You need to tighten the lever where it attaches to the column shifter tube. There's 2 bolts that fall out. Even with bad bushings it'll shift and get you home_______and sometimes a long time. Buy a shift tube kit with bushings add loctite blue to the lever bolts I've seen them last a long time. After the repair. Hope this helps someone. I love the old analog systems. It's amazing to my son.....trouble is, it's so simple.
I love that you did a vid on an OBS Ford truck. I have a '93 F-150 standard cab 2WD with the original 302 that has only 101k miles on it. It was originally a North Carolina car and so it has minimal rrrrrust.
Wow! As a guy who retired, and now because of family responsibility is working again, that truck would be a dream. Having to watch every penny, now. I think that truck is a dream ! I'm glad for you!!
I taught my 17-year old how to use the grease cone thing last week when he did his first RWD brake job on his square body. He was glad he didnt have to grease his palms.
It's a Ford! It'll be fine! My buck fifty has around 420,000 maybe more, I don't know because the speedometer has stopped working a few times! Thanks for a great vid!
@IansGarage Wild. I'll have to remember that if I ever travel across the pond. Here in the southwest, I've never seen it be anything but black for gasoline and green for Diesel.
That is such a great feeling when a sight unseen gamble pays off! I have only paid "scrap" value but only one really surprised me....and that one was a 1996 f-150 with the 300L6.
Good morning from Cape Cod ⛵ I had a 92 f250 with a 300 and a 5-speed. Had 374,000 mi. I got it from a true value hardware store that used it to deliver light equipment they had gotten it brand new and it was well taken care of without one speck of rust or a rattle. I drove it for 10 years, the speedo cable broke after I got it so I have no idea how many miles I put on it. The engine never made a sound and ran flawlessly the whole time. It's great that you found yourself a good one 👍✌️🇺🇲
Luke, you are just hardcore! I would've never tried to weld a brake drum back together. I am in awe! I still miss my Dad's '96 F150, but I console myself with my '94 Exploder, actually a 2-door Sport with the Mazda-built five speed, so pretty uncommon. Also meant I had to fab my own doglegs and boy did I misjudge how they flared out. But the rust is gone anyway. A pleasure as always. Best to you and yours.
I finally decided to look up the Alice In Chains song I've never heard that you use in all your videos and found out it's some band named Skorned. Holy crap the dude sounds just like Layne Staley!

The bed was completely rotted out. Haven't put very much money in it and it runs and drives. Found a new bed and now is just waiting for paint in the spring time. Feels good to save a old truck from death. Found out some history on it turns out it was a high school/ fair ground rig. Probably hardly drove on the main roads it's whole life. 👍

You'll have to rig something up for the OD off button. Those E4OD like to run in OD with the torque converter unlocked towing. Would be better to lock out overdrive so it'll do 3rd with lockup. Less heat and maybe it won't be like every other E4OD and blow the pump seal
I got a $300 Chevy c1500 15 years ago, same situation. One great uncle he used a Old Ford Model A 1937 called Cele Trac gas power for years!
Luke, fantastic score for low bucks. A work vehicle of that vintage that runs and drives is worth way more than $300! You'd be out more than $40,000 for a late model F250 and it would be a pile of junk! Complicated computer controlled cam timing that unpredictably scatters etc. etc. Ride in pride!
I had a 1986 Ford with the 3 in the tree Think it was the last year with the 3 speed on the column it had roughly the same miles and it was only used in my town for the hardware store for 24 years. It was very reliablet ruck but I had the same problem the rust eventually became to much after 6 years using it as a work truck for my roofing company. The engine still going strong in my uncles boat.
Hey Luke, I had to rewatch the beginning but I figured out where you got the f250. I live about 12 miles west of there. Unfortunately you are correct about Illinois drivers. They are nothing like they used to be. I blame Chicago.
I know the feeling, fella. i live in southern illinois and my horse broke down. i walked to a nearby house, wasn't gone 10 minutes. When i got back my horse was up on blocks with his shoes missing.! Illinois! what you gonna do!
I bought a truck in 2020 for $375, a 1992 F150 short bed with the 300 and an auto, that had been sideswiped by a garbage truck. I drove that truck for a couple years long distance Ofcourse with some cheap repairs. At the end of it the truck actually looked normal, as I had replaced much of the damaged metal.
