The moment when Phil shows he can knock the heavy bag to pieces was hilarious.

Iirc correctly, Leonard Rossiter and Don Warrington once played squash or tennis together - only for Rossiter to come out on top! Which makes all this pretty ironic. Mind you, you can see the energy he puts into this performance. It would be interesting to note your reaction to his other major sitcom success, 'The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin'; a very different kind of character, but one which also capitalizes on his terrific screen presence.

*Grot* was an hilarious concept. Copied of course these days, by Aldi & Netto.. lol
I didn't get where I am today. Without knowing what a great comedy was. roflmao

As for Rigsby constantly barging in on Miss Jones - it was 1975, when tenants' rights were not quite as well defined as they might be today, especially in the bedsitter arrangement where the landlord lived on the premises.
I've seen this episode countless times over the years but it never fails to bring tears of laughter to my eyes. I think the writer, Eric Chappell, was terribly under-rated. Considering he wrote not only Rising Damp but also several other hit series, such as Only When I Laugh, The Bounder, Duty Free, Home To Roost, Singles and Haggard. Perhaps it was because they were all ITV series when critics would tend to favour BBC productions?

Enter Rigsby - " never seen that side of you before Miss Jones " Rising Damp - classic British humour we'll never see the like of again

Not matter the countless times I've watched this episode, it never fails to make lol, which is the sign of a truly great comedy! :) Your wonderful reactions makes watching this classic series again even more refreshing, it's such a joy. You saying Michael Jackson got the idea for writing "Black Or White" from watching Rigsby made me belly laugh, loved that. 😂

Well endowed meant exactly the same then as it does now.
Rigsby walks in uninvited because he doesn't understand that he might not be welcome.

Alan's joke at the end, "Can you ride tandem?", is a reference to this UK PG Tips tea commercial, which is one of a series that featured chimpanzees from the 1950s to the early 2000s: th-cam.com/video/8ESVA9EgTSM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=TeKJV84HAV08Y19K

The fight scene is superbly choreographed. Rossiter was in the great tradition of Chaplin and Keaton.

Love this episode, my favourite part is when Miss Jones says "I took an inventory of my body and I was shocked" and Rigsby replies "nothing missing was there?"😄😄😄

My favourite episode in the series, is faultless however each one is fantastic. Can see Leonard is laughing when Alan is giving the ‘come out fighting’ line

Contrary to this episode Leonard Rossiter was very fit. I used to to work with someone who regularly played squash against him (and usually lost)

Favourite episode that and nice to see a full one cause I can't get anyone's patreon content to play properly even when it's free, so not an option for me, so thank you Megan.

I almost forgot you were doing Rising Damp, what a great treat, love it.
FYI as a Rising Damp super fan, you may be requested to react to Rising Damp the movie, IMO seriously disappointing, exact same jokes lifted from various episode, and pieced together, without of course the great Richard Beckinsale.
    Take it easy buddy, bex.

As a huge Rising Damp fan from childhood, I wholeheartedly agree with you. It's not awful by any means, but it's not a patch on the TV show, especially the first 3 series, which are amongst the finest sitcom comedy episodes ever made.

The 'big screen" cinema format lessens the claustrophobic bedsitter vibe of the TV originals.

I would imagine 'well endowed' meant the same then as now - but I wouldn't know, I was a small child back then...haha. A double-entendre that suggests he could mean either, but Rigsby would say he meant that nature blessed him with a great body generally rather than that specific area you're referring to.😏

5:38 In my late teens I found myself addicted to working out. Weight training though not body building.
As time moved on, I could only dream of running up the stairs, like I once could.
Now in my late 50's, my only dreams are for an electric stair lift and an orthopaedic bed. LOL

I have never been into movement of any sort. I like the odd walk. I don't mean walking oddly just walking on the odd occasion. But until there is something worth running for. Or until there is something worth lifting other than me off a chair to go to the kitchen for tea and cake I shall remain lazy. Mind you I remember this episode at the time when I was working and so nothing much has changed.
