    Nice video Josh. Are you using cloudflare as your DNS in this situation? Is by your choice or is that what Private Relay selects by default as apples decision?

      Private Relay doesn’t give me a choice. It may be Cloudflare or it may be another third part provider.

    Hi Josh -- love your videos -- always great info. Just wondering if you've tested this new Private Relay feature while using a VPN? Can you use Private Relay while using a VPN, or will Private Relay not work? Does using Private Relay slow down browsing (have you run a Speedtest while using it and while not using it?) If you can use Private Relay while using a VPN, does Internet speed slow down even more? I use a VPN at all times (NordVPN, using their Lynx protocol) and the Safari browser, and I do pay for extra iCloud storage -- so I'd be very interested in your thoughts.
    Thank You

      Hey Jordan! Thanks for the kind words. Yes, I have been able to use a VPN and also turn on Private Relay. I haven’t done many speed tests, but anecdotally the speeds have been slightly slower.
      Honestly, I don’t see why you would want to use both unless you feel like that extra layer of encryption is required for some reason.

Also, if private relay is not on, but there is a LOCK shown on the address bar, is my login and password safe to enter? Lastly, what about using banking apps vs the web, is one safer than the other? Private Relay encrypts my traffic *to* the website, so that no one in between - not even apple - knows everything. But the Website I‘m visiting has my IP address, or does it get the anonymous IP address from Cloudflare? What does the Website get in terms of information about me?
    P.S. I love your channel!

    • @AllThingsSecured
      @AllThingsSecured  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, the website - and Cloudflare - shouldn't know your original IP address (that gets stripped away by Apple). They can only see the current metadata such as which browser you're using and some basic specs of your computer (screen resolution, device, etc.).

      @@Squiershire it does potentially limit who has all the pieces of the puzzle to Apple. I guess if you don't mind that then it's good enough maybe?
      But, if you truly want privacy, a VPN will work with all of your apps, not just the Apple ones.
      I pay about $6 a month for a VPN that works with all of my internet enabled apps, and still lets me choose if I want any of them to bypass the VPN for whatever reason I choose with a little slider in the settings menu.
      To me it's pseudo privacy, because it still lets someone besides yourself know where you're going and what you're doing, even if it does limit it to only one company.
      Again, if that's all the privacy you care about, then maybe it's enough?
      We all hope nobody is using it to try to circumvent laws or abuse the rights of others, but that's not the only reason someone might want to hide their traffic.

    Scince privacy relay couldn’t get past my shithole country’s rules and regulations its not available here
    So my question is can i change my region using a regular vpn then use privacy relay to make apple think i’m not from a shithole country?
    Even tho i tried this method but it still thinks i’m from Iran
    Any suggestions?

    • @AllThingsSecured
      @AllThingsSecured  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven’t tried that, but my guess is that you’d have to change your GPS location data as well.

    👍👍👍Thanks!
    hmmm... more like an Onion network, similar to TOR BUT relayed in Apple's nodes. Technically, Apple can still "track" the user, and @ the same time "block" the others from tracking you, so Apple will Gain More Monopoly to user's telemetry.
    No Apple is Just too NICE to do that.
    Again its just Josh's old saying: how much and where would you like to place your trust.
    TOR can be comparatively slow and again Not sure if they could still track the user. If it is possible, it might be harder.
    I might use "Opera" private browsing with their VPN more than Apple's Safari. In terms of Privacy order: TOR, Opera, Safari. When speed is concern, perhaps: Safari, Opera, TOR.
    A mixed, & compartmentalise use btw them might be the way to go.

    Apple Private Relay is not a thing here in Turkey. I also think it is not a thing in China and Saudi Arabia.

    • @AllThingsSecured
      @AllThingsSecured  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Correct. It is a feature that is only available in countries that allow it. And China and Saudi Arabia definitely don’t allow it.

      It’s something to do with the hub thing. I think that’s why Turkey won’t allow it.

    In other words, Apple is attempting to force people to use Safari where they can then harvest the data that goes through it etc etc. Or if that isn't the immediate plan, shoehorning every iOS user into their browser of choice is step 1 in a scheme we are not yet seeing.

    • @AllThingsSecured
      @AllThingsSecured  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a possible scenario.

      @@AllThingsSecured I mean, if it truly is a network setting, then its application should be open to all web browsers (or outgoing internet traffic in general). And even if not, surely it would be a feature that other browsers could implement. If this doesn't happen or if Apple refuses to allow it (probably under the guise of the security of the feature) than Apple will have tipped their hand!
