    Great, what a treat to watch this! One never has a chance to see how the artists study and work hard.
    A pity the ending was cut, I'd like to hear the young man sing again that bit after all that coaching.
    And what a giant artist Quastoff is!

    Fantastic clip. He is so truthful and direct without being hurtful. I imagine you'd learn so much from him. Funny too.

      on the flip side, there is a difference between being nice, and being kind. sometimes being kind means having to tell the difficult truth that others might not like to hear, but it comes from a good place that wants you to grow and improve. i like constructively critical teachers. there are sadly too many students now a days that don't know how to handle constructive criticism or even recognize it

      This dude is known to be a huge disrespectful asshole with his students in private. You can be truthful without making the audience giggle at your student.

      @@IvanIvanov-vy7pt I know too many ex students of him who's self esteem and voices were ruined personally, to believe this kinda bollocks but whatever. Every single one student who gets accepted at a school like the hans Eisler, has a good voice, talent and is passionate about music. Still having such a high quote of ruined voices just means the teachers are bad.

    Das wichtigste beim Lied ist die Geschichte und den Text beim singen selbst zu durchleben. Jede Stimmpräsentation und jede unnatürliche Technik ist fehl am Platz. Wer natürlich singt, frei von jeder Erwartung oder Vorstellung wie was klingen soll singt immer richtig. Die eigene Empfindung lügt nie, ist immer richtig und glaubhaft. Mit dem Blick als Betrachter auf das Ende der Geschichte, als Betrachter der der Sänger in diesem Lied ja ist, könnte der letzte Text "In seinen Armen, das Kind war tot" ebenso im Piano gesungen werden. Es wäre ebenso richtig. Je nachdem wie man das Ende der Geschichte selber fühlt. Soll es ein hartes lautes Ende sein? ein etwas distanziertes mit dem man schockieren will oder ist man näher dran und kann es selber kaum fassen dass das Kind tatsächlich gestorben ist. Dann fehlt jede Kraft für ein forte am Ende und es kann nur ein fassungsloses Piano sein. Jedes Lied lässt Spielraum und jeder Sänger muss seine eigene Interpretation finden. Alles andere wäre nur nachgemacht. Vom eigenen Gefühl heraus zu singen ist der richtige Weg.

    Das interpretiert wohl jeder anders. Technische Vorgaben ja, aber eine Kopie zu verlangen, von dem was man selbst richtig findet, kann es auch nicht sein.

    il maestro e' semplicemente ridicolo .
    prima di tutto Quasthoff deve mostrare à questo bravo ragazzo come appoggiare la sua giovane voce per trovare la posizione giusta !
    e' ovvio che questo ragazzino conosce poco la base della tecnica, e' un fatto.
    cosa fa Quasthoff ?
    per quale ragione artistica il maestro non dice niente sull'impostazione giusta della voce ?
    per la semplice ragione che il maestro conosce poco la base del canto lirico .
    in questo caso Quasthoff doveva mostrare à questo bravo ragazzo come cercare e sopratutto come trovare la posizione alta nella voce !
    la prima cosa che deve fare un maestro e' di mostrare la strada giusta al giovane cantante!
    per quale ragione Quasthoff non parla mai dell'impostazione e dei dettagli tecnici allegati con la posizione alta della voce ?
    la risposta giusta si trova à 0:10 - 0:12 dove due secondi per capire questo signore conosce poco la base della tecnica .
    un professionista non grida,non urla mai !
    un professionista vero canta non abbandonando mai il controllo assoluto sulla propria vocalità e la bellezza unica della propria voce .
    cosa avevo detto ?
    ''bellezza'' ?
    una parola sconosciuta per il maestro assente del suo vocabolario ...
    questa ''lezione'' e' del tempo sprecato per questo bravo ragazzo.
    questa e' la scuola ''moderna'' di canto lirico ?!...
    del Lieder ?!...
    di cosa ?
    e' la scuola ''moderna'' di niente .
    o tempora o mores .

      Penso che sia per ragione che cantano un’opera dell’arte tedesca... La loro scuola di canto è in molte parti diversa da quella italiana.
      Secondo me, va finire questa storia con molta effusione, il meno come fece DFD. La maniera di Quasthoff mi sembra sbagliata... Nonostante che sia un maestro grandissimo!))
      P.S. D’accordo che urlare come fa QT (0:10) non è un’idea brillante, pero a volte penso che ci si può lasciare)
