Yeah, it was def not your typical route. His parents were thinking WAAAAYYYY out the box with this kid. Great talent though so I guess it all made sense to them, as It did pay off quite handsomely. Cool vid but I will also add that his brief college pitching career, was a total bomb. He threw hard but got rocked pretty much every time they let him have the ball until they realized it was a terrible idea. lol.

Bryce has been my favorite player for a while now. He was the only guy I would check on when I fell out of love for baseball. He was just a confident kid who worked hard, but literally 10s of 1000s of grown adults despised Bryce for this. What isn't mentioned in this video too much is the sheer amount of hate Bryce received every game. There are now a bunch of clips of Bryce being called overrated before smashing a home run. That started when he was 14. How he spent 4 years playing in front of bigger and more hostile crowds, taking it in stride is just amazing.
Say what you want about his inconsistency in the MLB, about 99% of players would take even his worst season's numbers and only a handful of players ever can say they have multiple MVPs

I remember watching that 6-6, 4 HR game in 2010 during the junior college world series.... let me tell you, the hype was impalpable, the crowd was absolutely stunned... I thought to myself, "this is what it must have felt like to see Tiger win his 3rd straight amateur championship, to see Griffey at Moeller High in 87, to see Arod at Westminter Christian in 93, or even Serena in the 99 US OPEN final"
Sure fire phenoms. I honestly thought Bryce was going to break baseball. To this day the best 17 year old I'd ever seen. And at that moment in time, I woulda been hard pressed to name ONE team in the majors where he wouldn't be able to start in the outfield as a 17 YEAR OLD!. Unreal moment.

  • @craigwheeler4760

It's really crazy to see the way Harper and Trout have evened out in terms of results.
Trout -- Started out super hot and healthy. Now he can't finish a season, is plagued with injury, and plays on losing teams.
Harper -- Always had good, not great teams, started out getting hurt in a lot of seasons, but got healthy at the right moments. Now he's playing a lot of games, having MVP seasons, and taking his team deep into the playoffs with clutch hits and moments.
Both guys are team players, but I think Harper is the ultimate teammate and player. He changed positions twice to help his team out when needed. His play at first base is amazing, when you consider he never played 1st in his entire life until last year. To even be a league average defender at 1st is incredible for someone new to the position.
Ever since 2020 Bryce Harper has been at least equal to Trout. He's been on the field way more games, produced more hits, more RBI, and won an MVP.. Harper has taken his good team to the playoffs, and nearly drug a mediocre team (that was not much better than the Angels' team in 2021) to the playoffs by himself, on the back of his 2nd MVP season. Whenever he gets on a team that would go to the playoffs without him, like the 2022 squad, he gets that playoff team to game 6 of the WS. That's a great player.
I would love to see what a healthy Mike Trout would do on a team like the Braves or Astros. He's tear shit up!

He talked about wanting to go to the HOF in pinstripes before he was even drafted (knowing he was never going to get drafted by the Yankees because they never have top 5 picks). His swing was made for the Stadium. And he would've been the perfect larger than life ARod type personality to Judge's Jeter (though obviously without the off the field problems ARod had - but every ounce the competitive fire and incredible passion for the game as a baseball rat that ARod had). He could've kept his number 34 too (a number he chose because it adds up to 7 for Mantle).
