I don't own this-blahblahblah
He feels so strongly about the hacked vending machines that he needs to say the same thing twice. That's our Ryan.
2:00 A man builds, a parasite asks "Where's my share?".
"To build a city at the bottom of the sea! Insanity. But where else could we be free from the clutching hand of the Parasites? Where else could we build an economy that they would not try to control, a society that they would not try to destroy? It was not impossible to build Rapture at the bottom of the sea. It was impossible to build it anywhere else."
Fair point though, I mean even if Atlantis WAS real can you imagine the torment and hell it would go through throughout the ages? It's either better off lost and never found or LONG LEFT DEAD
oh Ryan... you fell so far from grace that you began to forget or ignore your own philosophy. :(
Hurray for exceptional writing, yo.
My words of wisdom.
Andrew Ryan why so low?
Hey Quick Question. How, knowing full well that you are building a society on the ideals of self centeredness, did you expect it to not fall apart. Why didn't you see that if everyone worked for themselves, conflicts of interest will arise. I.E. Civil War.
Without a doubt one of the most interesting characters I've seen in a game. Interesting to listen to his beliefs
Definitely one of the best video game stories ever
Objectivism's biggest blind spot is the assumption that everyone holds the same adherence to the rules. Hence Fontaine/Atlas.
It's amazing how perfect of a take down of Ayn Rand this game is. Can never exist in anything but a vacuum.
In all likelihood in an objectivist society , men like fontaine and atlas would have been stomped out the moment they sprung up. The reason rapture failed was due the existence of ATOM.
Jesse Kelly And Atom was first created by the initiation of force upon the little sisters, so it seems the breaking of Classical liberal/libertarian/objectivist values was the source of the society's undoing.
@@cocoTr33 Eh, initiation of force is still acting on your own desires, & isn't that what Objectivism promotes? Having a 'non-aggression' rule seems a bit contradictory when you consider that, doesn't it?
"What's the difference between a man in a parasite" is one of my favorite quotes in this game
What a great voice actor too
A TIME TO BUILD

His own paranoia pushed him over for me. He even says in the diary that he believes in free will, but due to desperate measures is willing to control the minds of others. Rapture had obviously failed, and he committed atrocities to preserve something that was no longer there.
His deep voice...Jesus, it sends chills down my spine every time he talks! Armin Shimmerman is AWESOME!
It's kind of funny. He became the very thing he despises. To me, he was no better than Fontaine.
I wouldn't say they're the same, but parallels of different interest and genuinity. Frank Fontaine, no Frank Gorland, was a mob boss who just wanted everything, and a need to control all the wheels as corrupt as possible. Andrew Ryan did end up becoming like him, but rest assured, in the BioShock: Book, it reveals a bit more insight. He was genuine, thoughtful, and a bit more human like, but he knew he had to be cold to preserve the concept of what made Rapture a grand dream to the world. Frank Fontaine gave no fucks, didn't raise any concerns, just out to enslave Rapture to his will. The one key difference between them is Ryan worked hard to gain his position, Fontaine took treacherous and deceitful methods of short cuts to take things that didn't really ever belong to him. :)
@@mikel-lorenzilasco8075 which is the real BioShock book? I looked it up on Amazon but there was a couple different ones
@@magamynaga5205 Probably replying late, but I guess it's the book "Rapture" by John Shirley.
@@markomilojevic6940 thank you i forgot about this
Long live Ryan.
Did everyone go crazy in Rapture?
+TurnBased Combat not everyone, the majority of people went crazy due to plasmids but some people didn't do plasmids (like Ryan) and remain relatively normal (remember Julie Langford in Arcadia she was normal), however most of them where killed by Splicers, or Ryan.
Why do I see you everywhere
probably because I haunt things.
the best game ever
All of his audio diaries are excelent, but my favorite quote is:
"To question is to surrender! I...will not...Question!" 3:05
Modeling a villain after Walt Disney... Pure genius.
6:36 really struck a chord with me. Brilliant.
A man chooses, a slave obeys!
What is the difference between a person and a troll? A person makes a video. A troll asks "First comment!" A person creates. A troll says, "Where's the dislike button?" A person invents. A troll says, "Watch out, or you might tread on the toes of TH-cam...(Since I stoled from you and now I'll sue you)"
The maarket is paaatient
I want to do more than just like, subscribe and favourite the video. BUT THE PARASITE SAYS NOOO!!!
