Only the improved fingerprint sensor makes the upgrade worth it. I just traded in my P8P 256GB for the P9P 512GB. My phone was in brand new condition, never dropped, never scratched, so I got maximum value on my trade in. I ended up paying £200 out of pocket. The P8P would always have issues not recognizing my fingerprint. Camera in the P8P always struggled focusing on macro which P9P solved all these issues. I also love the "iPhone look" but I can't stand Apple compatibility restrictions. Bought the Nothing Phone 2 before P8P only for that reason but returned it when the touchscreen felt like it was some Chinese knockoff. P9P for the win. I didn't get the XL because the P8P felt a little too big in the first place. Shame for the slower charging but I'll suck it up in favour of the other pros.
That's a really good analysis and self-experience. I can see how this would be a great upgrade for you, especially with the fingerprint sensor and the better focusing cameras. I’ve been a Pixel user since the Pixel 7 and have always opted for the base model. When it was time to upgrade from my Pixel 8, I considered getting the Pixel 9 through a trade-in but decided to splurge on the Pixel 8 Pro instead. I managed to score a great deal on a brand new one at Best Buy, so it was a no-brainer. Given the cost of the Pixel 9 Pro or even a larger Pixel 9, the 8 Pro was the best value for me. I’m happy with my choice and will wait for substantial discounts on the Pixel 9 Pro XL before considering an upgrade.

Bottom-line it would cost me around $500 to upgrade from the 8 Pro 512GB to the 9 Pro 512GB .. I simply don't see the "added value" here. So I'm a pass.
You're not alone, my friend. This seems to be the case from year to year now. I think every three years is a good upgrade cycle. But don't tell my wife that. 🤣
Upgrading from the Pixel 7 Pro to the Pixel 8 Pro made me realize that the differences, while notable, do not justify the significant cost. With this experience in mind, I'm now even more convinced that upgrading from the Pixel 8 Pro to the Pixel 9 Pro is not worth it. There simply isn't anything compelling enough to make the leap.
I also upgraded from the P7P to the P8P and I clearly appreciated the improvements. Better display quality, also the 8 is usable under the sun, the older was mainly not! That's very important if you are a cyclist. The audio quality of the loudspeakers was also clearly better, much clearer mid range (yes... I'm a audiophile). The battery also last 15/20% longer. The heat is also lower. In the end I got more improvements than I thought! Greetings from Italy.
I totally agree with you. 9 pro or xl didn't really excited me. Also trade value for 8 pro 256GB is so low £390 including £200 offer google offering. Terrible.
Thank you for reporting that. In the US things are a little different, I didn't see the offer of the additional 200 for us in the US. I may have just missed it. This year for the most part most phones haven't made much of a difference because of their focus on AI instead of hardware. Thank you for watching and commenting I appreciate your support. 👍👍

I know right, that is very interesting how some people need the new device every year. Of course, the manufacturers pitch it that way as if nothing else can do what the new one does. @@GOTgoodoldtech-1964 I tend to get mine every 2-3 years. I swapped from the 21 ultra, went to the 7a, fell in love, now I'm getting the 9xl just because I can afford it for once and it'll be quite an update from the 7a
With the aggressive promotions they're doing right now, it definitely makes sense for me. Coming from an 8 pro, AT&T is doing the XL for free with a $35 trade-in value, plus they're doubling the storage for free, plus they're giving you pixel buds for free. Why in the world would you not do it?
The one complaint I have so far with the P9 fold is the outer screen. More specifically the bezels. It seems to me it’s an area Google cheaped out on. If it’s a stand alone screen it’s one thing, but it could be more uniform and have smaller bezels for the fold version. The inner screen looks great. Basically the exact opposite of the first gen fold. I look forward to seeing your impressions. It’s tempting coming from an iPhone user. I’ll check it out in person when the display models are available.
I couldn’t agree more! Those large bezels will definitely stand out when we compare them to the OnePlus Open. Even the internal screen's bezel seems bigger than it should be. Maybe they’re aiming for extra durability with those thicker borders. We’ll find out soon enough in just a few weeks. Thanks for tuning in and sharing your thoughts-I really appreciate your support! 👍👍
3:30 what I understood, is that the pixel 9 has a wider angle for the selfie camera, so the higher resolution would allow you to zoom in more when you think the angle is to wide.
LOL, Yes, that was an AI moment in my brain. I didn't even catch it after reviewing the video. You're actually only the second person to mention it out of 10,000. Good catch. Thanks for watching and commenting I appreciate your support.
Perfect sanerio for you. I'm pleased they finally went to a Pro in the smaller phone like Apple. The great thing is there is no compromise like they do with the iPhone. Thanks for watching and commenting. I appreciate your support. 👍
I'm doing it only because of the $700 trade in value plus the store credit. Makes it $200 bucks. Don't care about the Gemini advanced too much, but that supposedly being a $200 value could theoretically justify calling it a free phone upgrade all said and done.
That's great that works out for you. I would have traded up but they don't give anymore for the 256gb P8P but they certainly charge more for the P9P 256gb. It would cost me $400 to upgrade and it's not enough change for me to warrant that right now. I have $350 credit for buying the 9 Pro Fold but they won't make it available until that phone ships. I may do the upgrade then if they don't drop the trade-in value between now and then. 👍🥴

