She did not defended an ethnic cleansing, the accusation is pointed to the country but not the Myanmar Military.
Those days, the NLD Government did not have the full authority because 25% seats were holding by the Military.
It is not as simple as the documentary you posted.
Those criminals charges are being responsible by only the Military (General Min Aung Hlaing).
Since the Military Coup 2021, you can see that Myanmar Military are killing teachers, doctors, engineers, students, and even child and pregnant woman.
Our civilian people Myanmar are fighting the terrorist Military Group ( Min Aung Hlaing) without significant help from the neighbors countries and United Nations.
the whole picture or Myanmar political about over 70 years is not as simple as the film.

What's even more sad about the whole situation is how largely forgotten the coup has become in international news. Democracy truly died in darkness in Myanmar.

A single dictator cannot make right decisions all the time
So we need distribution of power
and sometimes, even democracy can go wrong
as the majority can be wrong about issues.
We need certain checks and balances
to guide democracy onto the right path
For example, constitutional laws
that protect the rights of minorities
and freedom of speech, etc.

Indonesian military power did step down from power after '98. Strip off their own political rights in thee parlemen voluntarily, ditch their rights to fill positions on civilian government positions including presidency. Laydown all their business entities and be professional army nothing more than that, limited their movement for national defense only.
We simply ask them to be back as our proudly army of the people, and they agree. All done with constitutional process not war.
Because the PEOPLE WANTED IT WANT DEMOCRACY AS ANY HUMAN WITH A BRAIN WOULD WANT....the problem is too many cultists under the word "conservative" or code for white supremacist ideologies and agenda..it's not a surprise that ALL nations of people of color are where they are now...not a superpower power under politicians that sold out, same in the usa the republikkkan grifters are against all Americans humanity and the world..

Great documentary! Thank you for making it! But I'm confused. When was this made? It doesn't cover the military coup (famously captured by a fitness instructor's video), so it is at least 3 years old. I would like to know so that I can find out what has happened since then.

It also shows you how fragile international support actually is and also how military juntas which doesn't know how to reform in the right direction would ultimately fail.
Sustainable liberal democracy is only achievable in a country with relative stability and has achieved a certain degree of educational, economic and infrastructural institutional development.
Military governments needs to realize that in modern state, overall state security is dependent upon it being able to share powers and responsibilities with crucial civil institutions for survival. Case in example, Prussia , Meiji Japan and military government of South Korea . These government all has military military a decisive role in the shaping of public policy, sometimes detrimentally, but they were comparatively more successful as senior military leaders know when to share power with private enterprise, universities, government departs and central bank.
This is not only crucial for a modern state but a for a military to fight and win a modern war. r

I was born and raised under the old man regime in the 2000s it was bad .I lived in a city of 200k residents there was no running water or Electricity or tv. We could survive because of the fertile soils where you grows veggies and rice all year long in your back yards and empty lands I left the country in 2009. Now is much worse there because the civil war going on.
