One thing to note is that when the guy was talking about prot 4 netherite I would assume he also meant sharpness 5 sword and axe, where in that case the DPS difference is even greater than just like 1 or 2 damage it because a pretty huge difference in DPS. This doesn't change the fact that in MOST scenarios the axe is just better though, but then again things shift when you're not going against 9 year olds because extra DPS doesn't matter when your opponents clearly cannot aim.

At a lower level axes can be effective when you're fighting players that don't know how to use a sword, but against higher level players using an axe in most cases is just a death wish (unless we're specifically talking the axe / dream kit, but even then some of the top players are sword mains in that kit). @@monkeman5494 I don’t have to come up with a “unique” or better point if it’s just the truth. Even in the axe kit there is this weird hotbar layout some people that are pretty good and bored do to troll where they replace their shield with a crossbow in their offhand, and everyone knows the counter to that is to just sword them. Including the guy who started that trend
I am one of the few that actually agree with u on this, i only use sword when i have a health disadvantage or when they aren't expecting it but again it depends on playstyle really good video :) ty for all the likes lmao
To be honest, I would say that both axe and sword have their advantages and disadvantages some people prefer a sword while others prefer axe. There is no way to say that one is better because they are very difficult to compare.
The sword is just much better, they have a lot more dps, axes are easy to dodge and anything that reduces mobility like lava or cobwebs counters the axe. axes are only better in early game
I will say it also depends on how many hits you need to kill the player. For example, if a person has full iron and u have a chance to pick a diamond axe or a sword, axes perform overwhelming good even without a shield just because of the fact that u only need 3 crits or 2 and a half to finish the job whereas in the same scenario if they had full prot 4 diamond I would rather go with swords as even if the opponent gets a lot of crits on me I have a better chance to get him to the same health by combos as we need to get through way more hits. But if the same happens in the axe kit, axes are not worse in any way as if u get at least 2 or 3 crits there no way to heal and u have to get an insane combo with 4 hearts. So, there's no point of saying that axes are only good with shields because that is just simply not true. Edit : I absolutely agree with you great work!!
The best way to pvp is using axes to break shields and catch runners, while swords do more dps and are overall better at killing players. The best thing you can do is stab people with the sword as fast as possible(after cooldown) and when they block switch to axe and break their shield, then just keep stabbing
Personally i think axes are better. I just run and when my axe is done cooling down i turn around and crit my opponent and run immediately.Even if my opponent hits me back with sword I still do more damage
Great video! I agree mostly, although I think sword would be more useful against newer players who can't strafe away from your hits. I would also say the same for UHC pvp, because usually the sword has sharpness on it oppossed to the axe, so when you get those crit combos it kills them really fast
Before anything, just know that I'm saying it for all 1.18 smp or multiplayer survival server since in your title it says "1.18 pvp" The reason why sword is better in netherite pvp is because usually they will have pots. If you use strength 2 pots with a Sharp 5 netherite sword it will do 17 damage since strength 2 gives +6 damage. While a netherite axe does 19 damage. So even though the axe still does 2 damage more, the attack speed has a huge difference whilst pvping. Also, if they also have speed 2 pots you can't really back up and run while your axe cooldown is down. The axe is still useful in most situations like shield disabling, but in my OPINION the sword is better.
You have to be able to use a sword. Too many people just only try to crit with a sword and it makes it impossible to combo people. Also, when an axe pvper misses a hit it can be fatal, but not for a sword pvper
Personally i think axes are better. I just run and when my axe is done cooling down i turn around and crit my opponent and run immediately.Even if my opponent hits me back with sword I still do more damage
@The Sponge Enthusiast unless I’m in a pvp server like pvp legacy, I won’t really try the hit and run strat but in something like an smp I wanna live and I’d do anything to win the fight.
