John Myung is marvelous on his playing and techniques, there is no doubt. However Victor Wooten is more than a bass player and techniques to me. He can surprise you through a bass and the way how he create music. Respect both of them. All time favorite.
Myung is easily one if the greatest bass players alive today! However i must say i firmly belive that Victor is THE greatest bass player to have ever lived

On the contrary, Victor Wooten played bass on 3 out of 7 songs on the Octavision project (not a band) debut. This is his only appearance on any Progressive Metal album ever and this does NOT make him a Progressive Metal Bassist. Please find the error in this comparison... Anyway, both are brilliant bass players of their genres, which is certainly not ProgMetal for Victor. But he did a decent job on the stunning Octavision project debut (I have a copy, not easy to get). His appearance is just showing that such a talented musician does not care about genres. It's just about the music.
Lemme put this in keyboard terms. Victor is Jordan Rudess where John is Kevin Moore. Technical mastery vs artistic sensitivity…I wouldn’t presume to call either one better because at a certain point in your musical development, it becomes more about style and taste than “better vs worse”

Myung is just another very good band bassists. Such a shame Myung with all his potential never exited his comfort zone. Myung problem is also, that his base lines could be better mix in some albums. Sorry but overall I have to give credit to Wooten as he is simply superior in this duel and I think Myung would agree ;)

One of them is a groundbreaking Bass player, and the other is just jonh Myung, a great bassist. I don't wanna be desrespectful, but there's no comparison, Victor Wooten is one of kind.
And to stay with the topic: John Myung is basically "Mr ProgMetalBassist", he defined and formed the genre with his band for more than 36 years now. Victor played on 3 out of 7 Octavision songs, that's all he contributed to Progressive Metal. This video is a "vs" for a ProgMetal Edition. Victor would be the last I would consider to be a ProgMetal bassist...
I'm bass player... although john myung never play slap bass(not his style)... In his class..impossible he can't play slap like wooten...in the other aspects myung more better than wooten.. john myung right hand and left hand technic so insane...
Well first of all; how great does Victor sound on that Jazz Bass? Wow! Myung is awesome but Victor is icon and a trailblazer. If Victor had chosen to focus on metal he would have been untouchable in that genre…..than God he didn’t go that direction because he’s done much more interesting music. But seriously, his tone is way better on the Jazz Bass…..and metal is lame.
John Myung is a great Bass player no doubt about that. His playing in Dt , and his solo projects with the Jelly jam and Platytus, that only had two albums are great you just hear and see another side of JM his Bass playing skills, and oh ye, not to forget his one and only Instructional video "Progressive Bass Concepts", in my opinion a great hit of all times, very learn full for advanced Bassplayers. I just wish that he would be more open about his bass playing, and do some more Bass instructional videos and solo projects, teaching how to play his style of Bass. But JM is a very quiet shy person, so ya that's just him. Victor Wooten doesn't need any comments, he is a great Bassplayer awarded with many grammies and awards. He is a Bass virtuosy and a Bassplayer in many bands ,and his his Bass instructional video are great and very learn full as well. Enough said...

The worst was live at Luna Park. Can't believe John and JP allowed that mix to happen.
