It's so strange to me that people can brutally kill someone for doing something they believe is wrong as though murder is not the worst sin and crime possible.
    I will never understand that.

Mate my uncle was a gardener at his house, he once said to me that when he was at his store room which was under the place where he was killed, he was about to go to sleep and he heard the screams of the two person. He played it off thinking that we’re getting busy, but the truth is that they were drunk, when they tried to run away from the pool and into the house, he killed them and discarded the knife away in my uncles trash place, his knife was laced with rubber for a better grip, he told my uncle that he was going to do it, but he never thought that the words he was speaking would become a reality💀

it is maybe easy to understand why people should believe something that is not true, and be willing to kill for it, because people are blinded by their own insecurities.

Brutally kill someone as opposed to softly killing people? Like denying people the necessities of life, to force them into destroying their own health.. for a political cause? *wear a mask; we’re all in this together* 🤔 I’ll tell you what society is engaged in right now it’s murder, softly. Government officials might be responsible for the ruling but the middle class delivers the rules brutally. *soft kills* is killing, nonetheless.

I'm white. but i'm always surprised by the colonialists. How do you go into somebody else's home and take the best view, the house, the voice, the government. I'll never understand it. I humble myself before going into any country. Maybe we are more evolved now to respect everybody but...I don't know. Just...strange

It was a different world so what we would not do today was not questioned in the past. Land grab and dictatorship from other empires (such as the Romans) was worse! Many places benefitted from the education and medical aid that was brought to their countries.

    • @syvadcram

White colonialism is just the tip of the iceberg if we look at history. Millions of white people themselves were enslaved and colonized by the Romans. But white people more than made up for their colonialism by introducing the native populations to western medicine, food technology, transport, information technology and by combating cannablism, homophobia, sexism, etc.

If all of us reacted like this years later about a 'now-perceived' act of coercion and unwanted attention, Lord help us all. Beautifully narrated and logically flowing of events; a true gem of documentary evidence. 💯💜💚💙

    • @andystevens3059
      @andystevens3059 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Wow really ... it's amazing how stupidly narrow-minded people can become ... yeah for sure Lord this individual needs your help ... what comes out your mouth applies to you first ... it's a bible principle ... treat others the way you want to be treated ... view others the way you want to be viewed ... free speech no worries there ... but to suggest Apete father seemed proud of his son actions ... "disturbed ramblings of a disturbed mind on your part" ... look I do apologize if it (seems like) I'm over reacting here ... we hope you don't find yourself in a similar situation ... I just cannot fathom a Christian father to be proud of his son ... hacking and beheading these two individuals to death ... even if Apetee father himself knew that his son seems to think it was justified ...
The fact that he (the father) mentioned Apetee asked for forgiveness to me ... clearly suggest otherwise ... that he understood his sons action cannot be justified without asking God for forgiveness ... no-doubt Apete is guilty of murder guilty of insanity... guilty of his own shame ... sexually groomed into a corner of his own making ... an eye for an eye ... the embarrassment of being cornered pinned down with an option of which he regretted ... that's what I believe in viewing this ... and decided to be the vengeful angel of death ... to protect himself and others ... don't want to be officially tagged as a homosexual ... wanting again to be a figure of influence to be known as a good man ... as his father was and grandfather ... good honest Christian men ... they where all victims of this tragedy ... Apete knew he did wrong ... but firmly believed he was guided by God in justifying it ... the question is did God forgive him ... despite the guilt despite the insanity ... he seems to believe so ... and I believe God accepted his request ... as an observation ... tell me how can God deny it ... if it's real repentance ... even though he believed his actions were justified ... mercy is above the law ...
We know those who are not accustomed with religious matters ... will see this as insanely delusional ... and it is ... but this is how God works ... in putting a stop too it ... in going any further where it concerns Apete personally ... for any Christian who is a follower of Christ!!!
Paul does teach our sins of the past are dealt with ... when repented of ... Apete family i'm sure where caught by surprise ... few years later a documentary ... we are told to let go of the past and press ahead as Christians forgetting the past ... mainly the emotional trauma of the experience ... and the best way is to forgive and ask for forgiveness it's bible instructions that helps us to move on to carry on ... God is unable to forgive those who cannot forgive themselves and others ... unwilling to overlook a justified position where there is potential for peace and harmony with everyone involved and ourselves of course ... Apete family I grantee you were very much reluctant to be part of the documentary at first ... in wanting to review the past again ... many Christian Polynesian families are like this regardless of how big the problem is ... why do you want to bring up the pass ... I'm sure they went ahead with it ... despite being caught of balance after allot of prayers ... however the documentary itself ... was a true gem as you said ... for it helped me specially as a Christian ... to better see this horrendously sad story from every angle possible ... Maranatha!!!