Thus is just reading off the specs sheet. I came here looking for a video that actually compared these devices, as in showing side-by-side apps opening, running through various apps & games then returning to a previously opened app. Talking & showing about the battery life and camera comparisons.
Hey there! I wanted to let you know I made this video right after the Pixel event, before anyone could actually get their hands on the new phones. Only a few lucky folks got to try them out for a short time, and even they couldn't do side-by-side comparisons. I totally get why you were hoping to see a real-world comparison - that's what we all want! But I made this video for people who missed the event and are thinking about upgrading while the pre-order promotions were available. If you stay tune to the channel I will do side-by-side comparisons when I receive the phone. Thanks so much for watching and for sharing your feedback. I really appreciate it!
I was going to upgrade to pixel 8 Pro next month but am I worth going for the Pro9 seems they will cost the same. I used phone for reading, listen to music, photos, emails and calls.
If you’re thinking about upgrading to a smaller phone, the Pixel 9 Pro could be a great choice. I love that Google didn't compromise on features when going from the XL to the standard size. Now, you can enjoy all the extra features in a more compact design. If you prefer the larger size, the Pixel 8 Pro is close to the XL, so that might be the way to go. But honestly, for most people, myself included, the smaller Pixel 9 Pro is a perfect fit. I hope this helps! Thanks so much for watching the channel and for your comment-I really appreciate your support. 👍👍
Great video, I chose not to upgrade and you confirmed my thoughts. I kinda want to upgrade to the Pixel 9 Pro Fold but its too expensive and they're not giving enough for trade.
Main reason for me not to upgrade from my P8P is there's no Bay color this year. I was really hoping to get a Pro Pixel in a smaller form factor but it has to be in that Bay blue. Ah well! Saves me some $$$ this time.
Hey, at least you know what you want. That's a great bit of self-control and I can appreciate that. Thank you for watching and leaving your comment I appreciate your support!👍
Currently have the pixel 8 and Verizon is offering me 800 for my Pixel 6A for the 9 Pro. I am down for that trade so I can keep my 8 and have the 9 Pro. 6A was my least favorite phone.
Wow, that's an incredibly good deal. Google isn't even offering that much for the Pixel 8 Pro. I would do that in a heartbeat as well. Thanks for sharing this. I appreciate you tuning into the channel and your support!👍
To be honest being a user of the Samsung device for 3 years and loving it I would stick with Samsung and get the S24 ultra. The one UI on Samsung has far better features than what you will find on Pixel. Pixel does not add any extras, it's basically just pure raw Android. If you don't use extra features like Good Lock or the extra AI features on the Samsung, then you may like the Pixel phones. But in general the Samsung one UI is unmatched with any other carrier features. I hope this was helpful. Thanks for tuning into the channel and leaving your comment I appreciate your support. 👍
I agree, the skin tones on the Pixel device photos are great as well as the rest of the photo processing. I believe not upgrading is a smart choice. Thank you for tuning into the channel and for your comment. I appreciate your support! 👍
wtf is Google thinking? 3 years in a row of price increase? Hell no. These r unrefined phones that don’t get the basics right. Hopefully the G5 will solve some issues but will they raise the price again? Flagship price must include a flagship chip.
The short answer? Money. I totally get it-incremental upgrades just don’t cut it for me either. That’s why I’m diving into the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, even though it’s not exactly a 'pro' phone, because at least it brings something fresh to the table. Next year might be more exciting with the G5, which, if the rumors are true, could be a real game-changer. Thanks so much for watching and sharing your thoughts-I really appreciate your support!👍👍
when you talk about if the cameras any better on the pixel 9 pro XL Google said after keynote the update it with software and the HDR plus has been built from the ground up those two things alone with the new chip, those three things I think the camera is going to be better