Capade, I have just recently started watching your videos and am liking them a lot. One thing I don’t get, however, is when you said that no one was talking about SMPs. 95% of the Minecraft player base will never touch Minecraft pvp servers and will instead stick to single player. Then the majority of the remaining players play almost exclusively on SMPs. This is why people are saying that swords are better than axes. You spend more time maxed out on an SMP than you do unmaxed. Think, when but during a small window of progression are you goi g to be fighting an opponent with unenchanted diamond armor and tools. Swords have much higher dps at max and with pots like strength and speed 2 you can shred axe players because it becomes much harder for them to land crits due to speed. The knock back trick with the axe to keep out of sword range won’t work due to netherite’s inconsistent knockback. When an axe player tries to land a crit, a decent sword player has simply clicked twice and delt 34 damage as opposed to the 28.5 damage from the crit. It is also much easier to consistently land crits with swords due to the cool down being the same as the rate at which you fall. I just wanted to say this to you because I wanted any new players just starting out that if you have to pick 1 or the other, pick a sword.
Both weapons are really good, axes serve as a better weapon early game and swords are the preferred weapon late game, in the end it really just comes down to skill and preference
3:43 Hey do you know how sword combos work? I think it is pretty well known that to combo usually swords are better in any version. Why is that? That's because when you hit someone they obviously take knockback and a player with backwards momentum has less reach than a player with forward momentum, so combined with the speed at you can attack this makes swords kinda better. (for combos ig...) Im not saying you are wrong, but i think that dude meant that if a player that uses a sword hits a player that uses an axe he'll be able to hit again while sprinting to do the same thing again, but a player using an axe does that he's not gonna be able to hit before the other player is gonna loose all their backwards momentum.
Axe is only necessary against shield you can do like break apponet shield Quickly switch to sword and get crazy combos but I prefer use axe against shield and us sword when he is not using his shield.
What people are trying too say when they say that experienced players are better with swords they mean that if 2 bad players fight, axe will be superior But if to skilled players fight, the sword will be superior. When you know how to use the sword well the sword will be better that an axe in the hands of someone that is skilled with an axe. The sword does more damage faster. More damage per second. If you hit imedeatly after the damage bar is full. So if you can get a hit as soon as the bar is full the sword is better that axe.
I agree with most of your points just one question, would fire aspect 2 possibly change things. I ask this because axes cannot use fire aspect. Honestly I don’t know that’s why I am asking.
6:03 him starving and you not makes sense because every time you hit an enemy your saturation goes down. Since swords have less cooldown and less damage, swords need to hit more than axe. Axe has a higher cooldown so it needs to hit less which means less saturation decrease.
With netherite armor, high-damage attacks do less damage than usual, so the sword does slightly less damage with more attack speed. Also, when you fought the person with a sword, it was actually a really close fight until they started starving. You probably only won because you were better at PVP. I found it a bit ironic when you mocked that person for starving while you were at one hunger bar, and then you stayed away from them for the rest of the match-almost as if you didn't want to fight so that you didn't lose. of course, you could have just been doing that for content or because it seemed funny that they were starving because you forgot food, but either way, that duel never had a fair end, at least in my opinion.
@@KennethGTWI wasn't the one who starved (unless you didn't mean me lol). My username is QuantumTwig, not MildIdiot. I just didn't like how Capade made fun of someone for starving when he was the one who forgot to add food to the kit. I still think that swords are better than axes in most cases because of the ability to combo, which a good sword player could do even with Capade's technique to avoid combos, and an example of someone starving wasn't a very convincing argument. (fyi my pronouns are they/them, not he/him.)
Swords is better than axes A netherite Sword do 8 damge with 0.625 second cooldawn And A netherite axe do 10 damge With 1 second cooldawn It is not about who do most damge per hit it is about who do the most damge per specific time So if we take 20 seconds fight with all the hits perfect We can see that The Sword do 32 hits × 8 damge per hit = 256 damge And The axe do 20 hits × 10 damge per hit = 200 damge But if the fight took a short time or shields entered the chat Axe will win
