However, a message in such fragmentary form is, if not impossible to decipher, then ambiguous, and potentially offensive, if interpreted as camouflaged profanity., which I regret to inform you , is the conclusion I have drawn.
Perhaps you’ll examine and make appropriate revisions. Most are incapable of processing such ideas without catastrophic results beyond anything anyone could even comprehend.
I beseech you to take corrective measures before irreversible tragedy consumes us all-. For others, lacking my wisdom and courageous self control, are bound to overreact.
We’re all counting on you to uphold the righteous standards of decency that our great nation depends on for its future, and the future of its children.

Lol, one that came to my mind was this version of "I Don't Wanna Live Forever" by Zayn & Taylor Swift I grew up with. You see, on this version I heard on this radio channel called iHeart Radio butchered a part of it when it wasn't necessary; in the "Wondering if I dodged a bullet or just lost the love of my life" bit, the part was just cut to "wondering if I dodged the love of my life" *bc even metaphors that merely feature bullets or whatever is just too much for kids Ig??* 💀
(Also, I just remembered a version of Cardi B's "Like It Like That that basically got its time cut in half due to censoring & this song called "I Can't Keep My Hands to Myself" that had the term j...ning juice reversed. They just took that term, they reversed the clips, & put it back in. Why tf were these songs even put onto the radio channel if they needed to be goofed up like this??)

This was done because it genuinely would offend elderly customers & conservative parents to hear rap music in public.
Regardless, I would just think of it as "I am removing a black artist from a chart song" and the worst part is I would then have to remove the artist from the metadata because there would be no need for royalty proceeds to go toward an artist that was no longer on the song.

One of my most hated clean versions would have to be the radio version of Janie's Got a Gun, replacing the lyric "She had to take him down easy and put a bullet in his brain" with "She had to take him down easy and left him in the pouring rain".
It not only felt much less powerful, but made me realise how absolutely GARBAGE radio censorship is. They censor swear words and even VIOLENCE, but they allow overtly sexual songs like "Body Like a Back Road" and "Side to Side" to play with no censorship other than the swear words!? Hell, even the lyric "Until you disappeared with him to have sex, of course" from Ed Sheeran's "Don't" is FULLY UNCENSORED!
FFS, radio stations, BE MORE CONSISTENT! Either censor EVERYTHING that kids shouldn't be hearing, or censor NOTHING at all. If you're going to bowdlerise the violence in songs like "Janie's Got a Gun", then you shouldn't be letting songs full of sometimes OBVIOUS sexual innuendo play on your station!!!

Lmao, reminds me of these iHeart Radio versions of 3 songs that weirded me out when I was younger. The 1st one was "I Don't Wanna Live Forever" by Taylor Swift & ZAYNE; they cut out the word bullet from the term "dodged a bullet" for some reason, so the lyric is just "Not sure if I dodged - the love of my life."
The 2nd is this song called "I Can't Keep My Hands to Myself", which I don't remember too well outside of a sexual term with the word juice in it getting reversed & I think the word sex or some other term got reversed. I'm wondering why tf you would even let that song air on there if it's that sexual.
Oh, & the 3rd & final one is Cardi B's "Like It Like That" bc I distinctly remember my mom asking why the song was even on there due to the part of the dude who was featured got cut out, leaving the song cut in half.
TL;DR: iHeart Radio was/is kinda stupid w/ song censorship, lmfao.

Censorship of music isn't a moral issue, it's a money issue.
The buying power of prudes is strong enough to make 1984 replacement of words happen.

Regarding the comment that recommended California Gurls:
It IS still a thing. Just as a few examples:
They play Cheap Thrills without Sean Paul
    They play Enemy without J.I.D.
And every Maroon 5 song with a guest rapper save for Beautiful Mistakes is losing the rap verse.
I even heard a version of Bring Me To Life that had no male vocals. Like WTF

I’m surprised Killing In the Name Of wasn’t an example. A radio station neared me played it once and it just completely cut out the whole ending. I don’t think you can ruin a song more than that

There's actually a Radio Disney version of Maroon 5's "This Summer" too - "This summer's gonna hurt, GONNA HURT, aha...aha"
In fact, if you wanna hear more, er, interesting clean versions, Radio Disney is quite the rabbithole to go down.

I think a lot of these songs came about, at least the ones that weren’t released as singles, because of Walmart’s old policy on not carrying “parental advisory” CDs. I think a lot of labels at that point in time would just automatically release a clean version of the entire album with little to no input from the artists themselves, just because Walmart was by far the largest retailer, whereas now the only reason I can think of to censor your song is to get on the radio.

  • @TheJJStrife

I think my favorite worst clean/radio version of a song is "Boom Boom Pow" by Black Eyed Peas where, along with the routine censoring any swearing in the song, they censor the word "satellite" in satellite radio, just because satellite radio exists.

Re-recording entire songs with 90% alternate lyrics was pretty common place for hip-hop for the 80's & 90's. My Name Is came at the tail end of that practice from record companies.
