    "To build a city at the bottom of the sea! Insanity. But where else could we be free from the clutching hand of the Parasites? Where else could we build an economy that they would not try to control, a society that they would not try to destroy? It was not impossible to build Rapture at the bottom of the sea. It was impossible to build it anywhere else."

      Hey Quick Question. How, knowing full well that you are building a society on the ideals of self centeredness, did you expect it to not fall apart. Why didn't you see that if everyone worked for themselves, conflicts of interest will arise. I.E. Civil War.

    Objectivism's biggest blind spot is the assumption that everyone holds the same adherence to the rules. Hence Fontaine/Atlas.
    It's amazing how perfect of a take down of Ayn Rand this game is. Can never exist in anything but a vacuum.

      In all likelihood in an objectivist society , men like fontaine and atlas would have been stomped out the moment they sprung up. The reason rapture failed was due the existence of ATOM.

    • @cocoTr33
      @cocoTr33 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Jesse Kelly And Atom was first created by the initiation of force upon the little sisters, so it seems the breaking of Classical liberal/libertarian/objectivist values was the source of the society's undoing.

      @@cocoTr33 Eh, initiation of force is still acting on your own desires, & isn't that what Objectivism promotes? Having a 'non-aggression' rule seems a bit contradictory when you consider that, doesn't it?

    His own paranoia pushed him over for me. He even says in the diary that he believes in free will, but due to desperate measures is willing to control the minds of others. Rapture had obviously failed, and he committed atrocities to preserve something that was no longer there.

      I wouldn't say they're the same, but parallels of different interest and genuinity. Frank Fontaine, no Frank Gorland, was a mob boss who just wanted everything, and a need to control all the wheels as corrupt as possible. Andrew Ryan did end up becoming like him, but rest assured, in the BioShock: Book, it reveals a bit more insight. He was genuine, thoughtful, and a bit more human like, but he knew he had to be cold to preserve the concept of what made Rapture a grand dream to the world. Frank Fontaine gave no fucks, didn't raise any concerns, just out to enslave Rapture to his will. The one key difference between them is Ryan worked hard to gain his position, Fontaine took treacherous and deceitful methods of short cuts to take things that didn't really ever belong to him. :)

      Objectivism also espouses egocentrism as the best way to live life. Is it not very in-keeping with Objectivism to disregard the other principles because they stand in your way? After all, it doesn't seem overly convenient to follow some rusty old 'Non-Agression' rule when agression is sometimes the easiest way to get what you want? Part of the reason I hate Objectivism is because of how contradictory it is.
