxidil or actual medical treatments for treating hair loss that most dermatologists typically recommend before trying other less studied treatments. I have alopecia areata and have also dealt with diffuse hair loss at times and treatments like corticosteroids (injections as well as solutions and ointments), oral and topical minoxidil, and immunosuppressive biologics were absolutely crucial and extremely effective for treating my condition. Corticosteroids (especially strong ones like Clobetasol and Kenalog) are some of the most rigorously studied and dermatologist recommended treatments for many forms of hair loss and I would personally recommend them to anyone experiencing forms of hair loss like alopecia areata, frontal fibrosis alopecia, or traction alopecia rather than relying solely on less effective treatments like supplements, serums, red light therapy, etc. However, they are not effective for conditions like androgenetic alopecia, so in that case minoxidil would likely be a much more better option.
I think it's also important to note that if you have a condition like alopecia areata, time is really of the essence because this condition can develop rapidly and aggressively. This is why it is extremely important to see a dermatologist right away to start a treatment that reduces inflammation rather than wasting time with things like hair growth vitamins and hair serums to treat the condition at home. Things like hair serums, castor or rosemary oils and shampoos, and supplements will not be of significant help for AA and in the long run are just a waste of money.
Cassandra, It seems like you may be suffering from multiple forms of hair loss and I'm wondering if you've gotten a biopsy to confirm the exact types of hair loss you are experiencing? This might be the best place to start to figure out what treatments would be the most effective for you. Additionally, I understand the desire to try every possible treatment for your hair loss for a greater chance at finding something that works, I did the same thing when I first started losing my hair. Something to keep in mind about this is just that if you are using so many treatments at a time, it can be difficult to determine what treatment is actually working for you. Not necessarily a bad thing, but it can definitely make recovery and future episodes more complicated if you aren't sure which treatment was actually doing all of the heavy lifting. Lastly, I just want to say that I totally understand all of the stress and anxiety that you're experiencing and wish you luck on your hair regrowth journey! Thank you for bringing awareness to this topic and sharing your experience so publicly, it takes a lot of courage and strength and that does not go unnoticed.❤

I'd also like to add that it may be helpful to try using a Ketoconazole shampoo like Nizoral. I also have seborrheic dermatitis and treat it by lathering up Ketoconazole shampoo on my scalp and leaving it for a couple minutes before rinsing out. Seborrheic dermatitis can lead to excessive hair shedding and this has helped reduce the amount that I shed as well as help relieve scalp flaking and itchiness.

Vegamour has been helping for me and my partner (male) - albeit slowly. However, the Act & Acre scalp serum feels wayyy superior and has shown results way faster with infrequent usage (3x a week)
I would also recommend the Moon Juice SuperHair supplement- more budget friendly than Nutrafol and similar ingredients and results for me. I also felt better from a stress management perspective.

Thank you so much for sharing your vulnerable journey with us. I look forward to seeing such videos and I also feel for you. I have tried all things you have, and although I have a different hair/scalp type and maybe even origin of the issue than you, I am trying the same techniques. I have an oily and a none sensitive scalp. As we know things start from the inside, so.... Things that have worked for me personally: eating an anti-inflammatory diet (or you could do the anti-candida diet), taking care of your gut (drinking broth, helping my digestion (I have a vata/kapha dosha so I need to mostly eat warm and heating foods to keep the fire in my digestion so things don't stack up and cause indigestion), eating according to the female body (hormonal levels), so eating pumpkin seeds, flax seeds oils, not intermittent fasting some weeks... Then above my diet I also put a waterfilter in my shower (to reduce hardness of waterm so that my scalp doesnt get irritated), not going too long without washing hair (greasey scalp may lead to inflammation), using rosemary essential oil with ceder essential oil on scalp twice a week, massaging my scalp (especially places with tension), massaging my shoulders with a shiatsu massager, (againg releasing tension so that everything in the body can flow more easily), doing yoga (while also focusing on postures that support blood flow, like standing on your head). Above this I also microneedle now for 2 years. And my most recent discovery, that may suprise you...Meditation. I don't suffer from too much stress, so I don't use it as a tool to relax myself. I use specific techniques to heal past trauma by identifying where it is stored in the body. I also use it to find a peaceful state of mind and seek happiness. Although this sounds crazy, if I do this sufficiently, I see an immediate effect of less fall out by 70 procent in the shower!!! I tried this originally for other reasons, but this was the effect on me, and it took me by suprise. I wonder (especially for women) if this thing we suffer from isn't effected by supressing ourselves, being afraid, and just a build up of old trauma.... which in its turn doesn't supply enough energy to the scalp to promote growth. Another fun tip: binaural beats :-). PS: good luck on your journey and can you please share HOW exactly you use the microneedling in combination with the serum? Before, after microneedling. Before or after a shower, .... Thanks, much love.

