Days Like These "The Pill" (British remake of That 70s Show)

- Many words have been written about how the US takes and ruins British shows but once in a long while, the reverse is true. Here is an episode of the sole series of Days Like These which was ITV's attempt to redo That 70s Show for a British audience. This episode is a remake of same 70s Show script in season one, The Pill. Interestingly, if you look at the Internet Movie Database, you'll see that many of this cast went on to have very successful careers and others just faded into professional obscurity.

The timing is off and all the male characters look like each other. Strangely though, if you told me this show was actually shot in the 70s, I'd believe it. The filming quality is the same as British 70s shows.
British shows... the filming is in a much lower definition. The UK entertainment industry doesn't have as much money as that in the US.
It was filmed on vintage 70s bbc cameras.
Get some good scripts, good actors, original characters and they could do a show about a group of friends hitting the end of adolescence in the 70s. Maybe a dramady, not a sitcom. When British tv is good, it's very very good!

I think if given a chance this would have been okay but the American version was great I still love it. I own all 8 seasons on dvd sadly Netflix the butts took it off for some reason 🙄

This feels so off. I DON'T LIKE IT. It's like I went back in time and affected the future and this is the weird "not as good as the original" that 70's show that was created.

Surely it would have looked better when broadcast. I think the poor quality is due to this being a home recording from a VHS Recording made by someone at home. I wish a streaming service would have a laugh and release it in whole so we could see all 13 episodes at broadcast quality
The look of it is far from the central problem. Never liked the original either, but this is very poor in terms of recreating the UK 70s.
I liked this version. It was a breath of fresh air. The British accents were the element that made it different. Like That 70's Show; a parallel universe.

For me that's the problem, the people in this feel real. While the American one never feels real but is hightened. Therefore they should have done more editing of the story's to suit the direction they were giving the characters.
So Fez is like swedish or something in this one. Awesome..

There's a few small jokes they added in that I'm not certain were in the original that got a laugh from me, still tho, this shit is like watching a parallel dimension where no one has any clue how to act

Not as well-acted as the American version, a lot of awkward moments, 95% verbatim and just the overall feeling that it's nothing more than a cheap rip-off. I'm glad this show didn't go 8 seasons like the original.
8 seasons!! If this lasted for an entire season I would have sued the entire cast and crew of this super horrible thing.

Well in this version, Fez looks more foxy than Kelso, kelso dress more rockin lookin than hyde, and hyde talkin random things and dress "pop out" more than Fez

This is a cold, stale version of that 70s show. With weaker characters. Maybe you have to be peaking for it to be funny, like Frasier.
This also sounds like a laugh track was added opposed to being filmed in front of a live audience, which could explain the lack of energy throughout this series.

You have to commend how great the writing was from the original show that it's still as funny with UK actors saying the same jokes. It universally transcends all cultures and languages no matter what setting it's put in. That '70s Show will always be one of the greatest sitcoms ever. Love it!

This was an ok show, but it didn't quite work - sort of the opposite of most English sitcoms that go to the U.S.
British sitcoms.
The perfect comparison between the two is the theme songs. This one’s singing is so awkward, where in the original they look like they’re genuinely having a good time.

I had no idea there was a british version. it really has a different feel, they play it too serious. Oh wow ,Lucy punch plays Eric's sister ! She had a small role in 2011 movie Take me home tonight with Topher Grace ( OG eric).

The guy who plays the British version of Fez sounds like he’s Dutch. My cousins are Dutch and he sounds just like them, and it’s the exact same as that 70’s show both are great tho! I seen all the episodes !

The part where the pharmacist tells Bob that Donna is on the pill is totally off. Eric was supposed to bug out and crash into the counter, then run away. This version is too slow!

Having vaguely watched the original and nothing really to compare it this to it aint so bad. It also really looks like an old british sitcom wish it had the wit.

I really don't understand why people always remake films from UK to USA version (or the other way round). Aren't those both in English?? Way can't just keep them in the original version nicely?!!!! The remade versions always break my heart...
Dontbe On9 in America any time a British show comes on TV we run to the TV as fast as possible to change the channel. The accent is so jarring, weird and annoying to the ears and ruins any dramatic effect of the acting.
There's American English, and there's British English, each with their own phrasing and slang terms. While much of the original dialogue was kept from the original, some words & phrases were changed in this version to fit a British audience.
Dontbe On9 - We may both be English-speaking countries, but that doesn't mean that we don't have cultural differences, particularly when it comes to sayings, phrases and humour. American English is just older English that hasn't changed much since us British were there in the colonial times, whereas the English language that we speak here in the United Kingdom has changed and evolved so much even in the last 100 years. It's a lot more slang-based with variations depending on which part of Britain you're from than the English language in the US, which is a lot more stagnant. Also, American humour is a lot more direct and obvious, whereas us British have a more subtle sense of humour that's dry and ironic. US humour just doesn't contain irony, so if a comedy from over here gets sold to the US and shown on television over there, the deadpan humour we have would go over the heads of the American audience. And likewise if a US comedy with the very in-your-face homour that the Americans do so well got sold and shown on television over here. So in order for that to be avoided, comedies get remade in both our countries - although it's to a greater extent in the US with our comedies. So it should never be assumed that just because we're both Anglophone nations that we're the same because we're not!

Having watched a few of these to be honest we the fans of that 70 show really cannot compare the two. The kids in this series did not stand a chance. And as far as I'm concerned the only good actors in This production is the man that plays Red Forman and the girls that play Donna and Jackie. I Having lived in the 70s can relate to that show and it's just not there for the remake

Something's just very off about this. These British actors just don't aren't good at working with the American source material. Normally I'm a big fan of britcoms and hate the American adaptations (office) but this is a rare case where the Brits butchered an American favorite.
This THE HUB is better than the other one....

You know why us americans do not like this remake? i do. But most do not. Because we are not used to decent humans beings(friends). The diff between this one and the original. The cast really seem like real friends lol. Unlike the funny making fun of each other us version.
