Afrobeat is actually specific to west Africa (i.e Nigeria) and it's part of Afro Pop. South African Afro-Pop is different and mostly influenced by soul music. East Africa has its own version of Afro-Pop. In other parts of Africa, you get Kwaito (South Africa), African Rumba and Kwasakwasa (Central Africa). African hip hop is also different from country to country.
Am Nigerian and love mafizikolo....they are a great musical duo. They did a collab with a Nigerian musician....can't recall the artist tho...maybe Davido?
I'm so happy about this!! I grew up in Senegal listening to many different genres and about your question about Reggaeton, it is actually very popular in Africa, especially with millenials and Gen Z. I also want to say that salsa is also big there. You'll definitely hear many salsa songs (from Celia Cruz, Jose Cande, for example) in weddings, parties, first communions, etc... Senegal has their own salsa (Senegalese Salsa), which is inspired by Afro-Carribean salsa. Much Love to you guys
I’m excited!!!!! From South Africa and I have been watching almost from the beginning 💖💖 And my Apple Music is jokes...I’ve got music from all over the world...French music, Korean music, Latino music, music from the UK and obviously African (mainly South African) music etc. I kinda agree with Waleska, I’ve sorted my music by mood though less so than genre... I have a “dancing in the kitchen” playlist. A “Driving at sunset” play. A “late night” playlist. I’ve also sorted my music by aesthetics
also fun fact, in many parts of Africa people still communicate with drums, like morse code, literally just beating drums to talk to your neighbors like sending a text or a telegram, it's a dying art but I love it.
Just so you guys know, i love how you take time to break down the video, the sound, the rhythm and all there is to music. Not many people do it like ya'll.
I just wanna say that you guys are so SO talented! Your voices, the music production and basically the whole vibe were A👏MA👏ZING👏!!! I'm really just waiting for an album at this point.
hello guys am a Kenyan and can i say i love your channel i listen to all your content and it was a blessing to hear your reaction to Sauti Sol.They are a group of talented people who are role models to other artists in Kenya. so basically they are 4 members but originally they were 3 friends who loved music went to high school together later met their forth member who is a guitarist members are Bien- guy with shaved head, savara and the guy whom you all loved his voice is Willis Chimano. last member is polycarp the guitarist. other songs to listen to include' Live and die in Africa' 'melanin' ' short and sweet' and 'susanna' if you would like in your private saranghaee and may channel grow and grow this year
I'm Nigerian, dance and rap is my thing and I really do appreciate that you reacted to this genre. I did suggest PSquare,Yemi Alade is also good and I coulda suggested another favourite of mine-Phyno(rap),but most of the time his songs are in the Igbo language and I've not checked if there's subs
You are right, Yemi Alade is the legendary, I call her the Nicki Minaje of Africa,P Square are great but too romantic for me,Phyno is doing fine in terms of hardcore rap, while you missed Zoro,he is a real outlaw.I mean I will strongly vote for Nigerian's in rap and music's cause I listen to every music and I can read and understand 7 languages and I listen to musics from all this place including every Latino music I still say Igbos are very tough rapper's.
I absolutely love this. I am new to your channel but I love every minute of this video so far. Afrobeat music is something I have come to adore in recent years even to the point of playing it while I clean, do my college assignments, or even just to dance around the house. Thank you so much for introducing me to other artists and songs as well. I am definitely going to go check them out later. I'm not sure if you guys even take request but I would love it if you could listen to Soca music next, if you haven't done so already. Artists like Kes, Machel Montano, Teddyson John, and Erphaan Alves are my absolute jam right now and will have me out of my seat dancing. Again thank you for the video. I love both of your reactions and perspective.