I am very pro microneedling scalp, yes, even at home. Microneedle stamp is the way to go. The issues with home use you've addressed. The other issue is people tend to overuse. You only need to Microneedle once a month, and only on the segments of scalp that are impacted. I discovered the benefits accidentally from Microneedle stamping my face, and noticed the hair at my hairline starting to grow very thickly. After treatment just sprayed some rosewater for cooling, soothing. I get that everyone is different, but it this helps someone I'm glad to share what I've learned.

same. I've been fighting against my androgenetic alopecia for years now. I used to take finasteride and it did help but I stopped for multiple reasons.
I then tried micro needling at home, since I had already started doing it on my face and I was hearing good things about it.
I have to say, I think it made a difference. I definitely see more hair and back then I was only using a "natural" rosemary serum.
I will start trying it with a minoxidil product I'm really liking right now, for maximum effect.

I’m trying to figure out if I always had a high hairline or if I lost hair . I barely have childhood photos or any photos of me with clear hairline showing so I’m not really sure . I’d love to grow some more hair at the hairline with needling but wondering if it would just be a waste of time and effort (and pain ).

CASSANDRA! Scalp suncreens! Yes! This is the whole reason I've been on a haircare journey. I sunburnt my scalp where my hair was parted (for space buns :)) when I went to Florida in Feb of 2023. The hair became more scarce and my scalp was visibly angry. It's become much better since I've been doing pure castor oil treatments almost every week. I haven't gone to the derm for this. Was hoping to fix it on my own. Maybe that's the next step for me? But so far I think the castor oil really helped restore my scalp health. Recommended by my hair stylist.
All this to say- keep sharing your journey. Who cares what negative Nancy's and judgmental crazies have to say about it? It's your life. it's your hair. I'm enjoying learning about your process and the things you've tried. Keep at it, girl.

I don't have any suggestions for hair loss, but I do identify with your story. For years, I have struggled with my mental health. I saw multiple therapists, psychologists, and psychiatrists. I tried multiple anti-depressants and anti-anxiety medications that would help a little but never address what I was dealing with. Finally, after 4 years of trying out different medications and therapists, I met with a psychiatrist who looked at me, gave me an ADHD test, and I left that appointment with my first dopamine stimulat because it turns out I have moderate/SEVERE ADHD. I will never forget the first day I took my new meds. The world was quiet for the first time in my life. After that, I had to go through over a year and a half of testing medication doses and combos to find something that worked, but I'm getting there. It's been hard because hormones and weather changes and life changes, but I can finally human for the first time in my life. I can actually DO THINGS! During this cycle, I got to the same point of, "Screw it! I'm tired of all of this! I'm willing to do ANYTHING and EVERYTHING." Once I got to that place, things stated getting better.
Please keep going. Though I don't know perfectly how you feel or what has happened, I can identify with your story of struggle, despair, and pain. Please know that it will get better. Even if you can't believe that it will right now, if you can only hope that it will get better, hold onto that hope like your life depends on it. Because no matter how small that hope is, if you nurture it, it will grow until it becomes a belief and then into a knowledge that you will never be able to deny. ❤