A man of philosophy
he became the very tyrant he tried to run away from how ironic.
You have "Vandalism" in here twice.
Still great.
get this, he also does the voice of Councilor Valarn in Mass Effect.
What Zaqco said, Armin Shimerman. The guy who played Quark in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. :)
I loved Quark in DS9. Ive watched them all! :)
So apparently Andrew Ryan is voiced by Armin Shimerman, a.k.a, Quark from Star Trek DS9. Mind = Blown.
When you think you're free but you're actually a servant to invisible spooks and a notion of a god-like free market.
You never put in "impossibe anywhere else" !!!
I didn't misunderstand it. For a good chunk of the game he was the villain, and then Atlas revealed his true identity. Andrew certainly wasn't a good guy.
I hope audio diaries appear in Infinite.
Armin Shimmerman is BOSS.
Andrew Ryan 2012
You did hack vending machines twice
@dogstyles in objectivism you don't use force except in retaliation
"I espouse an ideology based on personal freedom but in order for it to work everyone has to agree to act the same way"
Have you ever even met a human? Seriously, you people ignore human nature as much as the Communists, and you'd cause just as much harm if your ideas ever got any traction.
Objectivism also espouses egocentrism as the best way to live life. Is it not very in-keeping with Objectivism to disregard the other principles because they stand in your way? After all, it doesn't seem overly convenient to follow some rusty old 'Non-Agression' rule when agression is sometimes the easiest way to get what you want? Part of the reason I hate Objectivism is because of how contradictory it is.
You should know that the audio for this video has been removed.
yes sir
@CANNAN67 how so?
Can you update these with the Ryan the Lion lessons?
The gist is that contrary to popular belief, Objectvism/Libertarianism will lead to failure.
zonilo1
Yes. Only some are worthy of the freedom and power it provides.
where is impossible any where else????
NO NOT MY PHERAMONES!!!!!!!!
Read Atlas Shrugged By Ayn Rand. The political philosophies were based somewhat on that book.
Canadianloyalist123 Yeah that's why the guy's called Atlas. Overall I thought the book was interesting, but it was an obvious political thesis, with extremely warped depictions of every group and a pretty dull story.
Where's the "God did not plant the seeds to this Arcadia... I did" diary? was it on here?
My favorite at 2:00
1:41 This perfectly describes Occupy Wall Street.
Whos the voice actor? He has an awesome voice.
Armin Shimerman, who also plays Quark in Deep Space 9.
"The market is patient. And we must be too."
Obama and Bush should have played bioshock.
Stimulus fail.
Wall-street bailout fail.
Trying to spin BioShock as a thesis for small government is a bit silly, since all of Ryan's eloquent words amounted to a failed society exactly because of a lack of regulation.
@@lazypoo6117 It's because he became a tyrant. play the game.
@@blackfedoramedia6498 Ryan chose not to regulate ADAM even as Fontaine became more powerful due to his principles, which contributed heavily to the existence of splicers. Ryan eventually did abandon his convictions, but not before said convictions worsened Rapture's situation heavily.
@@85percentnation Hello I actually would like to inform you I've become a lot more open minded since reading this, I'm no longer a fan of anarchism. Actually a monarchist now. I understand the importance governments play now.
@@blackfedoramedia6498 I'm personally a republican (as in the normal political context rather than the American political party), but I don't think that monarchies do any harm.
@anglerfishproduction Argh! Have...no...choice...
They must've deepened Shimmerman's voice cause it sounds nothing like him
yeah, I didn't detect a hint of Quark
@@filipinowhiteboy He sounds quite a bit like Quark when he's talking about not regulating ADAM in my opinion.
@@85percentnation Here and there, I can detect him. But not much.
@@filipinowhiteboyYeah, I could see why.
Can we stop with the Andrew Ryan praise? He's like one of the primary villains of the story you do realise that right?
7:19 3:41 these are the same video
85 likes and 0 dislikes? OMFG
The villain that far too many Libertarians looked at and said: “Yeah that’s my guy!”
Did ryan do anything other than think about his beliefs and rapture? Like bruh get a hobby. Ranting about ThE pArAsItE and tHe MaN and tHe StAtE all the time will drive you nutty.
@pyramidheadkitten9
Me too.
objectivism fail.
but the game doesn't promote any.