So I just stumbled on your channel & this reaction i’d say is one of the best I have seen on TH-cam. I’d love to answer a few of your questions to the best of my knowledge. So I’m a Nigerian & in Nigeria we have different genres of music and we living in the country can tell you what part of the country it comes from . Afro Music is originally a Nigerian invention but now it’s sub divided, has spread round the continent and different African Countries & musicans have their own take on it. So there’s Afro Music , that stands alone then there’s Afrobeats, Afrojuju, Afro Highlife , Afro Alte, Afro Hip Hop , Afro Pop, Afro Fusion , Afro dancemusic , Afro R n B, etc. You’d notice that the Afro is added to stand alone / popular genres to make new genres and some of these genres can only be found in Nigeria . Now , not every African country has Afro music and it’s better to check with the artiste than to lump everyone together . Also , it’s a common mistake to say ohh African music is Afro Music , even some countries next door to Nigeria like Benin Republic don’t have Afro Music in their music genres . You chose really amazing music to react to & that’s dope . Tayc is a Cameroonian/Camerounian/ French Cameroonian unless he states he is just French , lol coz you were trying to be so right about it , don’t sweat it . Also it’s Bad Boy Tims ft Olamide ( pronounced Ola- Me-Day) not the other way round . We do pronounce our Rs in Nigeria , lol the French and Arabic part of Africa do roll their Rs. I don’t know what the Portuguese & other parts of Africa do though . I’d love a part 2 reaction , this was really , really fun . Also , I do listen to a lot of Reggaeton , I think it’s amazing, uplifting and makes me dance . Actually I listen to any good music from any where in world , it just has to have good vibes like African music . Lol , I think you dance when you hear African music because you are hearing the heartbeat of the continent, you just have to move lol but honestly it’s about the instruments used & the love put in. Our musical Instruments which varies from tribes to tribes even within the same country , add the extra oomph to our songs .
Please checkout amapiano song , this is a genre from south Africa Starting with : amanikiniki by bontle Smith and kamo mphela - phone yam by Alpha Kat - Sbwl by busiswa - zelele by jassi Disciples - shasha Woza
Funny enough...today is a Friday and its my first time watching your video. First thing that stood out for me about you too is that you are very intelligent. You are genuinely willing to learn about other artists and their countries which is beautiful. Thank you so much. Love from South Africa 🇿🇦 ❤❤❤
very intelligent analysis, I have some Latin friends they only listen to Afrobeat and music from home, the first time they listened to Afrobeat they immediately hooked, normal Latin music has a fundamentally African base with drums and percussion.
Afrobeats is originally Nigerian, there's Ghanaian highlife, South Africa has many genres house etc. But most music in west Africa is now being grouped under afrobeats for some reason, there's a common rhythm and groove pattern in afrobeats (without even hearing any lyrics)
Finally!!! I’m glad you guys are doing this. Been following up your channel for a while now. Welcome to the addictive afrobeat, from a fellow afrobeat enthusiast^^
That Sauti Sol thing, it's just syncopation. A very common feature in African music that we tend to overlook. The Congolese lay it heavy in genres such as Mutwashi and Rhumba.
I'm so happy to see you looking at Kenyan music! Sauti Sol is one of our most popular bands, and they have always created excellence. I would love to see you react to Burna Boy's albums (African Giant, Twice as Tall, or Outside) and Sauti Sol's latest project Midnight Train. If you could even dive deeper into East African Afro-Pop or Amapiano, that would be so cool. There are a lot of distinct sounds with the music from different regions of the continent, and I am happy to see your channel highlighting a fragment of that! Thank you for this video, reacting with an open mind and genuinely allowing yourselves to enjoy the music, and explaining the technicalities of music and sound production!