Tennessee is a good place to live as long as you stay outside the city's. I've never needed help and not gotten it. My 89 F250 4wd threw a coil wire near dover tn. And before I could get the hood open 2 trucks stopped and blocked traffic. And offered tools and help. But I obviously didn't need tools for a coil wire. Fixed less than 5 minutes.

The aero nose trucks roll back to 300k @the 399,999k
Two great finds there! Great video! 🍻
Never seen a green gas pump nozzle. Man, I can only imagine how many guys put gas in their diesel burners....
BP has been doing that for as long as I remember! But I agree it's unusual here in the US.
Caught me off guard as well.
When I saw the green pump I had to double take because i thought he was pumping diesel for a sec into a gasser
@@GabrielFugman Yup, even back in the '90s when they entered the US market.
In the UK green is gas, black is diesel. Confused me when I moved to the US!
@IansGarage
Wild. I'll have to remember that if I ever travel across the pond.
Here in the southwest, I've never seen it be anything but black for gasoline and green for Diesel.
Great find Luke, I have a 94 F250 with the 351W, it has about 203k on it and runs great.
Another great video. You did the smart & safe thing by driving back roads, others wouldn't have.
Thank you, and right back at you 🙂
Can’t wait to see how things pan out with the new AC 👍🏻👊🏻
You know you're learning when you decide to test the parking brake, you do it INSIDE the building where you'll need to fix it...planning ahead! :)
I finally decided to look up the Alice In Chains song I've never heard that you use in all your videos and found out it's some band named Skorned. Holy crap the dude sounds just like Layne Staley!
Thank you, I've been walking around with a song in my head for years. It finally has been remembered! Alice in chains would. So good!
What's the name of the song?
@@poweredbyford87 Psychosis
23:05 I've always had luck using 4 small tent stakes, no purchase necessary.
Dude your house is gorgeous, we don't have that style of house here but it looks huge and has that really classic "American country house" vibe. I'm glad you've got to where you are in life!
@@BlueXonar 110 years old, weird to think someone was sitting in that house talking about the titanic sinking when it had actually happened.
Sure beats the single wide 1974 trailer my wife and I lived in for a very long time working and saving money 🙂
This video is very relatable. Bought a 82 s10 that was at the salvage yard within days of becoming a cube. I bought it for scrap. Didn't run and had rust similar to urs. 👍
I have a 95 F150 that is pretty much in the same shape . Looks just like yours. Always starts and runs (although poorly) but with 250'000 miles Im not complaining. I use it for hauling yard debris. Thanks for posting this video. Great channel, keep up the good work.
I immediately recognized that gas station! Illinois side of Burlington bridge at the end of the expressway. The bus was the dead giveaway. I love that body of ford truck. Learned to drive a manual trans in one with a straight 6.
Nice save, My dad had a 93 f150 I wanted so bad as a teenager lol
Keep up the content!! Love to know I’m not the only one with a combo wrench and brass hammer to break caliper bolts loose.. repacking front wheel bearings.. don’t think I’ve EVER seen it actually done in the field on line.. it’s always in a shop.. clean, and spotless..
Thank you for posting!
Thanks for taking us along for the ride. My family ran AC tractors always. Maybe not a popular as the red and green but they never really let us down. Go ORANGE!
Yes! Go Orange!
people give up on vehicles way to easy, but then again, cant blame them, most dont have the know how to tell when a car is worth saving or not.
Everyone i worked with was afraid of it - but I'm also dumb enough to do all my own work (I had to most all of my life), so things like this are much less scary to me then most
Another windsor saved. You understand true value in life and people Luke, and admire your ethic on things, skill and knowledge. Good job and well done!
@9:10 “Here’s a good straight stretch o’ road…” 400 miles of unwavering blacktop unfolds into the horizon.
Iowa is anything but exciting! 😂
15:15 your house is awesome. That’s a 10 million dollar spread
You increased the value of that truck about 20% with that new radio. Great job!
Definitely increased it's value to me at least - been a great truck, I'm nearing 4000 miles on it 🙂
@ThunderHead289 4k ? that does not surprise me coming from you. I think we were cut from the same cloth. My cherokee just hit 390k. And I drove my 71 bronco 2000 mile round trip on questionable brakes , front and rear drums, towing a truck bed trailer. Glad I'm still alive.
