5:22 In the film The Seventh Seal, the game of chess acts as a metaphor for life; no matter how well the knight plays he cannot beat Death. His only option in the end is to disrupt the game, in the hope of distracting Death long enough for someone else to escape unnoticed. This implies that Jimmy also failed to escape the Slump, but by his brave and disruptive act of defiance empowered others to try. The video also refers to Jimmy becoming a man, so perhaps Jimmy is the man at 5:27 who has to watch all his hopes and loved ones float away, because now he is the only one unable to leave the Slump? In this way, is Jimmy not a modern Christ figure, sacrificing himself for the good of all mankind, until that time when he must ascend from this mortal plane, as depicted at 5:37?
In 5:27 i think that jimmy commits suicide because he waan't able to leave the slump. but i don't understand how did he come back in part 56. and why it's called part '56'?
I made a quick google search and i found that 56 in angel numbers means that there is a positive change coming. But it doesn't make sense since part 56 is the cycle which is the opposit of change
The story from my point of view: This takes place after "How to climb a tree". We start by following Tim(my) as he tries another fun thing that life has to offer, but like the time they tried to climb a tree, this story turned rather grim... Tim tried to ride a bike with his dad (who never knew about Kim's death) but was hit by a truck on the streets, after having to put down his own brother and getting severely paralised while trying to have a normal day Tim resorted to using drugs to fill his pain, this made him die of an overdose and leave only Jim(my) left. Jim was always just watching everything happen, being only part of the crowd while the important things happened, he practically didn't do anything to help Kim or Tim. Jim had enough of being just another regular person on the planet and decided to act, making the right choices in his life and having a family of his own, but Jim didn't get to live his happy life because the cycle repeated itself with his son being the one getting ran over by a truck. I believe that The Slump is just a methaphorical way to represent Jim, Kim and Tim's mind, the man with the balloon would represent Jim after having all his loved ones taken from him by destiny... *I guess this story really was rather grim, right?*
And yet all of their videos were burned into my head when I still had my innocence. Taking a turn down memory lane, I just realize all the more dark humor within them. The biggest ones being *’CASUALTY OF WAR’* ‘MOM KILL ME!’ ‘*O H N O* A three legged puppy is not a happy puppy’ ‘Write this down! Part Five: YOU ARE A MAN!! YOU WILL NOT BE LIKE TIM-‘
My interpretation of the story being portrayed here: Timmy was attempting the leave whatever hell they were trapped in with the help of the Narrator, but something stopped them, so the Narrator had to resort to using Jimmy to be free. He almost got away with it, but like Step 56 says, It's all just a cycle of torture.
its about how society works. you hop on your bicycle and work for years and years, you go through struggles, dead ends. eventually you finally retire and push your own children into the same hamster wheel. it also illustrates how unforgiving life is, you can reach the slump if you are not carefull.
(Tim)my just became addicted to crack because of the implied abuse he went through in "how to climb a tree" and also Kim's murder. Jimmy just was lucky enough to not fall to the same addiction. The narration is just a way to tell what happened to Tim and Jim after Kim's death. Tim became an addict and Jim became a father, probably the father of Billy.
I just realized... Whenever somebody gets hurt on screen, Ravens fly across the sky in the background. For example, At 0:23 Did anyone else notice what also flew across the screen when Kim was " Hurt "?
I just realized this is a clear metaphor for life. You start without knowing what to do, but with the help of your parents you start going forward. But as you go you go far from them and they might in fact abandon you, so you'll be on your own. Then you'll need to learn to go on with life without getting hurt and you'll meet strangers that might be nice or bad. And if you take a wrong turn, like Timmy, you'll end up with all the people that aren't accepted by society. Timmy lost his head after becoming a drug addict because the drugs made him lose his common sense and perception of reality.
