I’m a barber with 5 years of experience. I decided to cut my hair for the first time the other day. I did a 2 on top with skin tapers on the side and back. Yo that shit is hard lol it took me forever to taper the back. Fading looking at the mirror is like doing it all backwards. It was tough man so props to you.
For real tho same it took me forever one time to do that.
I’m not a barber at all but I was tired of paying 25$ for a cut so I tried the same haircut the other day and it was rough lol. I would give it like a 5 out of 10 but it was free and now I know what not to do when I try next time
Keep cuttinrg it took me like 3-4 months to really get use to it , i jus taper the sides i be to lazy to do my back 😂
I've been cutting my own hair and fading for over 20 years...it does take practice - but most important is confidence in yourself...just go for it...hair grows back and each time you learn more...good luck my brotha!
Honestly, it's super easy. It's just takes practice, I first learned to cut hair, by cutting my hair first a couple of times. Now it's no big deal, did take much longer at first, but with practice, you get faster and feel confident doing it.

@@charlesc4709 whats wild is it used to take me like 4 fuckin hours lol then started taking an hour but now back to 3 hours. I just got the self cut system tho so it should cut the time down alot. I just spend way too much time on the guidelines. Its like since I cut it every week, the hair doesnt grow back fully so some of the guidelines are hard to see.

i was suppose to go to larrys barber college but when i got out the hit me wit that G.E.D crap so i just went about my bidness and got a job doing something else im hispanic and can cut any type of hair meaning any race it is wat it is man

I cut my hair myself for 2 years now, when I started it was really hard to have a decent fade, then a good fade. I do it 3-4 times monthly, there is so much things to understand and lot off ways to do but when u get a good level and get your " macros " it's a real pleasure to cut own hair and do REALLY what we want and it's FREE !

Aye chris.. my name is eddie.. this my 1st time commenting on anything on TH-cam, but your video i can relate to.
1. Your cutting your own hair
2. Your skull features are similar to my own from the indents behind the ears, scar area on back of head, receding hairline,and hair texture i guess you call it.
3. The overall time consuming mirror juggling to brush if i do it at all during my self cuts.
But to be honest add another hour for my time frame in cutting my hair..
Plus i have a mirror the size of my hand to see to medicine cabinet mirror while im cutting & i know its not your mirror as you stated but my lil mirror be smudgy too n that also adds to the time framing seeing an area you wanna hit up n bam i lose it to stop n clean the mirror lol you know.
Let alone my clippers arent what someone cutting in the shop would have in their set up. I have a whal 2000 n its trimmer combo and the color coded clips. I been cutting my hair since 2008 because im a manic when it comes to my hair and i always found myself not too satisfied with barbers work on my head, nothing against them or their skill, its my own insecurities in one form or another.. 2 days ago i cut my hair again and for the first time im impressed by how my back came out considering it never comes out to even a decent fade or blend back there. Wisj i could post videos like u guys do but i don't have a camera to do that.
Im sorry im dragging it lol but like i said i never comented on anything or to anyone prior to now but just want to add along that i appreciate this self tutorial amongst your other videos cutting clients etc.
I envy you barbers because you can tell its passion when in your craft and i know you get a great feeling when your client gets up n you know their feeling the cut.. like when i cook for my family i love to see them enjoying their meal.
I wish i could be a barber but i can't afford the schooling let alone a decent set of clippers so i can make someone happy with something i enjoy deep inside you know like for me cutting me i get depressed seeing a line i cnt get out or the overall finished product on myself because i care what i feel when i see myself in the mirror what might save me a little grief would be a decent line up with the razor and a hat lol.. but anyway man, its nice watching you cut and explain things from the barber chair to expos to product reviews.. There are so many grants and subsidized loans offered to low income.. me and my wife were broke.. we just qualified for a lot of the programs.. you’ll make tips at your school and you’ll get a kit with new tools, all you need to work as a barber... if it’s something you want to do.. do it

I’m the type of guy to let my hair get long on the top like yours was cuz that’s my preferred style... tapering myself up every week cuz I gotta stay fresh. After i been rocking that look for like a month or 2 I’ll cut it back down like you did to switch it up and then grow it out again. But keeping them tapers every week is MANDO!!

get 3 - $5.00 dollar mirrors from walmart.. some cabinet hinges. Connect the mirrors together. Bamm trifold mirror. Now you can see all around your head. Hand held mirrors are too shaky, and im not paying $150 for some small mirror self cut system.
I think you should keep a fade with curls on top and keep the beard at like a 2 guard and line it up as usual

I don't do a bald fade. 1-inch guard open low as I go. Biggest issues I get with cutting my own hair is the back of my damn neck... Them hairs just grow in some swirl and I can't get my clippers to move in all those directions while looking backwards thru a mirror, thru another mirror. Tried to let my girl do a guard line for back of my head once before, ended up in trip to a barber. Can't believe she can't draw a straight line or why that is hard, but it is :P

Your hair line is fine bro my hair line receded I got thick hair on top but my hair line has gone back so I just did what you did I have a big head so I just got a buzz cut with a fade looks nice now you suit this look and your a positive guy absolutely nothing wrong with your hair line just receded a little it’s normal