To answer the question about folkloric music from our respective countries...In Cameroon, we have Mbole, Makossa, bikutsi, benskin, just to name a few. they are not mainstream I think because they are sung in native languages and are very context-specific. So even in Cameroon, there are niches for every local genre.
Ayyy this was epic! I'm glad you guys discovered new artists and you also taught me a bit and made me intrigued about Venezuelan's music... Your former president used to be a great ally of my country,so we are into Venezuelan culture a bit like dramas and music... We also have very unique music which I hope one day you'll be able to discover.... East Africa has its own version of Afro-Pop. In other parts of Africa, you get Kwaito (South Africa), African Rumba and Kwasakwasa (Central Africa). African hip hop is also different from country to country.
Afrobeat is Ghana's and Nigerians tapped into it but luckily for their numbers you've become the headliners
@@emmanuelasiedu9250 jealousy will give you heart attack.

South African music is heavily house influence.
afro beat and afro beats are 2 different genres, one has ties to funk music in the U.S
Yoh as a South African I'm glad you are checking out mafikizolo🎊

I'm a latina in L.A. and I'm always bumping afrobeats. I still dont know what soco means but I looooove afro beat
Don't sweat I'm Nigerian and I've lived hear all my life and even I don't know what soco means
afrobeat is specifically Nigerian kind of music
@@kaaahtea lol really I feel a lil better
Soco means dance I think. I'm Nigerian but not yoruba. I have a feeling soco maybe yoruba language.
Soco is vibe... And can change depending on context. It could mean dance, rejoice, etc .. Its jus vibe
From South Africa and I have been watching almost from the beginning 💖💖
And my Apple Music is jokes...I’ve got music from all over the world...French music, Korean music, Latino music, music from the UK and obviously African (mainly South African) music etc.
Which part of Africa to be precise? I've never seen that despite traveling in some of the most marginalized areas in Africa

I like the fact they don't show only Nigerian music to generalize afrobeats. Yes, I am Nigerian.
But still doesn't change the fact that the Nigerian songs are better. Periodt

hello guys am a Kenyan and can i say i love your channel i listen to all your content and it was a blessing to hear your reaction to Sauti Sol.They are a group of talented people who are role models to other artists in Kenya. so basically they are 4 members but originally they were 3 friends who loved music went to high school together later met their forth member who is a guitarist
members are Bien- guy with shaved head, savara and the guy whom you all loved his voice is Willis Chimano. last member is polycarp the guitarist. other songs to listen to include' Live and die in Africa' 'melanin' ' short and sweet' and 'susanna' if you would like in your private saranghaee and may channel grow and grow this year
Been low-key waiting for this! 🔥

Ugochi, you've said it all! Love from a Naija brother...
Afro songs can not be silenced 🇸🇴✊🏾

Funny enough...today is a Friday and its my first time watching your video. First thing that stood out for me about you too is that you are very intelligent. Me too loool!
Her voice is so cute🥺
very intelligent analysis, I have some Latin friends they only listen to Afrobeat and music from home, the first time they listened to Afrobeat they immediately hooked, normal Latin music has a fundamentally African base with drums and percussion.
Afrobeats is originally Nigerian, there's Ghanaian highlife, South Africa has many genres house etc. But most music in west Africa is now being grouped under afrobeats for some reason, there's a common rhythm and groove pattern in afrobeats (without even hearing any lyrics)
GOT MY HOODIE ON FOR THISS!!
Finally!!! I’m glad you guys are doing this. Been following up your channel for a while now.

That Sauti Sol thing, it's just syncopation. A very common feature in African music that we tend to overlook. The Congolese lay it heavy in genres such as Mutwashi and Rhumba.
Rhumba borrowed from cuba,Benga kenya was original.
Sauti sol thing tena?
I massively enjoyed that Sauti Sol and Mafikizolo review!

To answer the question about folkloric music from our respective countries...In Cameroon, we have Mbole, Makossa, bikutsi, benskin, just to name a few. they are not mainstream I think because they are sung in native languages and are very context-specific. So even in Cameroon, there are niches for every local genre.
West Africa, East Africa and South Africa have their own destictive sound, Check out Ugandan sound
Ayyy this was epic!

And reggaeton is popular here but not as much as Jamaican Dancehall and American Mainstream music.
We also have very unique music which I hope one day you'll be able to discover.... Efra seems to like cameroonian music, trust me Cameroon(a country that speaks both french and english),Ivory Coast and Congo have this musical genre that is crazy and makes everyone wants to dance....Love y'all 💜