axes do more damage but swords personally are easier for me to use, I only use an axe when I have time to get a crit in for the extra damage, and swords also have fire aspect which would be rly useful if they dont have pots. I rest my case
Its based on your gear and who you are playing against, I know what they mean by "with netherite armor and totems" because I put thought into it, netherite armor decreases kb and thats pretty much what your strategy is based on. Hitting, running away, and hitting again. Plus, the shield break of axes are really useful on 1 to 1 combat because you can deal damage and prevent them from damaging you, but in most cases swords are better for the combo, the higher dps, and the more spread out damage so you deal more damage if your hit gets blocked. tldr: 1. strat is based on kb, netherite reduces kb 2. totems > shields, 1 less use for axes 3. dps 4. spread out damage so when its blocked you get more damage extra notes: if you have a very hilly terrain that makes your strat completely useless because you need to get out of range you were fighting people who were much worse than you, you can't prove a point when everybody knows its rigged from the start you can strafe away from axe crits, making it much harder to beat you
you forgot to mention Strength potion, Strength II always increases 6 damage each hit and because sword hits more so sword benefits from Strength more your point is basically "sword is better lategame bc of its dps" but the truth is, with full prot 4 netherite armor; normal weapons just doesn't work and the things become like, who have more spare gears and more gapples win.
I had found a way to combo with the axe, like if the opponent is bad, you crit them, they will go a little up in the air, then you crit them , and repeat
To put it simply, axes and swords are useful in different situations, axes can disable shields and have more burst, as in more on hit damage, but swords have an overall higher dps, its pointless to only use or only say that one is good, as they have completely different uses.
If you’re talking specifically about axe PvP, the axe is definitely strong, but once you disable someone’s shield it is far from optimal to keep using the axe. The sword has way higher dps and a high skilled player is going to be able to crit you if you run away or combo you if try to fight them with the axe. The axe’s main use in the kit now is to disable shields, punish shield disables, or backstabs which have kind of fallen out of the meta recently. After that it’s just more optimal to use the sword. The only way I can see axe really being better than sword at all is if you have a really high ping. And that’s just for axe, for any other kit the sword is so far superior the axe usually isn’t even included in the kit. Maybe I’ll believe you if someone heavily uses the axe and gets insane results but that’s just not really a thing anymore. I could go into more detail about other kits but I think I’ve explained my viewpoint well enough already.
@@cshell3424 On paper that sounds like it would work, but in practice against a good player it won’t. Plus you’d have to be really dedicated to running every hit to get any success. There is a reason the the sword is used more at the highest level in literally every kit.
in full netherite, the combination of shield and sword are better than just using axe. Netherite reduces kb thus enabling a sword user to get close enough to continuesly hit you (unless their aim is bad ofcourse). Without netherite armor axe players can achieve hit trading, securing them a victory, as axes do more damages per hit. (also you debunking that axes are better than swords when wearing netherite by 1v1ing a random guy wasn't really evidence). But as I said if there is no knockback resistance I agree with you.
3:50 he said that if swords have more reach when you combo, bc more momentum=more reach so that means when someone is comboing you(also they need to do it good) you cant hit them
As a sword mainer I can tell you that the ax is superior in the early game and anything that reduces mobility like lava or cobwebs counteracts speedrunners that hit and run when their shield is off, also the ax is easy to dodge and in spaces closed like caves or forest the sword wins by dps. btw, in pvplegacy there is no level, most people don't play pvp 1.16 (I have 90% win rate and I'm not good), killing random people in legacy even I can prove that a potato is better than a sword, I challenge you to try to prove that the ax is better on a server where there is a level, spoiler: they will destroy you
Spoiler: You will not succeed You will never I will doom you I will curse you to succumb to the deadly disease Axe is always better. Join the cult now or be cursed Choose an option now
Personally i think axes are better. I just run and when my axe is done cooling down i turn around and crit my opponent and run immediately.Even if my opponent hits me back with sword I still do more damage