I'm giving you advice based on someone who has previously had chronic pain and health issues including migraines and insomnia. I think you might need to focus on diet, and I don't mean to be preachy at all, but I think getting your iron, vitamin D, and B12 tested to see if you have any deficiencies is important, and supplementing if they are low. Also eating more vitamin-E rich foods (like almonds) can help with hair and skin. Also taking probiotics and thyro-support really helped me as well. Finally, getting your hormones tested by an endocrinologist if you are able to, because things like stress and sleep and hair loss all can be hormonally caused. I wish you luck

Cassandra, I suffered hair thinning/loss bc perimenopause. I have baby fine corn silk like hair, but had a lot of it. I was so depressed and it affected my self confidence. I tried everything and finally went to a dermatologist who suggested men’s strength minoxidil 3x per week. That helped with regrowth but didn’t stop shedding. Then we tried oral minoxidil which did nothing. I’m now in Dutasteride, which he prescribed and I have had a ton of new growth and the shedding is a fraction of what it used to be. Dutasteride is normally prescribed for prostrate issues, but it’s also prescribed for hair loss since it’s shown to regrow hair. While I don’t expect to ever have the head of hair I had in my 20s-30s, I have the best head of hair I’ve had since my late 40s/early 50s. (I’m 58 now)

After 3 years of religiously using this every night (generous amounts), my hair is back to its usual state, and I NEVER thought I would get to this point. Hi Cassandra! First and foremost, I think your hair looks great! I must say though, after listening to your video, I fully relate. You are obviously a very driven and achievement oriented person and like to solve your own problems (maybe to an excessive degree?) I get it, I am the same! I would advise you to continue experimenting with different approaches, but I think that until you are able to fully accept that there are ebbs and flows in life that are beyond our control, I am not sure how much progress you will see. I think IVF is a good example of this. I have heard so many stories of women that struggled on IVF for years before "giving up" and spontaneously getting pregnant. This is not to say that IVF does not work (obviously it does for many), but I think there is something to be said for "letting go and being at peace with whatever outcome may be". I had sudden onset severe rosacea in 2019 ( the postule type). It was so bad that I thought I would be permanently disfigured. I was experiencing extreme insecurity and fear for the future. I was able to finally find a solution after a lot of research, and today I can easily go makeup free. I do understand the desire to try the "kitchen sink" approach, but if you are still experiencing daily emotional distress from not seeing results I fear that the stress will delay your progress. A few things that were not mentioned that you could also consider would be head inversions (to increase blood flow), beef liver or pre-natal vitamins, also, and most importantly a diet rich in fat (including saturated fats) and protein. I have seen many people adhere to an uber clean diet and for whatever reason end counter intuitively up with thinning hair and nails. I wish you all the best, just remember that however difficult this time in your life feels, there will be a time in the future when you are not even thinking about this issue! (just like your acne journey)!!!

I wanted to share my story with you because very few dermatologists will talk about this.
Usually the minoxidil/androgenic alopecia and nutrient deficiencies are discussed by derms. And they tend nit to talk about AUTOIMMUNE hair loss unless it looks like alopecia areata or is the result of an autoimmune condition like thyroiditis, etc.
I contracted a virus 10 years ago and began to lose my hair. They considered it telogum effluvium until it never stopped. I also developed facial rosacea/seb derm stuff.
A year into this nightmare, I ended up in the hospital where I was diagnosed with a rare immune condition which required IVIG immunotherapy. As soon as I received that, my hair began to grow in completely. To this day we don't know what the autoimmunity is to, but when I received IVIG treatments I got a full head of hair again. When they took it away because of a doctor quitting, not only did I become sick again, but my hair fell out *in the exact same pattern.*
I recently learned that dermatologists have the ability to biopsy the scalp to check for autoimmunity but most don't offer it unless it looks like horrific alopecia areata. If you haven't requested and gotten a biopsy yet, autoimmunity could be the cause of this, which is why nothing else is working. Make sure the derms do their due diligence! I am sorry you are going through this.

