  • Arabs suffer from a long and systematic stereotyping from the West. From the Orientalist movement of the 18th century till today, Western perceptions of Arabs and by extension Muslims, are based on what they have been conditioned to believe through the media be it in the form of literature, art, and more recently, movies and television, the tribal sheikh, the belly dancing concubine, the filthy rich oil billionaire and the token terrorist. How has this impacted how Arabs and Muslims in today's world? Arabs still do not attain the level of humanity equal to the West. Westerners still feel entitled to the possessions of Arabs be them natural resources or lands and are still treated as uncivilised and educated.
Hollywood has had a significant role in creating this reality. Ever since the late 19th century , the Western film industry has promoted negative interpretations of Arab societies, belief systems and their intentions for life. This video will take you on an analysis of the history of such a strategic process of dehumanising Arabs and Muslims.

Antisemite was a term coined by a German in the 19th century specifically to distinguish hating Jews for ethnic reasons rather than religious. He wanted to clarify this as a “scientific” hatred rather than the more traditional religious hatred because he was a secular man that didn’t want to be lumped in with Catholics. It was never intended for Arabs or any other semitic group.

thanks man im arab and when i first saw how Hollywood shows us i was very furious
Thousands of movies that simply just hate on us and with lies beyond belief my
Especially on woman like i just couldn't understand woman are so honored here especially in Syria Egypt Saudi Qatar yeman oman
A story we are taught at a young age is how when Muhammads followers seeked asylum in another city the people there that didn't want them told the cities judge how Muhammed believed that the woman should be honored more than any other and there mistakes should be excused the judge asked the men why do you think that
The muslim men asked him who carried you in the belly for 9 months
Who taught you to talk walk and eat
Who do you go to When in fear
    He answered my mom
The Muslim man then asked are you saying with all your heart that the person that does all this without anything to gain shouldn't be honored (even if you don't believe the story they teach it to us and the Arabs go by it)
And Muslim women at Muhammads time could work on land teach had equal rights
My whole childhood and even as i grew up i felt jealous of how much woman have so much freedom of what they can do
Seriously when i first saw the American preceptive i was very surprised
One question why do you respect your mom and honer her but not the mom leaving down the street
Please whenever you see arabs in movies remember that the cia sees the script and can edit it at well because they fund sooo many movies
Random fact a 1400 years ago all forms of slavery where banned by islam and every body was free 1200 years later in America it was still normal
You may ask yourself how would you feel if you lived at the time well nothing cause it was normal
    Just like 10000 killed children
And more than 300000 living in an area of Manhattan with random adults because like most are either trying to defend gaza or there simply dead
And there starving and its normal somehow and its more important to talk about some 20 year old protesters i. Collages even though 90% of students are with the protests
İts simply dumb to talk about 20 year olds not going to school for a week or so
And forget 2 million people 40000 already dead
Hundred thousand expected to die of starvation if food is not supplied

Islam in its history was extremely tolerant especially when compared to nations that today are supposedly the more civilised. But we must also acknowledge that there are those that have abused the faith in seeking power and this we must address as a collective to right that path.

It’s a way to mock them and fantasize about them it’s also straight racism and antisemitism and this have been going on for decades with the arrival of animation and all , the Muslim kings were once the most powerful and respected in the world and I think Europeans wanted to hide their weaknesses and defeats by defamation of the great Arab and Muslim history , there’s also Arab movies where they depict western people like women being stupid and uneducated but as Muslims majority of 2 billion are very religious people so it doesn’t affect us at all and some people might talk about Arab slavery , yes there was Arab slavery but it disappeared with arrival of Islam so it’s not fair to link it to more close centuries

As always thanks, this is a topic that needed to be discussed and for long on my mind. We are seeing references made to the 60s movie "Exodus" and how it helped shaped the mind of generations; I believe even the Israeli politicians at the time said it's worth it's weight in gold, now add 60 more years of layer upon layer of that. It's the stigma that this generation needs to destroy, even though many don't quite yet know they have it yet. The movie Kingdom of Heaven was I believe the first time that I saw a movie where the dignity of the opposing sides was held at the same level and was very refreshing.

    • @thekandarichronicles
      @thekandarichronicles  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

You're absolutley right on the movie Kingdom of Heaven, portraying a respect of other people civilisations and religions by the Muslims and especially Salah ElDin.
There are many instances where we see how Hollywood either diminishes Arabs or reinforces a Zionist narrative. Yes Exodus was one but many others such as Ben Hur and Cast an Iron Shadow speak of the plight of Jews in history that follow that same Zionist narrative. Many many more are out there.
Thanks Hakukuze7947 for your amazing input.

It is also intriguing that in this vilification campaign, most of these stereotypical Arab characters are played by either Israeli or Jewish actors like Sacha Baron Cohen, Eugene Levy, Oded Fehr, Ofer Samra.