If you think about it, in real life axes would be better in medium and close range combat because of they’re ability to deal lethal damage anywhere they hit, of course there are specific swords that would win against any axe, even battle ones, like the long sword. Though in general in most cases in real life between same level experience fighters axe would come on top, considering variables like damage first person to succumb to the dealt damage and more. My opinion may not be based of science but it is based off of logic and probably JS simulations if I’m not too lazy to actually code them up.
1) You're fighting randoms on pvplegacy 2) Sword is more skilled 3) With swords you can: w-tap, s-tap, crit chain, left-right strafe, break, shuffle, zig-zag, wide zig-zag, reach, circle strafe, punish crit (and more but I'm just not good enough to know them lmao)
if you have good/maxed enchanted on your things sword is better bc the attack speed is 2x faster, but when you have like, unechanted gear axes are better
swords are better if the sword player is better, axe is better if the axe player is better, no real way to say which weapon is truly the best but sword is more fun so case closed!
Ok who likes making essays? Only me? Ok…. So first of all nobody cares about axes in SMP’s he is talking about combat in general not in smp also axes are just more useful since it does more damage can disable shields yall might be sayin “oh but it has a slower atk. Speed so it has less dps” wel there is a strat called “running away” so ye if u died from trying this strat…. GIT GUD Second of all it doesnt matter what weapon you use u just have to be good with your weapon of choice u could go up against a person with a diamond sword and u have a stone axe u can still dap him up Thirdly pvp is more than just weapon dps there is more stuff to account for like movement and *CONFUSION* strats also dont forget about intimidation tactics like the fake hp. advantage there is two kinds of fake hp advantage being agro when low tricking the opponent into thinking you have higher hp and vice versa, and bow aim and stuff u cant just aim and it will hit the arrows are affected by gravity so you have to aim higher depending on theyre distance pvp does not only consist of melee pvp so keep in mind u could be a god with the bow and beat an axe player i hope you see this
depends on the situation. early game axes are overwhelmingly better and in late-game swords are better but axes are still useful, end game swords are a lot better but axes will always be a necessity as long as they disable shields. there's a reason there is no axe in crystal PVP
Swords are better, as 1 hit with a axe is 2 hits with a sword, if the sword is netherite it does 8 attack damage, 8+8= 16 meaning its 16 attack damage vs like 15 or 14 (i forgot the attack damage with the netherite axe) and even then you might be able to get a third hit in with the sword
i am more of an axe so i completely agree with you, kinda, if they are eating a gap they are very vulnerable to the sword because of dps and they can't move or use shield, other than that, they are pretty much useless
swords are better when speed pots are involved, because the bonus from speed pots only applies when moving forward. this makes it easier to combo, and harder to back away.
07:19 i belive what he or she meant is (Slow cooldown but more damage= axe) or (Fast cooldown but less damage= sword) Personal opinion A X E its usefull to cut trees and pvp!
also is the cooper kid talking about the snapshot testing because im PRETTY SURE THAT AN AXE HAS THE SAME AMOUNT OF REACH AS A SWORD in every version but combat snapshot
The whole problem with this video is it claims using one weapon is better than using another weapon when, if you use two weapons, you can change the tempo and style of the fight, which I have used to equalize a skill gap. I agree with a lot of what is said on both sides but everyone is getting really defensive and forgetting that you need to use both in tandem to be a complete player. I've had lots of success crit chaining, lots of success axe playing, context matters and you need them both. The duel linked in the end card is a great example of this. Anyone that can switch, even at lower skill, would clap either of them.
i havent mained 1.9 in 9 months so im not sure how much my experience actually matters here but if both players are very good but one knows how to use sword then they will obviously win, the dps is insane
In pocket edition and Bedrock edition swords are better than axe's but in Java axe's are better than swords that's why they are thinking swords is better than axe in PVP
Swords in the Combat Tests actually have longer reach than a Axe, but it's only half a block longer! That combined with the fact that it has higher dps is why people say that it's better Axes have 2.5 reach, Swords have 3 and Tridents have 3.5 reach