I’m hopeful that’s the case too! Generally, better processors lead to improved photo and video quality, and all those updates are promised for the Pixel 8 Pro as well. So, if it’s a software thing, it should enhance the Pixel 8 Pro just like you mentioned. You bring up a great point about the Pixel 9 Pro likely having better HDR, but we’ll have to wait and see once we get our hands on it and can test it out. Thanks a lot for your input-I really appreciate your support! 👍👍
On the connectivity section, you should have talked more about the new Exynos 5400 modem. It adds satellite connectivity, is more efficient and wayyyyy faster 5G speeds of up to 14.79 Gbps.
Great point! The Pixel 9 will definitely have a better modem, which should do exactly what you mentioned. Thanks for highlighting that-I really appreciate your input. I’m glad to have you as part of the community!👍👍
Me watching this vid on a five year old realme pro 3. "So you're telling me that if I take the 8 pro, I would have a great phone with a great camera for half the price of the 9 pro ?" Seems fair. I'm still on the fence cause newer is better, but the price seems over the top and I want the phone before half September so I can't wait for prices to get slashed.
Yes, in this day of age they don't make a whole lot of changes from one generation to another. And this is one that has the least amount of change. I typically would wait 6 months when the price drops on the phones and then upgrade. A lot of times you can find them at half price. The important thing is to do what makes sense to you 👍
That’s a great question! The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra does have some unique features, like the S Pen and the impressive 10x optical zoom. How much you use those could be a deciding factor. If I’m not mistaken, the S23 Ultra also has a 100-megapixel camera. While you might lose some features by switching, the Pixel 9 Pro-and Pixel phones in general-tend to deliver better photo quality and processing. In the end, it really comes down to personal preference. If you’re looking for a smaller device, the Pixel 9 Pro could be a fantastic choice. I hope that helps and gives you something to consider. Thanks for your question-I really appreciate your support!👍👍
@@GOTgoodoldtech-1964 The S23U has a 200 megapixel but i hardly not use because it takes to much space. The S pen i only used for signing documents. Great question. The A52 is a 6.5" display which is larger than the Pixel 9 and smaller than the Pixel 8 Pro. So first which size difference would you prefer? The Pixel 9 only has two cameras and you're used to a three camera system. The P8P has the three cameras and all the extra Pro features. P9 has the latest tech and a faster chip. If you want more features for your money I would lean towards the P8P. Do what makes most sense for you. Either one is a big upgrade from the A52. I hope this was helpful. Wow, I didn't catch that. Way to capture a great deal. Congratulations on your creative thinking. Thank you for sharing and being part of the community. 👍👍
I agree with everything you said, but with the $699.00 trade in, the $200.00 store credit, and the extra 3% Google One credit at $29.00, I can upgrade from the 8 pro 256 storage and 12 gb ram to the smaller 9 pro, 128 storage and 16gb ram for only $138.00. I have only used half my storage so far for the year, and I get a newer Tensor 4 chip and an ultrasonic fingerprint reader. Energy efficiency should be slightly better with the updated chip, smaller screen and fresher battery, despite having a smaller battery than the 8 pro. Not a great improvement but one that makes sense for my particular scenario. Thanks for the great video, simplifying the choices
@@timothyoconnor9013 Yes, those combined does make it appealing. The important thing for people to know here is that the store credit doesn't go to the purchase, it must be used after the sale. I mentioned that in the video. I got $350 credit for purchasing the Pixel 9 Pro Fold but it's not available until 24hrs after the phone ships. I'm going to use it towards the Pixel 9 Pro. The creative accounting does bring you down to $138 after you use the credit but you still spend the full $300 - $400 up front for the upgrade. Thanks for watching and commenting I appreciate your view and support!
I agree with everything you said but T-Mobile is giving me $1000 for my Pixel 8 Pro as a trade in value for the Pixel 9 Pro and I'm getting a free upgrade to 512GB, so it might be worth it if you get a great deal.

