Like, Penelope has clearly been ruling Ithaca in her own right for the past 20 years, which implies that she's a queen _regent_ and not a queen _consort_-- she and her husband have equal power as co-rulers. But then, Odysseus was able to become king while his own mother was still alive, since she only died about halfway into his time away... so maybe the queen being able to be a solo ruler was a law/policy that Odysseus himself made before he left? Or maybe waiting for the heir to be a certain age _is_ standard policy, but Ody was so brilliant even at 13 that they decided to crown him early x'D

It seems the suitor would've been Regent, until Telemachus could theoretically take over. However the suitors plans to kill telemachus, to replace him with their own man, to gain the Throne
