The series is getting on to be 50 years old, and it is still as sharp and funny today as back then, and I have no doubt it will still be watched and enjoyed at its centenary.
The scripts are so sharp. Not a word wasted.
I used not to be a cat person but have ended up with three and they’re great; low maintenance, affectionate and they’ve got rid of all the rabbits that were digging up my garden. I like dogs too, but they are more emotionally shallow than cats which make you work for their affections.
And Megan watches this knocking back the Guinness whilst Rigsby goes without his milk stout ! 😉
aha I didn't catch that! So true 😆
@@MeganRuth 😉❤
People were just thin in the70's. It wasn't a choice haha!
Fair!! 😂
All the smoking, blunts the appetite.
AHH the seventies, home of great British comedy
Indeed!
£5 in 1975 was a days wages for my dad. I started work as an apprentice painter in 1980 on £40 a week while a trained painter was earning £90! A terraced house in our area was £8-9k
You could get way more for £5 back then than you could with £37 today .
ahh fair!!
Absolutely you could.
Some facts for you Megan about "Rising Damp." Firstly, it was originally a stage play called "The Banana Box" by the writer (same as the series) Eric Chappell. The cast were; Don Warrington ("Philip Smith") Frances De La Tour ("Miss Ruth Jones") Paul Jones, who was the lead singer / vocalist from the sixties pop group "Manfred Mann" as ("Alan Moore") and the role of "Rigsby" was played by Wilfred Brambell, who was (and still is ) best known for playing "Albert Steptoe" from the timeless classic "Steptoe And Son." It was, I believe, Don Warrington's first professional gig after leaving drama school. Also, in both the play, and the first episode of the tv series, "Rigsby" was actually called "Rooksby." "Rooksby" is actually the title of the pilot (first) tv episode. Bit of trivia for you there Megan. X
Thank you for sharing!! :)
@@MeganRuth My pleasure Megan. Have a lovely day. X
There were no fast-food chains in England in the 70s. That was when the obesity problem started.
@jasongoodacre There were thousands of fast food chains in the 70s. They were called chip shops. 😁
Nobody forces people to eat their food
@@Poliss95 Fish and Chips is a meal that English people usually only eat once per week. It doesn't make you fat cause is actually natural food that fills you up. Fast food is bad for you and causes obesity cause it doesn't fill you up and you keep wanting to eat more. It's designed that way. Hence the link of fast food to obesity. And why before fast food most people were not overweight.
Leonard Rossiter was such a wonderful actor but this program was absolutely so funny
Petting a cat lowers blood pressure!!👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
If that's true it's a shame I'm allergic! 😂
@cynthiaschultheis1660 That's because they scratch you and let all your blood out. 😂
It's appropriate that Eric Chappell's next big sitcom for the network was the hospital-comedy 'Only When I Laugh', where the hypochondria on display here becomes a more obvious feature.
"Only When I Laugh" is another great sitcom. Funnilly enough, I recall not liking it all that much when it first came out. Well, I was only 11 at the time ! However, nowadays I find it really funny. Another great Eric Chappell series.
Hi Megan, hope you are well.
Everybody warms to Rigsby sooner or later. You could even feel sorry for him sometimes, that's how well acted that part is. The thing to notice is that the joke is always on Rigsby. Phillip knows what Rigsby's prejudices are and uses them to his advantage, because Philip is much smarter. Glad you are enjoying this classic show.
P.S. We'll just have to agree to differ when it comes to dogs and cats. LOL ;-)
You will see "Phillip Smith" actor Don Warrington again if you get around to the brilliant series Death In Paradise!
great show, great reaction
Thank you!! 😊
You’ve still to see my favourite episode, there’s no spoilers to which it is. This is still high on the list, Leonard was always holding Vienna like he’s going to throw him away
FRANCES LA TOUR IS HILARIOUS IN "VICIOUS" WITH SIRS McKELKEN AND JACOBI AS ELDERLY GAY COUPLE.😂😂😂❤❤❤👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
"Nobody's going to rape you, Violet."
"What an awful thing to say!" 😂
Great episode Megan 👍
I always find those inflation calculators are way off. I pint of lager in 1975 was 20p, now it's £5.90 in London, so I'd say the £5.00 bet in 1975 is worth more like £150 in today's money.
Twiggy was the early 60s.
😊😊😊😊 Great ,I liked the line The beach goes back 500 miles ❤❤.
My first monthly pay cheque yes mouthy pay cheque was 18£ and ran a car on that ; that was in1972
5quid back then was 1 weeks rent , so if someone offered to pay one s rent for a week today I think most people would take up the challenge, that's wear the excitement is in this episode, 🙂
This is a good one, one of my favourites, best part of this episode is when Alan says to Rigsby "where's your backbone?" and Rigsby says "if I carry on like this you'll be able to see it!"😄😄😄
Struggled for money to eat properly in my house 70s
Check out Morecambe and Wise with Leonard Rossiter doing The Andrews Sisters
your not wrong about the giving, i used to deliver take aways, we got more tips from the poorer estates, than the wealthy, the wealthy used to have the bill counted to the penny,
Vienna seems more relaxed than usual. I hope they've not been drugging him.
I always thought Frances La Tour would've been great as Eleanor Roosevelt!!👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Notice how Philip methodically counts out Rigsby's winnings in individual pound notes. Of course, pound coins were introduced in 1983 to replace £1 notes, which were discontinued in 1984.
Now ask google how much a pint 🍺 was then 🤔😃…🧐👏

Hi Megan
Not sure if you read the comments but you have such a loyal fanbase here on YT
I wondered if you would ever consider a side channel to promote your OF?
Most other OF creators have a channel here on TH-cam where they post things like outfit try-ons, yoga pose challenges, shower routines etc, as a way of promoting their OF
Such a side channel would no doubt bring in a LOT of views, but also generate interest in your OF
Anyway I hope you see this and are doing well
Aki x
Cat can play and chase balls cats can go for walks and do have cat collars and leads they are loyal
