    I'm so glad you mentioned the SLS AMG and AMG GT problem. It gets even worse when you try to get infos for the SLS AMG GT (yeah, there was a GT line) and you end up getting pics of the AMG GT. Totally different cars! Another reason for the high price is its predecessor, the 300 SL with Gullwing doors back in the 50s. They tried to revise that idea with a 6.208 litre NA V8, dry-sump lubrication. It's that and the transaxle configuration which made the SLS so special. The AMG GT has just a 4-litre with some spinny bois

    The 944 in all trims ranging from the base all the way to the turbo S share the same widebody. the base and the S are almost visually identical with a few nuanced trim pieces, but the turbo and the turbo S have slightly different front fenders to meet with the front bumper and an underbody spoiler in the rear among many other unseen changes. over the years a lot people fit the turbo front bumper and rear spoiler to their lower trim 944 so its very confusing. all that aside you're absolutely right about people confusing the 944 with the 924.

      I remember seeing a few SLS’ right when they came out, but now I haven’t seen one on the road in years.
      And yes the AMG GT is just like seeing mid 2000s Mercedes SL500. They’re a relatively common sight and basically did replace the SL by stealing all of its sales.

    I've never had any trouble telling the SLS and the AMG GT apart, but I considered the GT to be the spiritual successor to the SLS. The price gap between the two is something I have never thought of because it makes no difference to me. I can't afford either of them. If I had AMG GT money, I would probably go for the Porsche instead. As for the rarity, I have actually seen an SLS parked far away from anything else outside of Daytona International Speedway back when Ferrari was testing their 458 Grand Am car in 2011. I don't recall ever seeing an AMG GT on the road.
    The 2005 Ford GT definitely would've been called the GT40 if Ford owned the trademark. It's the production version of the 2002 GT40 concept, so correcting people for calling it the GT40 instead of the Ford GT is pedantic. It's like insisting that the Dodge Ram was discontinued in 2010.
    The 924 seems to be more wedge-shaped at the front end than the 944.
    I didn't know about the Impreza and WRX diverging into two separate models, but Nissan did something similar with the GT-R. The R35 is not a Skyline.

    Quick thing about the 924/944/968.
    The platform of these cars was developed by the porsche se for vw as a replacement for the carman ghia. That's why there is a vw engine under the bonnet of the 924. But vw pulled out leaving porsche with a car they didn't plan on making and making proverbial lemonade out of lemons. The 944 got the in house developed, halfed v8 engine from the 928 wich was porsches idea of a 911 replacement. That 2.5 liter i4 later got to 3.0 liters in the 968 wich was the last use of the platform that started with the 924.

    • @BassistUndStolzDrauf
      @BassistUndStolzDrauf 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also every 944 is a widebody, you can not just bolt on the widebody parts. In the rear it is part of the chassis. Only the 924 Carrera GT Fender could be put on a regular 924. The 924S already has the 944 engine, and generally the cars really aren't that different underneath.

    I enjoyed your sharing the Impreza WRX vs WRX topic. When I was looking for a new car to replace my toasted Golf, I never considered the WRX because I wasn’t looking for a real sports car. I was still looking for a manual though, and through my research brand new regular Imprezas still offered manual. As such, I bought a regular Impreza sport hatchback in manual. I think Imprezas somehow still has an appeal to people who feel nostalgic to the rally days or when the Impreza still had the WRX trim level. I also applaud Subaru for keeping the Impreza to regular consumers while branching the WRX more towards the car enthusiasts.

    Mercedes is probably the car company I know the least about so I didn’t know. Most European I don’t know too much about asides from the obvious. Asides from just a lack of interest in “foreign” manufacturers, I think a lot of this has to do with the naming of the cars. Mercedes are so hard for me to keep track of because they sound like stormtroopers to me who is an American muscle guy. Mercedes SLS AMG is not very attention grabbing names. This seems to be common in European and luxury manufactures and in which in both groups, I have no interest.
