The only thing I remembered about different versions of The Godfather, was the theatrical and tv versions. And I don't mean modern tvs, I'm talking old crts, the film was originally filmed in 3:4 aspect ratio. So tv viewers were able to see more than the cropped theatrical version.
I feel you Zack. I read the book and then watched the first movie a few years ago in high school. Havent read or watched the 2nd ones or the 3rd movie. But what I got from the 1st book and movie was that its masterfully written. At the same time, I couldn't stand any of the characters. They were just all horrible people.
Hooray! Splatto returns! And thanks for some things I never considered--like Michaeld *isn't* a good Don; he may be a good CEO, but as an old-school dude you approached with your hat in your hand? Nope. Thanks!
All these years I've been wondering if I was crazy thinking the second wasn't half as good as the first. It just proves the unanimous view of critics can be wrong.
I was lucky that a cinema not too far from my house replayed the first one, which I never saw, so I could experience it in a theater for the very first time.
That reminds me, Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace returns to theaters in May for the 25th anniversary. Weird to think the prequel trilogy is now about as old as the original trilogy was when they premiered.
With the first Godfather film, Coppola was accused of glorifying the mafia. So with the second film he intentionally went into the dark underbelly of Michael with all his shadows and skeletons.
As a movie buff I think I am required by law to love these movies, but to be honest I appreciate them but don't like or love them per se. They're incredibly well-made, but the pacing for me is unbearable. So many scenes of men just sitting around, talking about business or plotting against the other families or whatever. A little of that goes a long way.
"Eff that guy." That's kind of the point. The first two movies (especially the first) shows how Michael is gradually corrupted by power. A good character analysis by "Just an Observation" about how Michael changes in the course of the first movie: th-cam.com/video/xMlVEBFUWqE/w-d-xo.html
Disney should purchase this IP and make Godfather 4, about a black lesbian who easily dispatches Michael Corleone and starts a new, diverse mafia. I mean mafiX.
I’ve enjoyed the first movie, but not to the same extent as others out there. The sequels were a bit more of a miss, in my opinion. The vast numbers of memes and parodies were priceless. Dom Deluise especially did a hilarious job, multiple times. “Bladerunner” and “Bladerunner 2049” have been a bit more impactful to me. The second movie was visually stunning, but was hurt by not showing the three pre-movies in order prior to watching the extended scenes within “Bladerunner 2049.”
It's funny you should do this right when I revisited the Godfather films. In my estimation, the first two are classics, while the third is trash. And no, it's not because of Sophia being incompetent at acting, that's actually the least of its problems -- even if she had been flawless, it would still be garbage-bags. She was just the most surface-level, obvious problem, thus became a lightning rod for criticism that was really directed at its more substantial dysfunctions under the surface. The plot was incoherent, the chopper scene was dumb and jarringly out-of-place, pacing was off, dissatisfying conclusion, and so on. Really, Godfather III could not be salvaged with or without Sophia, not without a complete overhaul and rewrite of the script.
The Godfather movies are kinda like Alan Moore, I mean you can talk shit about Rob Liefeld all day and nobody cares, but as soon as you say something bad about Alan Moore, people lose their shit. And I used to like Alan Moore, but he's over hyped, just like the Godfather movies.
So glad you did this. Not all of us are based comic-book dorks - some of us are just fans of your Gen-X flavoured movie takes.
I think you are not aware of how many times we come to the splatto in the hope of a new review. Thanks, Zack
According to Family Guy - "It insists upon itself Lois"
I have always loved the statement. I don't think it necessarily applies to The Godfather, but it rings true for many films.@@MrSTVR
😂
God damn dude, it’s been a long ass time
Andy Garcia. Total badass in that movie.
Likewise in The Untouchables. Total badass.
Andy Garcia is one of those actors where you ask, "WtF, how come he never got as big as George Clooney or one of those guys?"
Was wondering what to watch this weekend, guess may as well be this.

Zack is in his gangster movie phase! Quick! Tell him to watch Goodfellas and Casino!

Michael had a fractured cheekbone which didn't heal properly,.

I love the first movie so damn much.
Wtf I just watched this trilogy this past week and you upload a video haha
Ya boi!
I was lucky that a cinema not too far from my house replayed the first one, which I never saw, so I could experience it in a theater for the very first time.
I don't remember hearing numbers, but I definitely remember part 3 being widely panned, so I've never seen it.
Carlito's Way is a good one

Welcome back Splatto

Next week Zack makes a video on his financial channel.
Damn. I had to come to this channel to finally hear Zack cough. Now I know that he is all right.
Even though I don't care for The Godfather its great to have another film video.

Did you watch Blue Eye Samurai yet YBZ? It's solid
Nice, so we will get a video at least twice a year
The Godfather III script is terrible.

3 is god awful. Sofia ruined it.

The Godfather franchise, the most overrated movie franchise ever.
