Congratulations on your new truck. I have a 97 crew cab k3500 srw 6.5 TD. Really like it and enjoy wrenching on it. I agree with you on maintaining and restoring older trucks. I agree with others on the oil line upgrade, relocating pmd, lift pump upgrade, lift pump wiring upgrade definitely necessary. FTB mod, intercooler, 4" exhaust and better turbo help a lot.
    Enjoyed the video.

Looking nice. These are the most reasonably priced trucks in the diesel game. Get them while you can. My 4x4 suburban was in the tranny shop this year, and they were getting a lot of guys wanting to buy it.

RichieTNY I agree. Yes there are more powerful engine types out there, but for the money and all around performance it’s hard to beat.

I ended up paying $6,000 for my 98 K3500 6.5 turbo. Try buying a 4x4 Cummins or powerstroke(God forbid, an LBZ Duramax) with 113,000 original miles for less than $15,000 lol

Thanks for watching and commenting Steven. And congrats on your 95. I really feel that these trucks are hidden gems. Not crazy power but they work when you want them to work. The" turtle" or the "little train that could" metaphor works good on these. Take care.

I'm really glad I stumbled across your channel... I'm like minded in alot of ways just younger (hell your 6.5 is older than I am). I've come to realize already that the newest and biggest doesnt exactly mean it's the best... I've got a 2006 F250 with a 6.0 I'm restoring for the same reason you have the chevy and with any luck I'll be buying my 6.5 suburban back now that I'm in a little bit better place in life to afford the project and have a loving wife that puts up with my projects lol I've got 6 going right now unfortunately

Leonard, I think you would be pleased with the fuel economy gains. Like I say in my videos, get up and go is not as good as the 454 but fuel mileage, dependability and possible performance mods, I think it's definitely worth looking into if you tow. Great video! Since your doing alot of towing with it I strongly recommend the Leroy diesel upgraded oil cooler lines turbo drain and upgraded lift pump. The old oil cooler lines tend to leak and blow off the fittings. The factory turbo drain is also kind of a stupid design and they tend to leak as well. From factory lift pumps don't put out enough PSI to keep the injection pump happy so his lift pump supplies a little bit more fuel to keep it happy. Also are you older duraMax fan keeps them really cool. And a cold air intake and 4 inch diamond eye exhaust wakes them up a bit and you get better EGTs and MPG. 6.5s get a bad rap but they are actually great engines I have a 2000 k2500 W/T and a 1996 c2500 W/T they are great trucks!

Pour some ambient temp water on that sensor and around the thermostat housing. Then, mine would start right up. Kenny, thanks for watching and commenting. I agree the stock keys can take your truck up but in looking at the keys side by side, the lift keys allow for about 1 to 2 more inches of height adjustment before topping out on the frame above. But, by all means, you can crank up the stock ones and get some lift out of it. Take care.

ThunderAppeal, gas mileage is not as good as I had heard it would be. I typically get 12-13 around town and then about the same on the highway. One of the things the 6.5 is known for is good gas mileage. Just not in my case I guess. I have 3 6.5 diesel's and they all get around 13ish. I had a suburban last year that got around 16. Hope that helps and thanks for watching and commenting.
