Bro great video becuase here in southamerica almost everyone boil the water with the sugar and its a mess with the process and offcorse the expend in electricity, so this looks like a great option to try!! Thanks a lot!
I was curious how you make your Sugar Free Simple Syrup or Shave Ice Flavors? I was also wondering if you found that any one sugar free sweetener works better than any of the others for Simple Syrup. Thanks again for the informative videos.
Hi. I love your videos and it has helped me out. I am starting a shaved ice business this year. When I was looking over the directions from Southern Snow I didn’t see where you had to add the fruit acid and benzoate soda. I didn’t know if that makes the simple syrup last longer by itself or if you do have to put it in the simple syrup to mix it. Sorry trying to make sure I am mixing up my syrups correctly.
Hi, in my town i cant find liquid preservatives (citric acid and sodium benzoate); however i have found them both in powder. Can i use them? which would be the measures?
Southern Snow has a mixing option for 6lbs of sugar per gallon, and they reccommed 6lb for richness and strenght as ice melts(from website) Have you tried this, or would it be just to sweet? Thank you
I was kind of curious where you purchase your buckets at please? I had purchased some but they don't seem to be expanding very well bubble most of them Park thank you in advance
Do you still use fruit acid in your mixture? And use this recipe for every flavor? Noticed southern snow says (makes flavor more tart) so wanted to clarify. Appreciate ya!
The containers are made by berry plastics. The company I used to get them from is out of business. I’ve seen them on Amazon but if you can find a place that sells a whole case you would be better off.
Yes you can make simple syrup with just water and sugar. The citric acid and sodium benzoate make it shelf stable. If you don’t add them the syrup will go bad pretty quickly.
I have a question. I follow these instruction with southern snow products.. after a day or two my simple syrup starts smelling skunky! This cant be normal.. I use the sodium benzoate and fruit acid. Any experience with this issue? Also my shop is kept at 69-70 degrees

Hello thanks for the video. I ordered concentrated syrup from southern snow. But they told me. I don’t need the fruit acid. Unless I want it sour.. Do your flavors taste sour? Do you believe I need the fruit acid??

Is the acid necessary? In my information packet from southern snow it only says to add the benzoate soda. It said that the acid is to be added for the acidic flavors for the extra zing?
@Fuert Neigt without the preservatives it would need to be kept cold at all times to prevent any bacteria buildup. That is the purpose of the soda additive.
Do u make money off of the snow cone portion of business. Can't imagine much if you include the portion of space and electricity used from your shop. Maybe, but I can't see how. I love the idea, but how is it feasile?
Yes we do really well with the shave ice side. Because of our lower shave ice prices we bring more traffic into our shop. The shave ice also has excellent margins and where my only expenses are labor, cups and syrups we do well. The shave ice area only takes up about 70 square feet of the 2000 square feet. During slow times we only need 1 person to run both the store and the shave ice side. During summer we have 1 person on each side.
@@prettypumpkin6891 No, I would need probably 4 stands to make a good living. It is good extra money. I'm not involved as much as i used to be so i make a little less but it is pretty automated now.
I’m trying to understand on why do you need to make simple syrup? Or sugar water. Like can’t you just buy Italian soda syrup from and store and use that? Why’s sugar water needed in this business
This recipe is to thin to be used as simple syrup (it's not even 1:1), that's why it needs so much preservers. Use a 2 parts sugar to 1 part water by weight, often called a 'rich simple' syrup, it's shelf stable by itself, just make sure to clean your bottle very well. You can just dilute it back to whatever consistency you like just enough for the day, but keep the 2:1 for storage. Edit: rephrased my comment, I realized it looked a bit mean before, not my intention.
The sugar thickens it up to the right consistency. Our ice is really fluffy so we actually have more trouble getting the syrup to go all the way to the bottom. We poke holes in the ice so the syrup can make it all the way to the bottom.
Bro great video becuase here in southamerica almost everyone boil the water with the sugar and its a mess with the process and offcorse the expend in electricity, so this looks like a great option to try!!

Yes but I don’t know the powder measurements.
Will this work with a slush machine and also if your making it to use on the day can you just use the sugar and water??
This is exactly what I been looking for . How to mix everything 😅
Basically a 5lb bag of sugar per gallon of water

So you don’t warm it at all? All other videos heat up the water and sugar
No reason to
Is fruit acid a necessity when mixing the simple syrup? Or can I just use the Benzonate?
No benzoate is enough
How long does the simple syrup last on the shelve since you make a few of them at the same time?
Depends on temperature. Ours stand is in an air conditioned building. It will last all season and some.

Just starting to build my stand
If I use a different brand of syrup will I use the same measurements?

holy crap 10 cup of sugar . is that super sweet?
It's like a popsicle its diluted by the ice.
How much is the total water content in a 5 gallon container ? I wish to make it in a steel vessel not in a plastic container . Please reply .

We don’t anymore. We just use there preservative.

Does using the preservative cancel out using the fruit acid and b. Soda?
Do you have to boil the water with sugar
I don’t but I do believe letting it sit at least a day helps all the sugar dissolve. Shaking it works for us. Thanks
How about if I don’t want to make a gallon and only one 16oz water bottle what are the measurements ?
Trying to find this out too. 30 yrs pharmacy and I feel like you'd just divide the recipe into 1/2, 1/4 etc

How often do you have to make the gallon sized simple syrup? How many do you go through in a month?

How many days this syrup can storing? Where did get southern snow syrup . I am from india
With citric acid and sodium benzoate it can be stored for up to a year.
Can you use southern snows preservative instead of using the fruit acid and Benzoate Soda?
Yes I believe that is what is in their preservative.
Hi! I’m in another country and they don’t sell sodium benzoate. Do you know if this can be done with just citric acid?
I’m not sure what you would use to make it shelf stable. Another option is to mix it without preservatives and refrigerate it
can u use citric acid instead of fruit acid ? what would be a good replacement for fruit acid in your opinion
Yes same thing
How much of water?
Add ingredients listed and then fill the rest with water until it makes 1 gallon.
I think that with the Southern Snows concentrates that they already put citric acid in theirs.
Some do have citric acid. Some don’t. Also your simple syrup won’t be shelf stable without citric acid.
So, I thought you had to boil the sugar mix?
I never have. If you shake it well by the next day it is completely dissolves.
Can you only make it with water and auger?
Yes you can make simple syrup with just water and sugar. The citric acid and sodium benzoate make it shelf stable. If you don’t add them the syrup will go bad pretty quickly.
Does the pre mixed ready to use syrup need the preservatives added to it after it is opened?
I believe RTU syrup is shelf stable and has preservatives
Once I make my Simple Syrup, how long must it sit before I can add the concentrate?
Just until the sugar is dissolved you will know when the simple syrup is clear
why do you need fruit acid the lady at southern snow said it does not preserve the life of the syrup just the benzoate soda does
Cuanto se le hecha del concentrado de sabor ?
1oz per quart
Is the syrup real thick? Also why not use cornstarch to make it thick.
Why do you prefer that flavoring brand and have you tried Snowie syrups? Ty
Half the price of snowie and tastes great.
