  • This is my How-to for installing passenger pegs on a Sportster Iron 1200. I read other youtubers who said they could do it without removing the pipes. I didn't like what I saw. For me, removing the pipes is no big deal. So here's THE VERSION WHERE YOU REMOVE THE EXHAUST.
It also includes my left turn when the bolts I needed were missing and/or the bolt holes were the wrong size/pitch and having to install helicoils.

There are many more... apparently people just hate removing pipes.
    What I bought:
Pegs (Ebay) - $41.60 with tax & free shipping
    Helicoil kit (AutoZone) - $27.36
    21/64" drill bit (NAPA) - $9.08

Note: after some more searching on Ebay, I see that some of these kits show compatibility with Sportsters through 2021, which is the year of my bike. Maybe these will provide the right sized bolts. My kit showed compatibility through 2020, and that may have been my problem. If you check the bolt holes that secure the brake reservoir to the bracket, and they don't fit, you'll need a helicoil kit to fit the 5/16"-18 bolts on your sportster.
    You'll also need a 21/64" drill bit.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I was contemplating ordering passenger pegs off Amazon or Ebay, but sort of glad I didn’t. I was lucky enough to find a guy selling some off his bike and they appear to be genuine HD. I haven’t installed them yet, but plan to do so in a few weeks when the weather turns. I hope I don’t run into the same issue regarding the brake res bolts, but if I do, I’ll know what I can do to get them on.

Not boring at all. Thank you for sharing your experience. I was going to buy an off brand but now I’m pretty sure I’ll just pick up the HD brand.
