Thanks for another great review James. I’d love for the Criterion Collection to bring out All the President’s Men as having seen all three of the paranoia trilogy, to me it is the best of the three. I was on the fence with this film but since 70s cinema is my favourite decade wise I will pick it up thanks to your great review. My favourite edition so far is Secrets and Lies which is one of my all time favourite films. Keep up the great videos James and cheers from Canada!
Hey, Matt. Cheers to you as well! I’m very much looking forward to picking up Secrets and Lies in the next sale. Let’s keep our fingers crossed for All the President’s Men to come out on Criterion. Keeping enjoying the movies up there in Canada! 🇨🇦
Good review sir. It’s my favourite film in the trilogy and for me, it’s the one that is still relevant and holds up to multiple viewings. Beatty is at his best. Another actor who is better when he’s not playing ‘himself ‘. The cinematography, interesting camera angles and a classic 70s ending make this one an essential 70s American film. Ah remember the days when Hollywood made intelligent and challenging films. Great stuff sir.
Thank you, Solitary Ronin! Appreciate the kind words. Yes, I too appreciate a film that makes you 🤔 think and ponder, and The Parallax View is one of those films.
If you enjoyed the three films you mentioned in the paranoia trilogy, I highly recommend 3 Days of the Condor (not in the Criterion Collection) which stars Robert Redford and Faye Dunaway. It was released during that same time period. Great video as always!
Joe Pendleton is my favourite Warren Beatty role. Lovely Gorgeous movie with his best pal, Jack Warden. Jack Warden from All the presiddnts men and Shampoo etc Joe Pendleton convincing Max that he is Joe Pendleton..... I tear up every time I watch that scene Lovely Lovely character
@@20thand21stMovies Your very welcome . I love Heaven Can Wait. Its a beautiful innocent gorgeous movie. And Warren Beatty and his old pal are lovely in it. Julie Christie's great too. And Dyan Cannon and Charles Grodin are Hilarious. You've got a new fan. Great review
James thanks for the video! Now I would like to have in my collection the parallax view film. I have seen only few films of Pakula like Sophie’s Choice and Pressumed Innocent .
Hello, Juan Carlos! Thanks for your comment. I have not seen Sophie’s Choice yet but want to check it out. I think Meryl Streep won her first Oscar in this one.
James! Criterion announced today that they will release The Mirror (Tarkovsky) on July 2021. It is one of my favorite films of Tarkovsky. Which films of Tarkovsky have you seen?
Occasional Feelgood, glad you’re digging the videos! Welcome to the community and look forward to hearing your thoughts on films as we continue this cinematic journey together. Keep enjoying the movies! 😀
I enjoyed this movie so much. Finished it about 3 weeks ago. And not to mention the infamous brainwashing scene is so unnerving!. Can I say the trilogy is some sort of a "pioneer" back then? As political thriller is not a common theme at that time. I'm looking forward to watching "All the President's Men" and "Klute"! Love your videos man. Cheers!
Kendri, glad you enjoyed The Parallax View as well. Now that you’ve seen that one, watching the other two films in the trilogy will be a treat. Thank you for your comments and kind words. Cheers!
Watching reviews of this movie as I’m trying to decide whether to buy it before the Barnes and Noble sale ends tomorrow. Your review is the most detailed and concise of all the many reviews I’ve watched on TH-cam today. However, I didn’t quite catch an enthusiastic “you must run out and get it today” recommendation. I didn’t know this movie was also called the paranoia trilogy. The only paranoia trilogy that I know is the one by John Frankenheimer which consists of The Manchurian Candidate, Seven Days in May, and Seconds. Two of these movies are in the Criterion catalog. You must have bought this movie as soon as it was released. Why didn’t you wait to buy the movie during the Barnes and Noble sale? You could have picked up another Criterion movie for free.
Hello, Thomas! I picked up the Parallax View in the Criterion flash sale in February (50% off) along with a few other titles. Overall I enjoyed the film and I would say if you are interested in picking it up it certainly is worth it, especially if you are a Warren Beatty fan and you are interested in Alan Pakula's filmography. This film is part of the Pakula's paranoia trilogy along with Klute and All The President's Men.

Wish Chinatown were added to the Criterion Collection. Some Hitchcock films like Vertigo and Frenzy would also be nice.
The current blu ray edition of All the President’s Men is pretty poor visually. I’d love Criterian to get that. Also, the Candidate needs a release.

Hi, Timothy. Thanks for the recommendation! 3 Days of the Condor is one I haven’t seen yet but will plan to check out (I like Redford and Dunaway).
I bought that a few years ago. Big 70’s fan. I need to rewatch it because I know I missed a lot during the first viewing. Great movie though!

Fluorosco, Heaven Can Wait is a Beatty film I have yet to see. Will need to add that one to my watchlist. Thanks for your comment and recommendation!

Mysteriously, no one involved with the Criterion version of The Parallax View was ever heard from again.
Hello, Umtata and thanks for your comment. Interesting. Any more info?
@@20thand21stMovies this comment went way over your head ahaha
I enjoy Klute, but the Parallax View not so much. There seems to be a lot of gaps and sloppy. We need an explanation video. 😂
Ha ha. I need to revisit this film as it’s been a few years since I’ve seen it.