I play both forms of pvp. Anytime I play sword against sword, I mostly win. If I play sword vs axe, I mostly either win by 1 heart, or my internet dies (yes my internet is trash, it took me 10 minutes to type the word(s) “10 minutes”) axe vs sword, I usually lose, but barely. Axe vs axe, anything that can happen, has happened. Ultimately it depends on who read the art of war and understands it better. If both know it equally well, sword usually wins, but to be fair, my internet gives out right before a big clutch I was about to make. (My internet died 3 times while typing this)
Well, in general, if the sword is maxed out, then sword is better because they both do more damage due to sharpness, but the axe still only does 2 more. Also the sword could have fire aspect, which is pretty good without pots.
Assuming both players hit EVERY attack with the fastest timing, sword will win. But that almost never happens in skilled pvp, and the axe needing less hits to kill can definitely win them the fight. This type of thing happens with any weapons in any game where one attacks faster with less damage, and one attacks slower with more damage. Sword will have faster time to kill, but axe has less hits to kill, making them about equal in skilled hands in my opinion considering pvp isnt just a "no dodging or defense spam click dps competition). Even with full enchant netherite armor/weapons I believe the sword takes about 1 less second to kill at max dps, but the axe takes 2 less hits. Honestly the weapons are close enough that I would say its personal pref, youre never going to fight someone exactly equal to your skill level, so whoever is more comfortable with the weapon they chose is going to win
Axes are better if you get lots of knock back or battle slowly But swords do more damage if you attack fast Also people talk about netherite because it reduces knockback meaning you get more hits per second Which is why it's good early but later on sword is better
I mean the whole thing with showing us netherite pvp and being like ‘see sword combos are useless’ is true in this case because… sword combos don’t exist in netherite. Because you need KB for combos, and netherite has KB res, unless you wanna put knockback on the sword
sword is usualy my go to but when you are low i think axe+crossbow in offhand is an exelent ''back-away'' type weapon if you want to do a chunk of dammage to someone so they can back away so u can regen
Sword is better than axe because it has more damage per minute. In fact, A LOT more damage per minute. An iron sword deals 6 damage and a diamond axe 9. The sword reloads twice as fast as the axe, which means that if an axe take one second to reload and a sword .5 seconds, the axe will deal 9x60=540 DPM and the sword 6x120=720, or 180 more DPM. This means that the sword is better. It also costs less materials and missing a hit won't really matter. Though axes do have their place in PvP because they can break shields and you can engage a fight with it, dealing a lot of damage on your first hit, putting your adversary at a disadvantage and in a defensive position.
Axe is better in mele but sword can be enchated with knockback which makes crystal eaiser, and crystals are so op that swords end up better because of the slight advantage in crystal.
Btw Sword is for Combo and Axe for Damage, here is Proof: If you are very skilled, and are able to Aim very good, you are able do more Damage, since the DPS is higher. If you are not a PvP God Axe is better tho
I am a top tier sword pvper and to a certain extent i agree with the sentiment. With the scenario presented I agree that it takes a lower amount of skill to win with axe in full diamond than it does with a sword. However if you take two top tier players the sword player will win more often. You can bait a punish crit and jump reset to start a massive crit chain against a defensive axe player. In general you can also play classic sword defense and get simple 1 hit wins and occasionally 2/3 hit uppercut catches as well. This is effective because defenive play is the meta for sword. In general when you are more knowledgeable of the options available in melee combat the sword becomes much better in the scenario presented. So to conclude if your not great at melee combat axe Is better, but if your great at melee combat the sword is likely better. Of course this is not taking into account 1 thing and that's ping. If the opponent is high ping I think the opponent takes the edge, however I don't consider High ping fair for 1v1s for numerous reasons(high ping being anything over 80 ping roughly.) Also I when you bring up netherite, swords are way better due to the lack of kb making crit chains way better. Simply escaping combos with netherite is much harder compared to diamond. This is fairly basic knowledge even at lower skill levels. Backing up from crit chains is simply not pheasible with netherite.
@@thefunnemonke796 you know the best na players aren't on the sword tier list like novi and emberz. Right now I'm rusty but im solid ht3. I still can win a good amount of my fights against alot of the t2s and their are very few t3s that can consistently beat me.