Apetee =(under Civil law) ... still falls under God's jurisdiction ... the Fiji Islands and most Pacific Islands are Christian nations part of the Commonwealth ...
... "The Court finds the Accused Apete Bauleka Vakananumi Kaisau (not guilty) of murder by reasons of insanity " = 1: 07min ... he got off easy ... to many minds (voices) in his head ... he knew what he was planning to do was wrong ...
... ... Obviously God cannot contradict His own words ... His own Laws ... nor does he condone it ... for this is where the part of "INSANITY COMES IN" ... Apete realized under the NT teaching of Christ (His blood his sacrifice covers ours sins) he will not be cleared or justified of (HIS ACTIONS) ... as a professed follower of Christ ...
... but under the OT Laws he could he believes = a blood sacrifice is required ... in his (own mind) Apete believed he did the right thing according to the voice of (god) ... with a little g ... which god ... Question: Apete did ask for forgiveness ... but did he (repent) ... why would he (repent) if he believed he did the right think ... Question: Do you think God will forgive him ... as we said (only if his repentance is real) ... did he repent ... why would he ... he made himself clear with everyone his position ... Maranatha!!! (guilty of murder as well) ... and for not following bible instructions when dealing with our sins ... very sad for both families ... somewhat appalling some negative comments towards his parents ... who have absolutely no bearing on the situation ... his mother was simply explaining how Apete viewed his position ... not obligated to show remorse or to reach out for forgiveness for the sake of their son ... a few years have passed by between the families I'm sure that was resolved back then ... they are not on trial ... he decided to take matters into his own hands that's the issue ... whose voice was guiding him ... your right he thought this would absolve him of his demons ... he no doubt asked God to forgive him for it ... I wonder if it achieved the goal Apete was looking for ...
Fijian natives despite being a more conservative community is no saint when it comes to promiscuity ... as with every country ... homosexuality is less tolerant but tolerated ... and obviously frowned upon ... as with most countries ... but here a few small islands in the Pacific ... it seems to me that Apete because of his guilt ... had decided to become the vengeful angel of death ... in keeping everything in check ... it would seem that way ... as I believe how he saw it ... he needed to protect himself ... he needed to protect others ... sadly a blood sacrifice that needed (not) to be made ... as he saw it ... for vengeance is mine saith the Lord!!!

@@jasminejones9937 absolutely. It was hinted at in not so subtle ways throughout the documentary. I came away thinking what is left unsaid in the documentary actually screamed loudest. The 'risque parties', which sounded more like orgies, and taking advantage of the poverty of the teenagers (Apete was practically a teen when he started hanging out with John and Greg, who came across as paedophiles) and grooming them in order to exploit them sexually in 'threesomes', then discarding them when they were no longer useful to them, as happened to Apete. His animosity was triggered when he saw John on TV, and all the pent-up hatred and shame he kept hidden surfaced like a tsunami and it overwhelmed him. The documentary was all the more remarkable because Owen, John's brother, participated in this narrative.

Apete was likely a closet homosexual who was able to indulge at the Scott house and later felt self hatred due to his religious upbringing.
Also, it is interesting to show a Mormon temple while discussing Methodists. Methodists have hated Mormons since the inception of Mormonism in the mid 1800’s. There were murders of Mormons by these Christians. And of course, Mormons murdered Methodists later on. Only religion has the capacity to make otherwise sensible people act in murderous ways and justify their killings in the name of God.

And his first wife. John made his own choices. We do not know what they were. We do not know how John and Greg treated Apete. We do not know how this affected Apete. It’s unfortunate he ever worked for them. He might have had to much to bear for a fragile mind. And believe me wherever you find a group of true Godly people you will find Satan will do all he can to destroy,,, including the memory of his grandfather. The ones involved in this documentary FORGAVE that is obvious. There is more to this story than you or I know. This story’s message is TO FORGIVE. If you forgive a little, you will have a little peace,If you FORGIVE totally and leave the matter with God you will find PEACE. If only more of us could learn to do that. People need to understand that the "Old Testament" portion of the Bible was superseded by the NEW TESTAMENT. The "New Testament" of the Bible is about the Life Of Christ.
The New Testament was a "game changer" from the previous portion of the Bible.
With the arrival of Christ: there were TWO highly important requirements for people to please God and live a Christ-like life.
The TWO MOST IMPORTANT LESSONS for people who wish to be Christians are:
    1. FOLLOW THE TEN COMMANDMENTS
    2. FOLLOW THE TEACHINGS OF CHRIST, AND THE EXAMPLES OF HIS LIFE.
Nowhere in the New Testament, The Ten Commandments, or The Teachings and Example of Christ is hate, violence, or murder condoned.
While it is true that there are many Denominations of Churches......NO TRUE CHRISTIAN IS RELIEVED OF THE OBLIGATION OF FOLLOWING THE TEN COMMANDMENTS....OR IGNORING THE TEACHINGS AND EXAMPLE OF CHRIST.
NO WRITINGS IN THE OLD TESTAMENT ARE AN EXCUSE TO GO AGAINST THE TWO MOST IMPORTANT TEACHINGS OF THE NEW TESTAMENT.
THE TEN COMMANDMENTS AND THE TEACHINGS OF CHRIST MUST BE FOLLOWED BY ALL CHRISTIANS.
For those who struggle with "belief systems": no matter who you are.....the Ten Commandments are excellent rules to live by......and the teachings of Christ provide excellent guidance to live a peaceful life. The New Testament is about LOVE and seeking PEACE for ALL.
    It is NEVER about HATE.