I feel like the order of lore for this would be: How to climb a tree A funny And then this one Timmy is mentally unstable after killing his friend, Kim. Thus starting A funny. At the end, Timmy rides into the path of the truck, correlating to this one. Why do I think this? At the 1:26 mark of a funny it says “every forty seconds someone ends their life.” 2:06 is how long a funny is. Timmy eventually died after his unsuccessful attempt at suicide by a drug addiction. Jimmy sees this. After going through the slaughtering of his friend, (there was a reference to this in how to climb a tree) likely abuse from his father, and his last friend dying, Jim decides to get on his figurative bike and tries to be successful, gaining hope in himself to “be a man.” With his effort, he enters back into a normal life, having children. However, when teaching his child to bike, his kid is run over, thus leading Jimmy into a inevitable spiraling depression that would eventually lead him to climbing a tree, and, wishing for Timmy to put him out of his misery.

After watching this for the 5th time, I noticed that "Timmy" starts out with his hat on forwards, while "Jimmy" puts his hat on backwards. In the end, the person that looks like "Timmy/"Jimmy" has his hat on sideways. I see Timmy/Jimmy as two sides of the same person. Timmy goes through life without a supportive father and is rammed by the metaphorical truck into "The Slump". He turns into "Jimmy" to get himself out of the Slump. In the end, he is a combination of both Timmy and Jimmy, sending off another kid to go through the same trials as him before.
His works are extremely deep, especially this one. The whole bike - riding thing is basically a metaphor for life, and how only some can escape the deep cracks of addiction, depression and nihilism.
He basically works in extremely convoluted analogies. Obviously the video is a take on life, but even still the part with Jimmy gets me. He's not introducing a new character, it's the protagonist reinventing himself and taking agency (the bike) into his own hands and escaping a pit that he fell into. In the end, it doesn't matter that he fell off the bike, but he got back on and left the slump eventually.
The line “Screw luck! I’ll give you something better than luck, A BIKE!” Is more tense and emotional than anything I’ve seen out of a major motion picture in years
I like how the intro to Timmy’s Dad said “Better than Billy’s Dad” at 0:38 and at the end Jimmy pushes Billy only for him to get hit by a truck, symbolizing that Jimmy is Billy’s Dad and that he got Billy killed in 7 seconds and Timmy’s Dad died in 7 seconds.
That's not actually Jimmy pushing the random kid at the end, but I'll tell you who he is! He's nothing like Jimmy! He wears his hat slanted, and his name's Billy! He wasn't just *given* a bike, he earned a bike! I gave him limes and he made the sweetest god damn margaritas there ever were! Billy is not Jimmy! He didn't grow up to be some socialist, write this down! *BILLY IS NOT JIMMY!*
The fact that there are so many parts between 5 and 56 leads me to wonder just how many people died between those. We go from Timmy to Jimmy and Billy at the end. How many did it take?
@@mememachine3029 it is more probable that Timmy was one of the later ones and the counting had started at part 1 out of shame from past mistakes. It is a vicious cycle and as we saw billy died on his version of step 1. There is no set formula and it is more probable that there were at least 20. Probably closer to thirty. We have no clue as to how many. If we judge by the pile of bodies that jimmy climbs in step 5 then we can easily put it to over 1000. These are just a few of the external factors that you have to consider if you want an accurate estimation
Every time i watch one of these videos its crazy high quality and insanely good writing surprises the hell out of me. I tried to find the slump bit online, but its totally original, like damnnn
I think this can resemble Tim Trying to start life, his dad helped him get started, but he died afterwards, just like most parents do. And then afterwards, it shows different people going through his life. Then, it shows him exploring different things, but he still continues on with life. Afterwards, he hits an end, he went and got into drugs, aka, the slump. That's the dark end of his life, getting into drugs, surrounded by people who also do drugs. He lost his head, meaning he's no longer mentally stable. Then Jimmy, he's the healthy one, he avoids it all.
a mistake I believe Jimmy actually is Timmy. But the version of him who wants to stop drugs and leave the slump to accomplish his dreams, and to continue his life. But then, just when he was about to leave the slump, he couldn't and quit. That is why when he's about to suceed, there are statics, a man quitting during a chess game, and another man floating away like his dreams and loved ones. Then we arrive at the end of Jimmy aka Timmy, who's now Billy (which means he tried leaving the slump and seems to have suceeded this time), finishing his life and this time, helping his own child to start life... which ends quite quickly.
hey so in the beginning when the captions appear underneath Timmy's Dad it says "better than Billy's dad" so maybe Billy is a separate person altogether as opposed to being a more ideal version of Timmy idk tho
After dealing with the death of Kim and the fear or his dad breaking his legs, Tim tried to find a hobby in biking to make him forget the pain. Then, after his dad died, he turned to crack cocaine to give him a façade feeling of life, after he became so detached from his life.