I know sword so much better than you, the skills you think that you need to improve on to be good I've essentially mastered already. The top of sword is so optimized so wildly focused on abusing jump reset momentum and crits, their simply is no room for spacing and combos. Its a hard thought for lower level player to process that no matter how good they are at spacing, aiming, and combos they can never be the best with just those skills. Hell tbh you can barley be ht3 with those skills, I've literally beat someone with trigger bot and velocity who could w tap great by abusing jump resets and crit approaches, the man literally was spacing better than any human could ever dream of and couldn't win. It's hard for me to know how you feel, just looking at your gameplay I'm not sure I was ever that bad at sword before switching I was already great at 1.8 and I figured out consistent w taps fast. But I'll say this when I made this comment I was one of the best active na sword players at that time.
axe is better with in diamond armor, yes. But in full netherite sword is better. (at least in 1.18.1, cuz 1.18.2 is gonna be different) Sword is better in full netherite because the only way that people are gonna fight is crit-spamming and if you are crit-spamming higher damege per minute wins. And even in diamond, as you said, a good sword pvper could easely beat an axe pvper. (also no one is gonna fight you if you hit and run away every time, but this doesn't really count as a way to say that swords are better) My conclusion is that swords are better in netherite and probably not as good as axes in diamond.
In any sort of an endgame fights an axe is pretty much useless. Except maybe…? Disabling shields? But nobody uses shields late/endgame. Also the sword reach guy is talking about in a combo with kb and inevitable server ping
I just realized, if you had asked this a year ago, it would have been axes but now that people know clownpierce clips exist it's a whole different story.
agree with you in evrything else, but the sword haves more reach, because if you sprint and hit someone you will get better range. you usually sprint when using a sword and making combos.
Basically when an axe player backs up and goes back to crit the player their reach is reduced and the sword player sprint hits (does more kb) the axe player, and either crit combo chain or get close to that axe player to abuse the cooldown of the axe Conclusion: Swords are better than axe, it should be common sense but i guess not between non pvpers.
I use the sword and axe about equally in every kit (unless one is really downgraded) and I seem to do pretty well. Also: I don't have or ever plan to use Twitter
so swords can just have more dps but axes deal more damage in one hit but they take longer reload time. axes can disable sheilds too. It would be best to carry both 2 weapons. if shield is diabled then sword is better than axe if the person using the shield knows how to aim, strafe, time clicks and sprint reset. Sprint reset might not work for netherrite but it works for other armour and s tap is op if you know how to use it. If you chasing someone use your axe to first hit more damage then change to sword. If you are in a trading hits just use sword because sword has more dps. For SMP part I think most people refer to SMP because what else would you play in 1.9+ to fight other people unless practice i guess. but then again for netherite just use crystals and anchors. if you know how to hold a combo and are good at strafing swords are better in early game if no shield.
uhm in pot pvp is way more likely to miss a shot, wich is less punishing with sword, and you have to add the fact that with sharp 5 on both, the difference becomes more insignificant, thats why you dont see axes in sword pvp

