So what grip do you recommend aside from the Sony for the a7IV?

I went through two third party battery grips by Pixel on my Nikon D500. I had issues with the first one, i.e., the dials wouldn’t register changing the shutter speed or aperture if turned fast, sometimes the camera would stop focusing and it would bring up an error message on the top panel screen, it sounded like it was shorting because it would make an electrical popping noise and would then shut the camera down and I also experienced the battery drain. I returned it and the replacement started doing exactly the same approx 3 months later. I ended up purchasing a used genuine Nikon grip and wish I’d have bought one from the start.

Hi, I face the same issues but I know why the Meike battery grip drops the battery level is due to the built-in wireless remote control board, you need to power off it when you are not in use.

Hi. I'm actually not using the wifi handgrip, the one I have is the standard grip. Not sure why it happens

@@AlKulla Hi, The wifi controller is already built into Meike standard grip, no difference between STD or WiFi model, they just add the remote device for wifi model only.

I just bought the Sony OEM battery grip for my a7IV. It was on sale but still expensive. However, it is very well made, very solid. It’s an exact match for the look & feel of the a7IV. It has a safe storage place for the battery compartment door that you need to remove before installing the grip. (Removing that little door is quite easy.) The buttons and dials feel like & work like the ones on the camera body. I bought the grip for better ergonomics in case I do a lot of vertical shooting, and also for double the battery life if I do any lengthy videos. It does make the camera bulkier and heavier, so that’s a consideration. If you need a battery grip for an a7IV, I recommend this one rather than the 3rd party types. But I doubt it is essential for most a7IV owners, as the battery life of the Sony batteries is very good, so that carrying one spare battery would cover most shooting situations and avoid the bulk.

You are using the incorrect battery grip. You have the Meike A7RIV model not the one for the A7IV. Those are 2 different battery grips

Hi, I think there is something wrong with you Battery Grip, I received mine and installed it, memorized the energy left in my battery, it was 59%, and after 2 days it is still the same. Before the grip, my camera was draining energy, found online that I could solve with a factory reset, did it and yes, it stopped! Now batteries last even in the camera when not being used. My 7Siii gets warm while taking pictures (I'm a photographer), that's a waste of energy, but, couldn't find anything to solve that. Sad about that, only by being on running the basic system, it gets warm, imagine doing something heavier, like high res video! I was waiting something better from Sony! But, back to the grip, it is ok for the price!

Can you recommend a decent 3rd party battery grip for the A7 4? Something that wouldn't break the bank like the Sony one?

Looks like amazon is out of it right now. Here is a link to the a7R IV grip but you can come back to amazon every once and a while and check to see if they have the a7 IV in stock. Hope this helps. amzn.to/3FISjJWI

I do not think your settings save even with out using the grip if you are on any custom mode dial setting. Happens to me all the time. Apparently you have the grip for the A7RIV and not the A7IV. I have used MEIKE grips for years on all my Sony cameras and love them, for the price.

The only problem that there are no alternatives for A7M4 if you want:
    1) Good fit with the camera body
    2) Remote control with a long range
