"Tears were standing in my eyes, like deer before they bolt." That line crushes me every time. I wish David Berman could have lived a little bit longer on the love of that dog. RIP.
Damn near started crying when I heard Saturday Night Inside Out. So much has changed for me in the 16 years following Since I Left You, and even since uploading this demo. The wait was entirely worth it. Thank you, Avalanches.
Lizzy K. thank you for doing this. straight up cried when I heard the first notes of "Because I'm Me" and by the time I got to "Saturday Night Inside and Out" I was a desert.
OMG no way... David... I can't believe this is even available. My heart is breaking. I want this song played at my funeral. RIP David. Thank you Lizzy. Thank you Avalanches. I can't believe they did it again. Thank you everyone who loves this. Yes you.
I've been told you can live a long long time on the love of a dog And that things get bitter and bad when the people are wrong And sleep can be had for the price of a song Late in the day, when the options are gone When the seatbelt is the only hug you've felt in weeks When wrong numbers are the totality of your social life The obscure strategies of wildlife Only flummox the hell out of you kid
My favorite is: "It was like I was stretching my arm through the cat-door to Heaven. I was thinking, I could lick the frosting off these summer days if the nights were half as sweet." What a beautiful and soul-crushing way to express hesitant hopefulness through the prism of depression.
I adore his work in Actual Air but this piece is just sublime. perhaps it's just getting to hear that world-weariness inside of his delivery. relight relight and relight. rip DCB.
Rest in Peace David. I used some of your words in my dad's eulogy recently. I know it likely wouldn't have made a difference, but I wish I had the chance to tell you how much you meant to me.
I'm sorry to hear about your loss. Using Berman in your Dads eulogy would have been beautiful - I wish you could have told him too. There are so many things so many of us wanted to say, but it all boils down to gratitude
That's why poetry is so great. It's the only true way to see the world through someone else's experience. Check out more of David's poetry, specifically the poem: "Imagining Defeat"
Well their first album was entitled 'Since I left you' But then again other great artists like Deltron 3030 also make albums 10 years apart. A true masterpiece isn't a thing to be rushed. Production of an album that lasts, that you can listen to over and over without tiring of it. Always finding something new and inviting within cacophony of instrumentation.
It isn't complex. It isn't meant to be a brand new revamped killer single like other bands. This, is the Avalanches. Emotion is what the music is built on. Just listen to the words, and the background music's harmony with the words, and you'll notice the completeness and serenity. This, is what the Avalanches is all about.
I first saw her in a mega store The day glow raven born into a free fall Like plastic easter basket grass Falling from an overpass The fulfillment of a 10th grade prophecy A motel masterpiece Blind to the branching possibilities Blind to linked impossibilities Teardrops were standing in my eyes Like deer before they bolt
Me, like a banged up dog walking half sideways I adored the way she modified my mornings When I'd wake up in the calm shoals of her bed Somersaults and smoke in a universe of sleep Before she slipped into her heritage and disappeared And now every second thought is of control
Think of it more as the band saying 'yes, we are still here' than an attempt to rock the place. If and when that second album shows up, no doubt it will be a work of art. Just like this track!
You can hear the instrumental hook from Strawberry Number 23, which was later sampled in an Avalanches song ft. Freddie Gibbs. Think it was put out as a b-side.
0:09 "We inaugurate the evening..." 0:30 "I'd see fireworks not supposed to be..." 1:36 "I first saw her in a megastore... 1:52 "The fulfillment of a 10th grade prophecy..." 2:01 "Blind to the branching possibilities..." Sampled in The Avalanches - Saturday Night Inside Out. RIP David Berman! 🕺🌃❤🩹
I guess in a way I long to be rad When I was with her it felt wrong to be sad Did I tell you an angel finally came and shut my mouth? There was a smile and a tear in her voice too And she taught me to relight, relight and relight again
I'm a huge fan of the Avalanches but not a huge fan of spoken word/poetry type music, although the more times i hear this song the more it grows on me. Regardless, im in love with the song in the background (of what little i can hear). If anyone knows what song this is, i'd love to know!
We inaugurate the evening Just drumming up a little weirdness It gets late so early now The waves come in in mountain phases Linked in posibilities Branching posibilities I'd see fire where it's not supposed to be In the empty library, at super time By the respirating basement door The dog eats out of an old tambourine on the floor
Captain Stingray let's just say i know someone who works very closely with one the members, and she's told me that in February of this year the album was almost complete
It was like I was stretching my arm through the cat-door to heaven I was thinking I could lick the frosting off these summer days If the nights were half as sweet
"Tears were standing in my eyes, like deer before they bolt."