@@GOTgoodoldtech-1964 last year I bought the pixel 8 pro on launch day , after like a month then price had already dropped considerably. I would agree with your typo statement. It takes wealth to upgrade. 🤣 I know what you meant and I do agree it's a worthy upgrade if you have the finances to upgrade. @@GOTgoodoldtech-1964 Google trade in values have always been pretty low. Can you tell me which pixel generation had better trade in values? To my knowledge they've never given over $600 for a previous years device. Last year the Google store gave less than $500 for previous gen.
@@double007seven You may be right. Last year I got $350 for the P6P on trade. My perspective comes from the trade-in value I received from Samsung and Apple. I really don't think the 8 or 9 are great phones. The gaming experience isn't the best, especially with emulation. Waiting for the Tensor G5, which theoretically should catch up with Apple and Samsung's flagship processors. Additional RAM can help with AI, but AI is getting old quick.

I get where you're coming from, you're not wrong. The notion that processers are more energy efficient and will use less battery is a myth. They all need to take the battery approach from the Apple playbook. Of course lately with all the AI draining batteries we need a 2" thick phone with a large battery. 🤣
That is absolutely correct. They are different cameras in respect to the manufacturer. I was reporting that they were basically the same megapixel. Absolutely. The Pixel 8 was a flop in my opinion. They didn't put enough RAM in it and then withheld A.I. features from it stating it wasn't able to process Gemini because it wasn't built for it. It's crazy how people are becoming more addicted year by year to smart phones even if they have a good one already
I know right, that is very interesting how some people need the new device every year. Of course, the manufacturers pitch it that way as if nothing else can do what the new one does. That's why I like to put these videos out to let people know when there's not a need for an upgrade due to performance or features. Thank you for watching and I appreciate your comments and support. 👍👍
@@googleuser7126 But it's going to go on sale a few months later if you don't get good trade-in deal now
I usually try to hold off until the updates end. Kinda a hassle switching phones too often imo.
That makes sense. We'll have to see how well that works. Thanks for commenting. 👍
“The new Tyson g4 “ . I had to rewind and listen to that twice, thought I was hearing stuff
LOL, Yes, that was an AI moment in my brain. I didn't even catch it after reviewing the video. You're actually only the second person to mention it out of 10,000. Good catch. Thanks for watching and commenting I appreciate your support.
I'm definitely upgrading to 9 Pro (not XL) from 8 Pro, because I'm so sick and tired of large phones.
Google 8 pro will be the first flagship I'm buying, hoping to exit from the loop of "2 years of midranges".
You should be able to find a good deal on the Pixel 8 Pro. It really is a good phone and I did enjoy it. My advice would be to shop around and make sure you get the best deal. Thanks for tuning in to this channel and I appreciate your comments and support! 👍
@@GOTgoodoldtech-1964 i found an offer to get it at 900€ (comparing to the 1.500 16 Gb 256 Gb of the pixel 9 pro).
I'm looking forward to get it. On Sunday.
I'll be upgrading from the pixel 7 to the 9 pro the screen upgrade alone will be huge. And if the AI helps the text to speak work better, let's go.
Oh yeah, that'll be a great upgrade. You'll definitely see the difference coming from a Pixel 7 to a Pixel 9 Pro. You will get a little more screen real estate, brighter screen, and overall better resolution. Plus, the bonus of all the pro features. Congratulations, great upgrade.

I agree, the trade-in value is pretty sad compared to what Samsung gave this year. Thanks for watching and commenting, I appreciate your support.👍
Main reason for me not to upgrade from my P8P is there's no Bay color this year. I was really hoping to get a Pro Pixel in a smaller form factor but it has to be in that Bay blue. Ah well! Saves me some $$$ this time.

Currently have the pixel 8 and Verizon is offering me 800 for my Pixel 6A for the 9 Pro. I am down for that trade so I can keep my 8 and have the 9 Pro. 6A was my least favorite phone.

I've a Samsung s21, had 3 years. Is it great to upgrade to S4 ultra or Pixel 9 pro?
To be honest being a user of the Samsung device for 3 years and loving it I would stick with Samsung and get the S24 ultra. The one UI on Samsung has far better features than what you will find on Pixel. Pixel does not add any extras, it's basically just pure raw Android. If you don't use extra features like Good Lock or the extra AI features on the Samsung, then you may like the Pixel phones. But in general the Samsung one UI is unmatched with any other carrier features. I hope this was helpful. Thanks for tuning into the channel and leaving your comment I appreciate your support. 👍
Last year I went from s21 ultra to Google Pixel 8 pro and the difference was massive, you definitely won't regret going to the pixel
More recent comparisons show some better skin tone in pictures on 9P. I do prefer the design of my 8P and probably won't "upgrade"

Yes thanks. Forgot about that.
Me watching this vid on a five year old realme pro 3.
"So you're telling me that if I take the 8 pro, I would have a great phone with a great camera for half the price of the 9 pro ?"
Seems fair.

The 9 pro looks very good and elegant. What do you think will the 9 pro an update for the Samsung Galaxy S23 ultra?
Thanks for your answer. Greetings from the Netherlands
which one is better for an upgrade coming from an A52, pixel 8 pro or pixel 9?
Great question. The A52 is a 6.5" display which is larger than the Pixel 9 and smaller than the Pixel 8 Pro. So first which size difference would you prefer? The Pixel 9 only has two cameras and you're used to a three camera system. The P8P has the three cameras and all the extra Pro features. P9 has the latest tech and a faster chip. If you want more features for your money I would lean towards the P8P. Do what makes most sense for you. Either one is a big upgrade from the A52. I hope this was helpful. @GOTgoodoldtech-1964 yeah they are paying me more to trade my pixel 8 than I paid for it.
@@futureneck4life Great deal. 👍
I agree with everything you said but T-Mobile is giving me $1000 for my Pixel 8 Pro as a trade in value for the Pixel 9 Pro and I'm getting a free upgrade to 512GB, so it might be worth it if you get a great deal.