Years ago I tried hair growth supplements that contained biotin. I'm acne prone and had gone through a very successful oral isotretinoin treatment and my skin had been clear for at least 7 years by then. The supplements triggered breakouts and I stopped immediately and gave up on figuring out my hair thinning problem. I'd rather have my thin hair than having to deal with acne all over again. However, I got hit hard by post-partum hair loss when I had my daughter. My hair was falling out in clumps. Currently I'm doing rosemary oil pre-wash treatment, scalp massages and k-beauty scalp serums. It does help albeit slowly (hair growth cycle is about 12-14 weeks). Minoxidil is not a sustainable option for me. I don't need big voluptuous head of hair; I just want to look healthy.

So weird when people film themselves crying. The fact that someone is crying and in emotional distress and thinks "I'm going to use this in a video!" Is just bizarre to me...

Hi Cass, in my hair supplements that I take (also gummy form 😊) there is added Choline, and is supposed to help with stress, which is so crucial in hair loss, so maybe you should try it.
Another thing s to oil your ends so they don't disintegrate, and, I also used to oil my scalp with Argan oil (that I'll add a few drops of rosemary oil to) and wait with the oil on for 40 minutes before I washed my hair, when my hairwas falling out in clamps. It did a difference for me.
Good luck, and I hope you get great results for your hair growth ❤

You know Cass, there’s no doubt that you’re a good person, kind, charismatic, energetic, motivated. When friends and family think of you when you’re no longer around I am certain none of them will think “she had really thin hair”, they’ll think all of the above.
That being said, you do you boo, if you want to do all these things then go for it, and if it is a form of therapy in terms of distraction then it may help you out of this low spot. But if your cat pees on the carpet and to cover the smell you keep spraying it with perfume, we all know that the only thing that will get rid of the smell for good is cleaning up the cat pee, I think your hair loss is a symptom of the cat pee and once you give yourself the grace to feel, focus on your mental health from every angle, then all your other physical troubles will lessen. I just genuinely believe you could rock a shaved head and still be the most fabulous woman that you are ❤time is a healer, baby steps are big milestones, be kind to yourself x

My hair was thinning out after covid19. No surprise because I was really stressed and malnutritioned. I lessened the number of the times I washed my hair just to be safe, used dandruff shampoo (ketoconazole), and ate more vegetables, healthy fat and protein and occasionally had some multivitamin pills (focused on vitamin bs). It kinda did the job for me. It took me like almost a year to start to see some improvement though.

Try Henna and Sidr as well as oiling and massaging your scalp once a week. Also working on the strength and moisture of your hair is super important to keep it from breaking off- K-18, Olaplex, and a good deep conditioner once weekly :-)

Hair is keratin. Keratin is protein. Hair is protein. You may be lacking dietary protein. Since you make it very clear that you’ve been doing everything, please don’t be stubborn and consider it MAY BE a dietary factor. Vitamin D , thyroid levels etc matter but so does protein level, please do a total protein test.. saying this in the nicest of ways I adore you..

Having been an ex vegan myself, my prior hair loss was purely a severe protein deficiency and all blood work came normal and doctors would say everything was normal but a protein test was never done. Until it was done for an unrelated ailment and boy o boy.

One thing that helped me with my hair when it was shedding excessively was to do a green/black tea rinse. So just steeping the tea, adding it to an applicator bottle when it cools, and leaving it on your scalp for only 5 minutes before rinsing. Apparently the caffeine blocks out the hormone that leads to shedding. I hope this suggestion helps!

Have you checked out Happy Heads? I just started with them. They offer prescription scalp treatments. They have prescribed me Spironolactone and separately they also prescribed a serum that has, 8% Minoxidil, Latanoprost, and Retinoic Acid. I am excited about having prostaglandin combined with Minoxidil.