God damn it that line is perfect
Rest in peace my man. May your words live on forever. ❤

that song is one of the best they've made, buuuut I wish FJM didn't feel underused, a wonderful closer anyway :)

why do i feel like ive stumbled upon a sacred shrine deep in the woods
Because in a way you have…this is oddly special
Wow, this hurts my heart that I'm late to this party. Revolution in process, brother. Rest easy!
Rest in peace David. Thank you for some of the prettiest words I've heard in my lifetime.
Please let your eyes be a friend to me again
Its just malfunctioning teardrops
A cowboy overflow of the heart
R.I.P.... "Saturday Night Inside Out" means a lot to me
We need your words more than ever, David. But also glad to have these breadcrumbs on TH-cam to help us get through.

I've been in love with Actual Air for over a decade. So glad to hear this now....
You're first album changed my life please . . . 12 years later i need that change again
Raúl Ruiz de la Orden I hope you felt that change last year

Unbelievable...RIP Berman :(
Our greatest living poet.
Well, shit.
@@SleepBomber you jinxed it.
@@MasDouc don't...
Such comfy small town vibes, beautiful
This is beyond amazing! How have I not heard this?!
"An angel finally came and shut my mouth".
I love it. Probably not what most people expected, but it's just beautiful.
this is awesome. David Berman never fails to impress
Really sweet to hear them honour him on their new album.

how do you feel now, one week before the official release of Wildflower?
This is on Saturday Night Inside Out :3
Avalanches sampled themselves so that they can be sampled whilst they're sampling
Lol
They actually got him to re record this I believe as it doesn't sound exactly the same
@@JamieRobert_ No it's the same There is just a couple lines cut out

my heart, my soul, my chest
Been far too long. guys. This is the perfect way to return, most beautiful thing I've heard since Fleet Foxes' Lorelei.
avalanches need to make another new album just to accompany this single track.
If anyone has the lyrics to this poem, that would be awesome. I can't stop listening to this.
if you release a new album I swear it will be the best thing ever.

Wow. Never thought these would collaborate. Wonderful.
fucking beautiful, It makes me shed tears near the end.
love how the music wants to break free behind the talking, not long now!!
God I fucking miss David Berman.
RIP
Not many songs can get me to cry.
I'm crying a bit right now that was so good
I like this a lot.
Its a demo. And its still better than anything anyone else is doing right now.
Berman is back!
beautiful
The music in the background was beautiful, I wish it was louder
Shi is making me cry man

0:38 perfect use of Bob James - Sign Of The Times!
Speculation says this February of 2014. We can only hope.
I prefer this version. DCB sounds unfamiliar on the album song.
Agree.
Also, the instrumental fits the tone better I feel
It's almost been a year since this was released and there still hasn't been any news of a second album? Bummer.
worth the wait :)
hey i was scrolling through the comments and saw this. u seem like a cool guy?

APPARENTLY, though we've been lead to believe other rumors as well, the new album is supposed to drop 2014. HERE'S HOPING.
I've heard the same, lets all hold hands and hope.

Was this demo just released via TH-cam? Avalanches just wanted to use this vocal part for something on Wildflower?
I'd rather hear it w/out The Avalanches tbh.