@@toxic_wind6984 what if the person with the sword just sprint hits dawg
Great video! I agree mostly, although I think sword would be more useful against newer players who can't strafe away from your hits. I would also say the same for UHC pvp, because usually the sword has sharpness on it oppossed to the axe, so when you get those crit combos it kills them really fast
Before anything, just know that I'm saying it for all 1.18 smp or multiplayer survival server since in your title it says "1.18 pvp"
The reason why sword is better in netherite pvp is because usually they will have pots. The axe is still useful in most situations like shield disabling, but in my OPINION the sword is better.
straight facts
@@JermCollins atleast someone understands
You have to be able to use a sword. Too many people just only try to crit with a sword and it makes it impossible to combo people. Also, when an axe pvper misses a hit it can be fatal, but not for a sword pvper

U kids don’t know anything about pvp do u 😂
Why soo long bruh
With the sword reach thing Minecraft has a weird code line the means that you have more reach if you are travelling forwards
Both weapons are really good, axes serve as a better weapon early game and swords are the preferred weapon late game, in the end it really just comes down to skill and preference

Well technically swords are good for no shield and combos but axe is like better to break the armour and do damage

Axe is only necessary against shield you can do like break apponet shield
Quickly switch to sword and get crazy combos but I prefer use axe against shield and us sword when he is not using his shield.
You can disable the shield then use the sword and if they are good they can combo u or crit spam u
Honestly I don’t know that’s why I am asking.
yeah it would. It wouldnt make swords better, but it might make them about equals (not including the shieldbreaking axes can do)
6:03 him starving and you not makes sense because every time you hit an enemy your saturation goes down.
He queued another fight with food and rolled them though
I think he is the guy who starved lmao
@@KennethGTWI wasn't the one who starved (unless you didn't mean me lol). My username is QuantumTwig, not MildIdiot. I just didn't like how Capade made fun of someone for starving when he was the one who forgot to add food to the kit. I still think that swords are better than axes in most cases because of the ability to combo, which a good sword player could do even with Capade's technique to avoid combos, and an example of someone starving wasn't a very convincing argument.
(fyi my pronouns are they/them, not he/him.)
Swords is better than axes
A netherite Sword do 8 damge with 0.625 second cooldawn
And
A netherite axe do 10 damge
With 1 second cooldawn
It is not about who do most damge per hit it is about who do the most damge per specific time
So if we take 20 seconds fight with all the hits perfect
We can see that
The Sword do
32 hits × 8 damge per hit
= 256 damge
And
The axe do
20 hits × 10 damge per hit
= 200 damge
But if the fight took a short time or shields entered the chat
Axe will win
axes do more damage but swords personally are easier for me to use, I only use an axe when I have time to get a crit in for the extra damage, and swords also have fire aspect which would be rly useful if they dont have pots. I rest my case
Its based on your gear and who you are playing against, I know what they mean by "with netherite armor and totems" because I put thought into it, netherite armor decreases kb and thats pretty much what your strategy is based on. Hitting, running away, and hitting again. Plus, the shield break of axes are really useful on 1 to 1 combat because you can deal damage and prevent them from damaging you, but in most cases swords are better for the combo, the higher dps, and the more spread out damage so you deal more damage if your hit gets blocked.
tldr:
1. strat is based on kb, netherite reduces kb
2. totems > shields, 1 less use for axes
3. dps
4. spread out damage so when its blocked you get more damage
extra notes:
if you have a very hilly terrain that makes your strat completely useless because you need to get out of range
you were fighting people who were much worse than you, you can't prove a point when everybody knows its rigged from the start
you can strafe away from axe crits, making it much harder to beat you
you forgot to mention Strength potion, Strength II always increases 6 damage each hit and because sword hits more so sword benefits from Strength more
your point is basically "sword is better lategame bc of its dps" but the truth is, with full prot 4 netherite armor; normal weapons just doesn't work and the things become like, who have more spare gears and more gapples win.
legends use axe techno dream and the almighty himslef CAPADE
I had found a way to combo with the axe, like if the opponent is bad, you crit them, they will go a little up in the air, then you crit them , and repeat
To put it simply, axes and swords are useful in different situations, axes can disable shields and have more burst, as in more on hit damage, but swords have an overall higher dps, its pointless to only use or only say that one is good, as they have completely different uses.
yes like swords are useful in survival to fight multiple mobs rather than kit pvp and axes are useful in kit pvp rather than survival to fight mobs
I could go into more detail about other kits but I think I’ve explained my viewpoint well enough already.
you can beat a sword with a axe without a shield. Its basically trade hits than run and repeat. If you do it right the axe wins, without shield.

Except when you don’t

1) You're fighting randoms on pvplegacy
2) Sword is more skilled
3) With swords you can: w-tap, s-tap, crit chain, left-right strafe, break, shuffle, zig-zag, wide zig-zag, reach, circle strafe, punish crit (and more but I'm just not good enough to know them lmao)

Speed so it has less dps” wel there is a strat called “running away” so ye if u died from trying this strat…. GIT GUD
Second of all it doesnt matter what weapon you use u just have to be good with your weapon of choice u could go up against a person with a diamond sword and u have a stone axe u can still dap him up
Thirdly pvp is more than just weapon dps there is more stuff to account for like movement and *CONFUSION* strats also dont forget about intimidation tactics like the fake hp. advantage there is two kinds of fake hp advantage being agro when low tricking the opponent into thinking you have higher hp and vice versa, and bow aim and stuff u cant just aim and it will hit the arrows are affected by gravity so you have to aim higher depending on theyre distance pvp does not only consist of melee pvp so keep in mind u could be a god with the bow and beat an axe player
i hope you see this

depends on the situation. early game axes are overwhelmingly better and in late-game swords are better but axes are still useful, end game swords are a lot better but axes will always be a necessity as long as they disable shields. there's a reason there is no axe in crystal PVP
@Bstd he didn't create a full on endgame kit, try using an axe in crystal PvP of even just a fully enchanted one with loads of totems.

