Love a woman with power tools that knows how to use them. 🤠👍
A thought came to mind the other day. Insurance on the cargo trailer, If you have Insured it as a cargo trailer off of the price you paid remember that is all the insurance company will pay you. All this additional work and expense to build it out is not covered unless you declare it. Of course the premium will go up, but then you've been ripped off once already.

Ive not yet found windows I want or like. also, I don't have money to buy windows at this point. I did buy insulation several months ago when I had money and was living in Florida so needed the insulation out of Dougs storage and not hauling it around. figure it would be best to install all insulation now and once I have windows I can pull it out to fit the windows. I'm planning to run power in front of insulation but behind shiplap strips which will be the final finish (much like I did in my step van)

I have binge watched many of these cargos build trailers (as I have my own to do) but I am not sure that the insulating is being done correctly on the builds.
All so far have filled in the gaps between the metal uprights with the insulating material as it seems the obvious and easiest way to do it........but is it correct?
This is how I envisaged it prior to watching any videos -
    1. leave the 25mm gap from the aluminum skin to the inside of the uprights as an air gap to help with the insulating and moisture prevention properties
    2. install some sound deadening on the panels
    3. install a vapor barrier across the front of the uprights leaving the 25mm air gap
    4. install 25mm wooden battens horizontally over the vapor barrier and also giving a thermal barrier
    5. lay the foam insulating board between the battens and over the vapor barrier
    6. then install your choice of wall material e.g. ply or pine boards etc
I realize this will add weight and you lose another 50mm of internal width, but if you don't do it this way aren't you compromising the majority of your R insulation rating and losing a vapor barrier?
Open for suggestions / corrections.......as its better and cheaper to get it right the first time.

Wow so the trailer isnt square and the metal studs are random widths apart. You would think for as expensive as they are they would be built better and have better quality control

    • @ronjclm8590
      @ronjclm8590 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Yes....the excuse that "it's just a cargo trailer so this is to be expected" is asinine. I've bought several enclosed car haulers in the last 30 years. Mine had decent welds and everything was square. I always ordered them with a thicker exterior wall, and 2-7,000lb axles Many do appear to be crappy these days. 99% of what they stock on a sales lot is light duty garbage. Renown knew what he was doing with it. having gaps between the frame and the exterior siding (earlier video) was totally unacceptable. The last one I bought and needed immediately. I settled for things that I really didn't like. But it was the only brand that had the right size and didn't look like junk. It was all aluminum and cost twice the money of a base/crap model the same size. But long term, it's a bargain. 7's trailer is going to be a very heavy trailer. I'd have to use a F450/550 to pull that.

@@Cesium67 I've seen videos of trailers being built. They were in a huge hurry and couldn't possibly do a quality job at that rate. I would expect the builder to have a large jig set up to line everything up square quickly.

Listen to what u just said I woke up Becky in Bed and tell me that Doesn't sound funny it Confused me because I thought u had separate rooms, Here's thought ask a neighbor if they have a truck they will sell u Thats what my Dad (not blood related to him or to My Mom) did when he needed a car Also I recommend u put a Kill Switch in the New truck that way Thieves womt get away and have something installed that locks them inside until Police arrive. and make sure there is an Alarm on it and a tracker. I know it will get pricey but it might help in the long run

Let the insurance have it. For all you know, whomever stole it also dumped sugar into the oil and/or fuel tank, and maybe even ran it that way, just for meaness. It's totally suspect vehicle now, don't trust anything on it as being OK.

A well built cargo trailer is MUCH more structurally sound than a camping trail, and each accessory is the cheapest equipment that the manufacturer can source. Fine, perhaps for random trips, but not for year round living.