The screws under the column come loose in the shifter. Easy fix
Came looking to see if someone knew about the fix. My 95 Bronco and every E350 van has had the same problem. Need loctite on those bolts to keep them from backing out.
Awesome video Luke - I love the old trucks. Thanks again Bud !!
Another entertaining video.
I enjoy seeing the farm activities, you and your wife have a beautiful property.
I found you again, utube unsubscribed me for some reason, great to be back, nice old truck, ideal for your use . Good job
Looks like a good hay hauler, Luke.
Always enjoy your content Luke! Keep it up!
I've had one of those Lisle brand wheel bearing packing cones for years... I love it.
Like you typed in the video, waaaay better than slapping your palm 50 times, LOL
good video, nice hay and tractor hauler
Luke, brother, your house is BEATIFUL! Good for you my friend, you've definitely earned it. Please keep up the good work and the good vids coming in 🙂
You'll have to rig something up for the OD off button.
Owners of a shop died next to my work and the kids wanted to just junk everything that wasn’t shiny and luckily my boss was there to offer 300 and sold it to me same price. Still have it and still runs although being from Illinois it looks worse than this truck. Really cool you save that thing and kinda sad they were just going to scrap it for no reason then its a little rusty
Buddy I got to get to know more of the right people. I’ve been watching for a straight six and stick for my boy to start on. The typical marketplace listing is “overheats, needs a clutch, I took the front fenders and the steering column, no title, $1500.00.” Good find buddy FORD Forever.
Thanks for the video Luke. Always a treat.
I put that same radio in my Corvair. Surprisingly good!
Pretty darn good score on that ol truck for 300 bucks! And i had that same radio in my Jeep Grand Cherokee trail rig. I was very impressed with it for the price!
You are always showing it real man. Thanks 🇺🇸
I love being taken along on your adventures, it's fun to see what can be done without much money
Love your old Ferg tractor. I had a TO and it was great! Used it to brush hog all the time
Never seen a Radio with Speakers before, these 3w speakers are decent sounding!
I totally agree with you about good people in Iowa. My mom's family is from southwest Iowa (Shenandoah area) and I lived in northwest Iowa for several years in the early 2000s.
Pretty cool truck. One of my favorite Ford Bodystyles. 😊
Looks exactly like the one my cousin just bought and drove from the oil patch over 1,400 away to here. Was stilling running when left to drive the remaining 380 miles to his sister's wedding tomorrow. Then he'll have an 1,800 mile drive back to the patch. lol
Seeing you take that truck from the clutches of death and put it back to work when it clearly still works fine....thank you.
Nice purchase you can't expect much for $300 but with your knowledge you'll be able to save it for many years
Nice! Glad you made it back okay. I just reconditioned my 96 F150
One of my favorite cars I drove back in the ‘90s was a $300 ‘79 Dodge Aspen. Remember the newspaper classified ads “rusty but trusty”?
Excellent Video Thunderhead 289 (Luke) I will tell something interesting my one grandfather he use Farmall type Bulldozer for his Threshing machine to on farm till afford a farm tractor back in late 1945 year till 1960 to ! Also other grandfather used 1950 Cockshutt 40 gas Tractor for lots implements in machinery too and learned drive on in my younger childhood years too also his farm ! One great uncle he used a Old Ford Model A 1937 called Cele Trac gas power for years!
O the life you lead! WooWHOO! So many trucks and tractors with so little time.
Looks like the truck and the tractor have a better life than previously. Nice!
Apart from the "speed holes" it's very good!
My Grandmother's side of the family was originally from Iowa and I can attest to their friendly demeanor, helpfulness, and sense of community.
ALL GAS NO BRAKE on this recent string of awesome videos.
all show no whoa
Tennessee is a good place to live as long as you stay outside the city's. I've never needed help and not gotten it. My 89 F250 4wd threw a coil wire near dover tn. And before I could get the hood open 2 trucks stopped and blocked traffic. And offered tools and help. But I obviously didn't need tools for a coil wire. Fixed less than 5 minutes.
Love the TRUCK ! FIX the Shifter {not hard [broken tube] remove trim, drop the steering column, then you see it }. Good LUCK Luke....