1.) oral anti-androgen (spironolactone, finasteride, dutasteride) 2.) oral minoxidil
only thing that works for female pattern hair loss. Doing the laser light helmet, hair serums, supplements, high protein diet, prp, and good quality hair products will all help slightly with your hair and scalp health...but nothing really works but the medications. Be care of the snake oils ladies.

Hi Cass! Love your videos. I don't know if this might be of any help, but I was suffering from minor hair loss after a stressful event and the only thing that I changed and that helped me to recover was switching the shampoo I was using.
I was using Olaplex and changed into H&S mint (I know, cheap, but I think the mint really helps with the hair growth) and I stopped using conditioner and hair masks as well.
I'm not saying by any means that this is proven, but it's a cheap option and you can give it a try if you want💕

Have you tried coffee and crushed cloves? My husband stumbled upon it. He was using Chagrins coffee and clove soap to wash his hair. He noticed his hair started growing. He's very bald. I looked up coffee and clover and saw this TH-cam star take one spoon of instant coffee plus spoonful of crushed cloves. Boiled it like a brew. Filtered. Then rinsed hair several times and wrapped hair up in towel to soak. I think this may have similar effect to what my husband was doing with his Chagrins soap.

I suffered from hair loss after getting off hormonal birth control for about 7 years. It got better, it got worse, it was so straining. Last october I started taking an MSM supplement and my hair loss is literally gone. I'm not afraid to wash my hair, I have so many baby hairs around my face, I haven't had so much hair since I was a Teenager. MSM is relatively cheap, easy to use and doesn't have a lot of side effects, but isn't researched that well yet. But it made all the difference for me and I'll continue to use it.

I know how you feel .... my once lovely thick hair is shedding rapidly. Everywhere I look I see hair ... but not on my head!
My problems started when I was diagnosed with thyroid nodules. In the UK they take ages to diagnose thyroid problems - and by the time they did, I had to have RAI (radio-active iodine treatment) for hyperthyroidism. Now I have a non-functioning thyroid and Hashimoto's disease. That has played havoc with my hormones and caused my hair loss.
Strangely, I lose more hair in the autumn and winter (when I need it) , and see a slight improvement in spring and summer. It is now so upsetting that I have ordered a wig. Oddly, my hair looks much thicker when I have just washed it with a thickening shampoo (so they really do work - well the L'Oreal Elvive Fibrology one does for me). However, the next day my hair is thin, patchy and flat again. I don't like washing it too much now - as that causes even more hair loss!
Thank you for all the recommendations ... I have just ordered the Vegamour and the Comfiier Massager ... I hope they work for us both.
You are a lovely attractive lady ... so please try not to stress too much regarding your hair. You would look great - even if you were bald! God bless you.

Hey Cassandra, I feel your pain. I have had a really bad hair fall since moving to the US. I have been vegetarian my whole life and the only thing that's worked for me so far is Marine Collagen by vital proteins taken with vitamin C supplement. I was apprehensive about it for a long time because of religious reasons and the fish smell. I tried lots of oils, shampoos, and supplements but this is the only thing that works. So I let go of religious principles a bit and took collagen for my sanity.

I have trichotillomania and for some reason, I pulled in the area where my bangs are and it was so thin, I looked bald. I bought this powder on Amazon, Boldify Hair Line Powder (cruelty-free, plant-derived squaline per website), and it really looks like you have no hair missing. My sister even thought it all grew back so fast lol. I know it’s not a solution to the hair loss, but it can help cover it up until it does grow back. I hope this helps anyone who is experiencing hair loss as I know it’s really hard to feel like everyone notices your thin areas on your head.

Try using a “comb” that you put the oil based medication in, and distributes more evenly. It’s a round little dome like device. Amazon has them. I got mine from the pharmacy that I get my minoxidil/finasteride and topical Spiralactone from. They are oily, I still have to wash ever other day. But the comb controls how much goes on and then I don’t over apply. Evenly dispenses. I have to put one on in the am and one in the pm as well. If I only used one, once a day, I could go longer.
