    This brings back good childhood memories! It was a very fun game & was extremely challenging. Time runs out and obstacles get faster and faster! What's most frustrating is looking down at the little slow moving dot running away while time elapses.

    • @madmax2069
      @madmax2069 5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      because Atari was pretty restrictive, as Activision gave their developers enough time to polish their games, and allowed the developers to use larger roms for their games. Activision was made up of former Atari game devs that got fed up with Atari. so they blew Atari away with making quality games,

    Activision programmers were so clever. Their version of a climbing gaming game aka Donkey Kong but a cop instead of a plumber or carpenter, escalators and elevators instead of ladders. Jumping balls and shopping carts instead of barrels. Always wished they had tackled a maze game aka Pacman and see what they would have come up with.

    Strange how at 3:00 & 6:15 when the crook enters the elevator screen as you are going from the 2nd to 3rd floor, the elevator is delayed until he exits. I always wondered as a kid if he would turn around or keep going toward the roof....and now I know.

    • @gatorhand
      @gatorhand 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's a workaround due to the hardware limitations of the 2600. The CPU directly drives the display, and it's really hard to draw 3 full-detailed objects on the same horizontal area at once, and impossible to do so if those objects can be at any location horizontally unless you make the objects flicker (which requires additional programming). They obviously chose to take the easy way out and simply make the elevator wait. IIRC there was something in the manual that provided an in-character reason why this was the case.

    • @luizfernandonoschang8298
      @luizfernandonoschang8298 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gatorhand interesting. I thought that it was made on purpose to make the gameplay more difficult, because if you have the correct timing you could catch the thief as soon you leave the elevator

I thought that I'm gonna try it, and I did. This game is great and it plays kind of like Donkey Kong but side-scrolling platforms. I had fun with playing it, and there are other versions of it which is neat though. It's hard but not too frustrating unfair hard like Donkey Kong Arcade.

    I downloaded the app "Activision Anthology" because it had faithful renditions of Activision games, but I must say it didn't quiiiiite work; most of the games are a little too hard to play with the available control styles; I think Apple needs to make a joystick or a mouse for the app

    That's pretty cool for an Atari game.

    Actually, there is an ending of sorts. Like most early Activision games, it'll stop when you reach one million points. At one million the score changes into a string of hats (like the ones representing your extra lives, but a different color) - pick up another item and the game stops right there!