It depends on if you use op or not so op kits because when you use kit that doesnt take 3 shots with an axe to kill than swords are mutch better
i am more of an axe so i completely agree with you, kinda, if they are eating a gap they are very vulnerable to the sword because of dps and they can't move or use shield, other than that, they are pretty much useless
I agree
swords are better when speed pots are involved, because the bonus from speed pots only applies when moving forward. this makes it easier to combo, and harder to back away.
07:19 i belive what he or she meant is (Slow cooldown but more damage= axe) or (Fast cooldown but less damage= sword)
Personal opinion A X E its usefull to cut trees and pvp!
also is the cooper kid talking about the snapshot testing because im PRETTY SURE THAT AN AXE HAS THE SAME AMOUNT OF REACH AS A SWORD in every version but combat snapshot

Swords in the Combat Tests actually have longer reach than a Axe, but it's only half a block longer! That combined with the fact that it has higher dps is why people say that it's better
Axes have 2.5 reach, Swords have 3 and Tridents have 3.5 reach
That is not why people say that swords are better
Combat tests for the win
I play both forms of pvp. Anytime I play sword against sword, I mostly win. If I play sword vs axe, I mostly either win by 1 heart, or my internet dies (yes my internet is trash, it took me 10 minutes to type the word(s) “10 minutes”) axe vs sword, I usually lose, but barely. Axe vs axe, anything that can happen, has happened.
Ultimately it depends on who read the art of war and understands it better. If both know it equally well, sword usually wins, but to be fair, my internet gives out right before a big clutch I was about to make. (My internet died 3 times while typing this)
it doesnt matter because crystals better than both
You are right, but you should know how to play with a sword in case you only have sword
As a crystal pvper, i think swords are better because of the knockback enchant
"wheres him comboing me"
Axes are better if you get lots of knock back or battle slowly
But swords do more damage if you attack fast
Also people talk about netherite because it reduces knockback meaning you get more hits per second
Which is why it's good early but later on sword is better

Beating legacy randoms isn't really proof, you could use sword only and clip axe only players and you will probably win
2 people arguring is sword or axe is better and then both pf them ask me and im too scared to tell them I am a crystal pvper
But you use a sword to hit crystal tho
Entirely depends on the kit and your skill

Btw Sword is for Combo and Axe for Damage, here is Proof:

Backing up from crit chains is simply not pheasible with netherite.

axe is better with in diamond armor, yes.
Basically when an axe player backs up and goes back to crit the player their reach is reduced and the sword player sprint hits (does more kb) the axe player, and either crit combo chain or get close to that axe player to abuse the cooldown of the axe
Conclusion: Swords are better than axe, it should be common sense but i guess not between non pvpers.
I use the sword and axe about equally in every kit (unless one is really downgraded) and I seem to do pretty well.
Also: I don't have or ever plan to use Twitter
I loved the random equals three reference.
so swords can just have more dps but axes deal more damage in one hit but they take longer reload time. axes can disable sheilds too. For SMP part I think most people refer to SMP because what else would you play in 1.9+ to fight other people unless practice i guess. but then again for netherite just use crystals and anchors. if you know how to hold a combo and are good at strafing swords are better in early game if no shield.
the thing is most good pvpers like clownpierce rarely use axes but like you says depends on the player
uhm in pot pvp is way more likely to miss a shot, wich is less punishing with sword, and you have to add the fact that with sharp 5 on both, the difference becomes more insignificant, thats why you dont see axes in sword pvp
What’s stopping someone from pulling out a shield on the smp and making swords useless
Swords are better if you are doing crystal pvp
Yes, cause usually you won’t use shields. Crystals forever