Oh, I know he did to make me feel unnerved, and its why I love his stuff so much. I'm a horror fan and I love the tension, suspense and atmospheres he makes.
5:23 There something about how Claire de lune sounds here I can’t get over. I can’t find anything that captures it, maybe it’s my imagination or the context of the video? But it just feels different and perfect
I remember the first time I rode a bike without training wheels. My dad helped me pick it out at Walmart, and we went to the cemetery for me to learn. He pushed me off and I started peddling!! I turned to see his face, hoping to see him proud, but he died, as I should've expected... but he did what he wanted before he died, cause if me as much trauma as possible, and he knew that teaching me how to ride a bike was the right way to do it. He was a clever bastard
Is this Tipsy's way of saying he just got over a crack binge? Edit: This isn't the first time I've watched one of Tipsy's videos, guys. I know his stuff is dark and most of it is very likely an allegorical representation of his life/views.
It’s beautiful how Claire De Lune set the mood for the completion of the adventure and starts over for another boy, the moments as fleeting as the boy being run over by a truck
The amount of symbolism in this video is insane. The animation takes on an old-fashioned mood, late Cold War era. "These are the people with their heads full of shoes and their shoes full of brains... mostly communists." Timmy is then shown to have become addicted to crack. Communism and drugs are portrayed as evil things, part of The Slump. Makes sense because this is war on drugs and cold war era. The tape is essentially trying to mold these children, these soon-to-be-bike-riders, telling them what's right and what's wrong in a close-minded fashion. At the end of the tape we end up with Billy. Literally the only thing differentiating these scouts is the position of their caps, showing how alike these kids are and how there's little originality. Then Billy pushes the kid into an oncoming truck, restarting the cycle. This could be a representation of the never-ending ups and downs of depression or even fitness. It's great to see such meaning conveyed in animation, especially in 2017
stapmoshun here's a thought. What if Billy is the dad? Like it says "better than Billy's dad" so what if it's saying something like he's Billy and he's better than his father?
“ he’s nothing like Timmy, he wears his hat backwards and his name is jimmy, and jimmy isn’t a goddamn loser, he’ll leave this place! Good luck they say? SCREW LUCK! Because you are like me. Enjoy pain and suffering. The insane asylums can't fix. Why do you think the zodiac killer was called zodiac. He was probably an Aquarius or Scorpio. Are you?
this video was an actual deadass work of art. the slow yet sudden descent into madness and then the leap back to reality was so goddamn fun and i love the touch of no one ever showing their faces aside from the little breaks we take.
The Cycle: One generation of fathers passes its flaws on to its sons. Their problems are your problems from day one, until you die. Time goes on, you learn to live for a little while, always believing you are headed in another direction, away from the vices and vile parts of the generation before, believing that you are better. You live just long enough like this to realize that you have become the things you tried to rise above. Time goes on again, you try and you fail, again, and again, and again, in a viscous battle with both yourself and all who came before you. In the end it doesn’t matter if you win or lose, the ones who come after you will just make the same stupid mistakes again. All that matters is that you are there to show them how to get back on the bike.
Strange, are we sure Tipsy Duck made this? It's a little messed up in some very brief spots but otherwise it almost seems norm- 2:41 ....... Never mind.
Timmy is the boy who goes in and "loses his head" to drugs. The narrator transforms Timmy into Jimmy, as a metaphor for Timmy maturing and getting his shit straight. Jimmy wears his hat backwards, to help you recognise this. Jimmy then goes on to leave the slump, not giving in to drugs, and then has a child of his own - Billy, who we see at the end. This means that Timmy/Jimmy's dad, who is "Better than Billy's dad", is actually a joke about Timmy/Jimmy being Billy's dad.
