it's kinda depressing that the best looking Sonic game is still Unleashed. I mean, I'm really happy that the gameplay got back on track, but the visuals took a downgrade...
To be fair, Unleashed was pushing the bar a bit TOO hard with it's graphics. It had some noticeable performance issues that were ironed out by the tweaks found in Generations that, yeah, involved cutting the graphical effects back. Sonic Forces is using a Hedgehog Engine 2.0 though and it's looking to be even better than Unleashed was.

@Funnel Star Forces has incredible looking lighting, reflections and bloom, the particles are on point, it can render environments of such scope that trying to back-port them to something like Generations makes the engine cry like a baby. The real thing holding HE2 back is the unoriginal, drab environment design. Can't really let things shine when you're stuck in Sandy Green Hill or Dank Chemical Plant. Metropolis, Sunset Heights and Mystic Jungle are where the engine REALLY shines.

I find it really badass everytime sonic turns super sonic. He doesn’t just instantly turn super sonic, we see the beauty of the magical chaos emeralds surround him, hyping up tension. Then boom, he’s transformed yellow 🤩 Like, everytime the chaos emeralds appear, that’s when you know, sonic is going super sonic 🔥
I feel like the transformation at 5:18 would’ve had more of an impact on the player if he didn’t say anything, or at least not anything snarky like he usually does. It’s supposed to be a climactic moment, not a punchline. 😳
I know everyone loves the Sonic Adventure 2 transformation, and while I think it’s awesome, I really love the Sonic Rush transformation. Something about it is just so cool.
I didn’t know how the Chaos Emeralds worked when I was a little kid, so I always thought that Sonic chose the yellow Emerald to give him flight capabilities and fire powers in Sonic Unleashed, and always thought “Wait what other powers can he have?” I later realized that all 7 gave him the powers and was largely disappointed.
I hate most Sonic games that only allow you to play as Super Sonic in the final levels. I like most Sonic games that allow you to go Super or Hyper anytime you wish like in Sonic 2 (Standalone), Knuckles in Sonic 2, Sonic 3 (Standalone), Sonic & Knuckles (Standalone), Sonic 3 & Knuckles/Sonic 3 Complete, Sonic 4 (Episodes 1 and 2), Sonic Mania and vice versa. Transforming anytime you wish is what makes a Sonic the Hedgehog game really fun, exciting, easier and less stressful.
Well in Adventure's case, it was more because they couldn't figure out how to get Super SOnic to function in a 3D space in a way that both reflected his powers and was easily controlled, SA2 was going to have Super Sonic and Super shadow as 2P Race Mode characters, but ended up not doing it for whatever reason, Sonic Heroes...I don't know about because they play literally the same as in normal gameplay. I'm guessing it wasn't even a thought for Shadow, 2K6 was going to make Super Sonic unlockable through a Rainbow gem, but like all the other things they had planned for the game it was all swept under the rug so that they could get it out for Christmas and in Sonic Unleashed I'm guessing it was the same thing as Shadow where it wasn't even a thought. For Advanced and Rush I'm guessing they kept the super forms to the final story simply to keep Sonic from being overpowered compared to the others.
As much as the game as a whole was just ok, the one at the beginning cutscene of Unleashed always looked incredible to me, and it still does 11 years later

I find it really badass everytime sonic turns super sonic. He doesn’t just instantly turn super sonic, we see the beauty of the magical chaos emeralds surround him, hyping up tension. Then boom, he’s transformed yellow 🤩
Like, everytime the chaos emeralds appear, that’s when you know, sonic is going super sonic 🔥

I know everyone loves the Sonic Adventure 2 transformation, and while I think it’s awesome, I really love the Sonic Rush transformation. Something about it is just so cool.
I wish Sonic's fur would smootly fade to yellow like in the classic games instead of just instantly model swapping to yellow.

I didn’t know how the Chaos Emeralds worked when I was a little kid, so I always thought that Sonic chose the yellow Emerald to give him flight capabilities and fire powers in Sonic Unleashed, and always thought “Wait what other powers can he have?” I later realized that all 7 gave him the powers and was largely disappointed.

I hate most Sonic games that only allow you to play as Super Sonic in the final levels. I like most Sonic games that allow you to go Super or Hyper anytime you wish like in Sonic 2 (Standalone), Knuckles in Sonic 2, Sonic 3 (Standalone), Sonic & Knuckles (Standalone), Sonic 3 & Knuckles/Sonic 3 Complete, Sonic 4 (Episodes 1 and 2), Sonic Mania and vice versa. Transforming anytime you wish is what makes a Sonic the Hedgehog game really fun, exciting, easier and less stressful.
Not only that but these let you learn the controls earlier and at a better pace.
Well in Adventure's case, it was more because they couldn't figure out how to get Super SOnic to function in a 3D space in a way that both reflected his powers and was easily controlled, SA2 was going to have Super Sonic and Super shadow as 2P Race Mode characters, but ended up not doing it for whatever reason, Sonic Heroes...I don't know about because they play literally the same as in normal gameplay. I'm guessing it wasn't even a thought for Shadow, 2K6 was going to make Super Sonic unlockable through a Rainbow gem, but like all the other things they had planned for the game it was all swept under the rug so that they could get it out for Christmas and in Sonic Unleashed I'm guessing it was the same thing as Shadow where it wasn't even a thought. For Advanced and Rush I'm guessing they kept the super forms to the final story simply to keep Sonic from being overpowered compared to the others.

As much as the game as a whole was just ok, the one at the beginning cutscene of Unleashed always looked incredible to me, and it still does 11 years later
