  • Listen to the Air Boss frequency during the airshow on 30 Jul 2011 at Airventure in Oshkosh, Wis. Just after the warbird extravaganza, the first act to perform was American world champion aerobatic aviator.Sean Tucker in his modified Pitts. Right after he took off, a gust front or squall line or something blew in and kicked the winds way up. The airshow was cancelled but Sean was still in the air and apparently having trouble getting down.
The exchange uploaded on our channel is about six minutes of audio & video on the Air Boss frequency with the Boss, Sean Tucker and various others battling the winds. Some of the players:
--Duggy is the DC-3 jump plane.
--Big Ford and Little Ford are the EAA Ford Tri-motors.

Showing up to Oshkosh completely unprepared is a bold choice

If anyone can land in any condition it’s, Mr. Sean Tucker and that Oracle bird. Having traveled with him for years, he is an absolute beast of a pilot.

I'm not a pilot or ATC but I just like ATC videos. I must say the ATCs for the second part of the video were very patient and helpful despite the pilot being very unprepared.

The busiest airport in the country on that day, with special procedures not in use anywhere else, and Buddy needs to be talked through it and won't believe what he's told anyway. The balls it takes to put yourself in that position instead of just landing somewhere else and getting it straightened out ahead of time.

The radio procedure in the first segment was breathtaking.