But Jesus never said that he came to supersede the old rules, but to enforce them, and just added on to them. Also, if God was perfect, why would he need to change his own rules. Look, I don't mind someone believing in god, but it's dishonest to think that these people aren't Christians just because they have different values and interpretations than you.

So why are both the New and Old Testaments still part of bibles even today then? Surely if the latter was 'superseded' all that hateful nonsense involving judgemental unrighteous killing and punishment for these 'sins' should have been omitted long ago. Move the goalposts all you want, Christianity can be as fundamentalist as any other religion.

This Preacher Man is truly enlightened and true to Higher Power Spirit. It is refreshing every time camera goes to hear his words. They are the words of understanding and real knowledge. He knows the murder was wrong and people are confused by it. Praise him for sharing his intelligence and education to this documentary. Very excellent and so very interesting documentary. Thank you for sharing this with us.
People don't have the right to murder others, but if the Upper Class Men with their togetherness, home solid, and constant in a relationship brought Apete(sp?) into this as another aspect of relationship that is wrong on so many levels. Especially because he would always be an outsider to that complete and living together relationship, but they were somehow involving him in it all. This would definitely cause angst, fear, shame, degradation, madness at times for a person hoping to be really included. They had everything, and to toy with someone who was the opposite of that is irresponsible and dangerous. Though Apete had a loving family, his country, and his culture it could look to him like those men messing with him in any way had cheated him and belittled him as if he was nothing compared to them. It was callous and disregarding of their status for two men in a solid loving relationship to behave in this manner. It's a shame Apete didn't seem to really have his faith in God to lean on because God won't be telling you to hack up two people if you are wronged. There is definite delusion or pure rage there.
Doesn't mean it needed to turn out the way it did, but it certainly meant that they were risking it could turn out the way it did if they involved Apete intimately in their relationship. They and all of us need to be aware that we must be smart enough to realize that. These men certainly had the ability to know better. All 3 of them did, because toying with men is dangerous and wrong, murder is the same. It's all a great tragedy for everyone involved, and all of us experiencing it also through this important film work of what happened, So sad.

How do you know the young women involved were impoverished? Please do not think that indigenous people are “ poor” by your own standards of what that word. means. As for glossing over that part of this story, as some viewer put it:, about “ illegitimate” children, that simp,y was not done with disrespect in my opinion.. The documentary was clearly faithful to the MAIN characters . To have lots of sub plots and extraneous characters, as it were, would make the tale .endless! I happen to be British born and raised.Living in the United States since I was a young adult. Like the characters in this documentary, my own history is knitted together between two nations. In my case, the United Kingdom and the United States. Both have my heart. Both nations are my home. If I were to write my biography, the cast of characters would include only those most central to my life story and development. But I would not have tine , or space, to include every far reaching individual I rubbed shoulders with, or those whom had a relationship with one of my ancestors. My humble opinion!

So sad. John and Greg liked this young and treated him well. They would never have imagined what Apete had in store for them when he returned. I think Apete had a psychotic break or schizporenia got him. Terrible terrible tragedy. But portrayed so beautifully on screen. Havnt watched it all yet, they are doing the funeral bit and Im feeling a bit teary eyed. Will carry on.
Yes I think they got the sentencing right. I hope he is never released.

It is quite an interesting phenomena. I would like to see what research has been done to explain this, if there is any. My opinion is it has to do with fear. They were convinced that the God was real, so even after their release, they still believe that and fear the God's wrath.

It's because the missionary work that brought-introduced-taught Christianity was done way before colonialism. It's not the colonialism that brought religion. How do I explain this? Take Nigeria for example and the history of religion. Before colonialism in the late 1800s the people in the south and east region had their traditional beliefs and religions and the Christian missionaries came way before colonialism to preach and do missionary work as well as trade. In the north of today's Nigeria, the people were already introduced to Islam. Christianity and Islam were already practiced in the regions before colonialism of those regions that was later amalgated and called Nigeria in 1914. After Nigeria gained her independence from the British colonialists we still have Christians and Muslims today. The British colonialists weren't Muslims. The colonialists practiced more of assimilation rulership and ruled through chiefs and local rulers. The colonialists rulership style was a bit different in the southern part but that's a lecture for another day. In the same southern-eastern parts it was quite easy to accept and adopt Christianity because the teaching wasn't any different from their own traditional religious beliefs, just a different name. For instance the story of creation was similar in the Igbo and Youruba traditional beliefs. The Adam and Eve was Obi and Nne. So not really any different. Anyway, colonialism is not associated with the religion practiced, so I hope you can understand why those that believe in God and Allah continued to do so after independence
