The King Family Flies South for the Summer!

Growing up in LA in the 1960s, just about any warm day was spent at the pool or the beach. From 6th grade (1968-69) through high school and beyond. We'd listen to AM radio. Mainly KHJ with "The Real Don Steel". While at the beach he and the other DJs would say "hey, you boss kids, it's 'tan turnover time!' you'd see every person along the coast of Los Angeles flip over on their beach towels to roast the other side. It was hilarious sight to see.
If we were at home Mom or my big brother Ric ruled the stereo and in our home the music of choice was Jose Feliciano (I know i may make enemies here but I way preferred his version of "Light My Fire" to The Doors. There. I've said it) or the incredible sounds of the Bosa Nova craze that began in the early 60s with Carlos Jobim, Laurindo Almeida, Sergio Mendez and Brazil '66, and Astrud Gilberto (Girl from Ipanema) who passed away just this year. We'd swim all day til our eyes and throats burned from the chlorine while dad would light the BBQ with lighter fluid and briquettes. You know the ones. It was this way at all the King Sister's houses. So with music from South of the border in mind, for King Sister Wednesdays, here's a medley we did on Hollywood Palace that begins with the King Sisters, but plays out with all the factions of the family like a finale. Ojala que lo disfrute!
