  • I don't usually read the manual that comes along with a camera. And being very familiar with Nikon cameras, everything is where I think it is going to be. But I had no idea how to access one of the headline features of the Nikon Z9 - the continuous shooting speed of 120 frames per second. I will admit that I had to look it up. So I just wanted to share, how to find and adjust that setting.
    Photographic equipment that I often use:

    120 fps at 11 mp ???? you buy a 5 k camera for that , noooo . seriously you shoot full res raw , so that pans out to 20 fps , 10 more than the d850 , at same res , which is all i use full res ... i dont use the 9fps speed ever , very rare as most z9 users will not use the 20fps , why is the 120 fps thing highlighted on every site , im not disrespecting the camera , but the advertising , 11mp at 120fps , may as well dust off the nikon f3hp and drive 😃

      Thanks for the comment Joe. I agree that it is a rare situation that I would want to shoot 120 frames per second. One situation that I tested it was when capturing images of hummingbirds as they move insanely fast. th-cam.com/video/_O-CQwUr1r0/w-d-xo.html
      I definitely use the 20 frames per second with sports. I also own the D850 and it is a fantastic camera. But when it comes to action, those extra 11 frames per second at the peak moment can make all the difference. I think whether or not someone uses the 20fps depends on the type of photography you do. Definitely not needed if I just shot landscapes but love it and use it. Check out my video about my 5 favorite things about the Z9 if you're interested. th-cam.com/video/WDdY22ZYR7U/w-d-xo.html

    Thank You. That helps. I had it set that way and somehow inadvertently changed it, then forgot how to get back. Thanks for sharing.

      Happy to help! It isn't often that I need to use it, but one situation when I found it useful was when I was photographing hummingbirds. If you're interested, you can see that short video here: th-cam.com/video/_O-CQwUr1r0/w-d-xo.html

    So the only application I've thought of where the 120FPS would be handy is shooting someone firing a gun or some other projectile weapon.
    You mentioned hummingbirds in another comment (few times i ran into one while shooting- it was gone before i could even think of pointing the camera at it 😒), but struggling to think of anything else to use this feature on.

      I completely agree. It is not something that I would need to use a lot. Some other possibilities might include golf or tennis when you want the ball in contact with the club or racquet.

      @@thephotographytoolkit You are correct. I forgot that shooting baseball swings crossed my mind as a way to use this feature. Unfortunately adult competitive baseball doesn't really exist where i live and I'm pretty sure MLB team won't let me bring the z9 in or at least not with a lense large enough to capture anything good without a front row seat.
      I'm set on figuring out things to use this feature on for some reason, I'll circle back if i do.

      @@thephotographytoolkit If you figure out the built in remote trigger for Z9 to Z9 firing, please make a video on that too. I haven't seen it anywhere on TH-cam.

      @@DamonMoritz So I have been trying to figure it out. I have a WR-11a and when I connect it my Z9 the wireless remote option is no longer greyed out in the menu. That makes me think that I need to have another WR-11a on a second Z9 to sync them and fire the second camera. There is very little about remotes and the Z9. I did find this page though: onlinemanual.nikonimglib.com/z9/en/15_menu_guide_06_28.html#topic_led_lamp
      Also maybe Nikon Saying that there is a built in remote means you still need a WR-11a but you don't need the crazy expensive wt-7 www.nikon.com.au/wireless-transmitter-wt-7

    • @DamonMoritz
      @DamonMoritz ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@thephotographytoolkit The best I could figure out was that you need to use a wireless router to make use of the built in trigger. I have made the WR-11b with the WR-A10 adapter and the handheld remote. Makes for some wonky shooting with the remote in your lens supporting hand when shooting a second body.

    Why not just shoot it at 8k Videp Mode?

    • @thephotographytoolkit
      @thephotographytoolkit  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Justentime77 I haven't done a direct comparison but from what I have read, it is more difficult to get sharper images with the stills pulled from video. With photos, each one is sharp. Might be something I need to try in the future!