    • @thekandarichronicles

Thank you for your work and for having made this video. I have seen various aspects villifying arabs in many movies and I have read the great essential Jack Shaheen's book. As for an exemple of the anti arab propaganda, I recommand to analyse the William Friedkin's four movies including "rules of engagement which you showed in your video". Check also the introduction of "the sorcerer", "To live and die in L.A", and "the exorcist"(Irak, Arab facing the statue and standing the same way + the crossing of the wings of the statue and the crossing of the keffieh"
All this will help you to understand the pattern

I'm Colombian and I live in south America, I don't watch Netflix because I both consider it a waste of time and money, but I hired it for my "nurse friend " who was taking care of me because I broke my knee, while I was recovering from surgery.
I also do not like it because in Latin America, it has honestly a BUNCH of shows narco related where Colombians are seen as just people that belong to a drug cartel and nothing else, oh yes, they portrait women as sexual workers or evil bitch*s that want to take anyone's money. It's disgusting. So I can definitely relate with that misrepresentation Arabs also have and I hate it.
Anyways, while I was going thru the Netflix catalogue to see if something could catch my attention outside those drug cartel shows that people love and that I hate including breaking bad, I searched for Palestinians, Palestine, nothing. Just a documentary from 2015 that I obviously watched, then googled Israel and there were a bunch of shows and oh yes, including some that had Palestinians portrayed as t3rrorists. I was as disgusted as when I look at those representations from my own nationality that make me feel sick.
I also repeated the same formula with "Jewish" "Jews" and "Arabs" "Arabic"... You can imagine how the search resulted. 🙄
And tbh it is SO HARD to be able to jump the fence and find something where u can actually start unlearning and relearning something outside orientalism!! Like even if you want to it's hard if you don't know anyone from Arab countries or Arabic in general, for example I have looked for years playlists of traditional music from Arab countries and the only thing I have found are videos were the same monotonic instruments playing in a very computerized and that keep being Boring for hours and hours.
I recently found the good trace and finally TH-cam started recommending me things outside that mold. I was finally on the right track.
It took me a while to figure out how to search for the good stuff.
Anyways, the western americanized media influence makes it harder for us to learn about the middle east in the proper way. But we will get there. The world is getting there.
So yeah, thank you for this video and your content. I just discovered you.

    SEMITES [ARABS] FIGHTING SEMITES [SHEPARDIC]=ANTISEMITES
Moses was sent to all three elements of this 'unholy trinity'.
40:24 To Pharaoh, Haman and Qaroon, but they said, 'A spellbinding liar he is.' [28:6,29:39. Saahir = Magician = Trickster = An eloquent, spellbinding speaker =A deceitful liar = One who stuns the intellect. Pharaoh, Haman and Qaroon (Korah) are the archetypes of tyranny, priesthood and wealth respectively. It is important to note from this verse that Moses was sent to all three elements of this 'unholy trinity'. From this infers the mutual dependence of the forces of tyranny, priesthood and hoarding. These three elements have always worked in concert against the forces of justice and equity. Haman was the chief priest as well as chief of Pharaoh's armies. The wealthy Qaroon belonged to the Israelites, the people of Moses. But he was Pharaoh's slave-driver. He represents Capitalism, pursuit of wealth with its associated inequities]

Great as always 👍 as we have talked before, there are a lot of people who are oblivious about us , and as horrible and sad what is happening in Gaza, it really opened the eyes of many , not only to the atrocities that are happening, but to shady and vicious practices by the media.
And to be fair, stereotyping is a crime that both sides practice, but the damage done by the western side is much greater and well planned, we also see the west as the source of all evils (which they are not) , and we use this as a defence mechanism to justify the failure and corruption that is spreading in our nations .
We all should see each other as humans with hopes, dreams, struggles and identities.

I think more people are coming to understand how the media depicts certain groups as heroes or villains to justify national interests. For example, depicting the Afghans as heroes when they fought against Soviets, and as villains when they started resisting NATO.
Nowadays, it seems the strategy is to appropriate the stories of the victims, and retell it to either feign sympathy or justify the cruelty of previous actions. Dune 2 is the most recent example which comes to mind, particularly when the protagonist (ironically played by a French actor) shouts out “Long live the fighters!”… which is apparently inspired by the Algerian war-cry “Long live the martyrs!” (said by the victorious independence fighters after kicking out the French). Sadly, the Dune franchise is full of these things.
But I wouldn't be too concerned about kid movies like Aladdin. Kids are innocent and won't think twice about funny animations.
Related anecdote: I used to watch a show called "Babar the Elephant", which was about an elephant king who moved to the city and returned to reclaim his throne and improve his kingdom. As a kid, I just enjoyed the story. When I reached 11th grade, my teacher told me it was a racist story about an African being "civilized" after living in European society, and bringing that "civilization" back to his homeland. Thinking back on it, I can kind of see it. But as a kid, I never saw it that way. Even as an adult, I would never have seen it like that if my teacher didn't bring it up. And this is coming from a Pakistani who, in theory, should be aware of subtle neo-colonialism.

    • @thekandarichronicles
      @thekandarichronicles  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

It's not really about innocence for kids. It's about conditioning through repetition that someone who is different to you will automatically have a fear factor associated with them. Repetition is key as well as the quantity of elements that can affect one's mindset. Dont forget also it's about the context you live in. Parents come into play and the fact that you I assume weren't living in a Western society where you might feel privileged and superior to others.
Thank you for the great input and really enjoyed reading your thoughts.

That's very true in the west and I totally agree, but in the southeast, especially where I'm from, the conditioning of arab stereotypes are literally from word of mouth either from maids that tell nightmare stories of them being beaten or getting SA'd and from nightworkers that say arab tourists are the ones that readily book a woman for months in a "temporary marriage contract". Also the horrible abuse that mostly muslim south asian workers endure in arab countries doesn't help arabs in their image.
I'm sure these aren't the norm and it's a minority case, but it's not so small that a stereotype can stem from it. Maybe arabs need some "stereotyping" help as well? Especially towards south and southeast asians.

There is no society that is void of people that are immoral or unethical. I will not defend those who act in such a way even if they are Arabs. Arabs and Muslims definitely need to rediscover humility and the fundamental practice that we are all the same, brothers and sisters in life.