I keep coming back to this video whenever I'm feeling overwhelmed by depression and obsessing over my failures. Idk exactly why, but it always helps ground me a bit. Something about the pure bizarreness of it is just so relaxing and comfortable. Maybe it's just nice to hear the perspective of someone else who seems to paint such a detailed picture of what I'm feeling, and have inspirational messages sewn in saying that it gets better, and it's never too late. Anyways, thanks Tipsy.
I feel like this video deserves an analytical video essay. It seems riding a bike is a metaphor for living life, and once you look at it through that lens, things become quite clear. The subtle nods to the Dr Seuss book, "oh, the places you'll go", are a nice touch, and add a layer of depth to this video.
Vanist Meira no it's a dark/funny comedy skit. He's doing this because why not. Have you seen his other video? th-cam.com/video/V-_O7nl0Ii0/w-d-xo.html
Yeah but it's also saying something about they 'cycle of life' In the beginning, the father dies after helping Timmy get on the right track of life, and dies after a short while, as most parents will in life. Timmy then navigates through the "streets of life" trying new things until he tries cocaine. It destroys his good, current life, hence why he got hit by a truck. When he is in the slums, he 'looses his head' because he's addicted to drugs. Jimmy getting out is the way it is because he needs to work really hard to get out of such a slum like situation. Then it ends with Jimmy pushing who is presumably his own son into the streets... Basically getting is son started on life. If there's any messages he's trying to speak I can only think of two at the moment. 1) People are getting addicted to drugs at a much younger age. Jimmy's son got hit by a truck almost instantly. Timmy didn't get hit till he actually did some navigation. 2) People are having kids sooner. Seen by Jimmy not dieing once his son moves 20 feet.
i just realised something about the line "follow me and billy and you'll be on the streets in no time" takes on a hole new meaning once you've watched the entire film and it's metaphors for drugs tipsy duck you've done it again
That moment when Narrator started encouraging Jimmy was inspiring

Timmy's dad was pretty grand, wouldn't you say?
This fucked me up
I Am The Method Nice catch
I Am The Method This is confusing.
2:58 "If you were from where I was from you be fucking dead"
basically a manifestation of this line
The fact that there are so many parts between 5 and 56 leads me to wonder just how many people died between those. We go from Timmy to Jimmy and Billy at the end. How many did it take?
Assuming that every 4 parts they change off as we saw here then 14 times (56=8×7)
I think the whole thing is about someone's life. So probably college and marriage and debt etc
The worst part is that my dad is better than Billy's
I can confirm this is exactly how I learned to ride a bike

I think this can resemble Tim Trying to start life, his dad helped him get started, but he died afterwards, just like most parents do. And then afterwards, it shows different people going through his life. Then, it shows him exploring different things, but he still continues on with life. Afterwards, he hits an end, he went and got into drugs, aka, the slump. That's the dark end of his life, getting into drugs, surrounded by people who also do drugs. He lost his head, meaning he's no longer mentally stable. Then Jimmy, he's the healthy one, he avoids it all.
The dad's legs and arms were sticking out so I thought it ment he was a dead-beat dad, thus turning into a divorce and leaving him after that push.
What about the man full of helium?
a mistake I believe Jimmy actually is Timmy.
Of course, we don't know what exactly happened to Jimmy; bu the end, he's been replaced with some guy called Billy.
hey so in the beginning when the captions appear underneath Timmy's Dad it says "better than Billy's dad" so maybe Billy is a separate person altogether as opposed to being a more ideal version of Timmy idk tho

How were you able to leave the slump? I heard it's a place where somebody comes in and doesn't come back.
It's great to see such meaning conveyed in animation, especially in 2017
this needs to be pined
stapmoshun Billy is the kid being pushed into the truck wile Jimmy is the dad of Billy with the backwards cap
I don't know... maybe you're overthinking it. Not that you're wrong.

Why not stop the cycle all together?

"Eat life, now with irony!"
So kim died in the first one, tim died in the second... when does jim die?
LavaDagger Who is Kim?
LavaDagger jimmy isn't alive. The narrorator calls the man billy and he wears his hat a bit to the left
Anguish the fuck
Pretty deep right? I probably missed a bit, but that's the general gist of the video.
If I've learned anything from these videos, it's that this will take a dark turn
