    #1 Rule of cable management: As soon as you get everything perfect, you get new consoles.

      Modular future planning is more important than some people think....only solution is to keep gaming goals in mind with future purchases. Example being my sega console section has no space for a saturn and a sega cd because i have no plans on buying these however i do plan on buying a ps5 in the future and eventually getting an xbox one so i have a future space planned for each console in its appropriate section. Also i have coordinating spots for each systems games currently held by empty game related boxes until the space is needed. I prefer the focus of my console area to be mostly games, consoles, controllers, and audio equipment and less on empty display boxes. So if you see boxes in my setup they are very likely placeholders.

      @@kirksarcade1836 excellent ideas here! I really like how yoive layed out a great plan for your current and future game room! I may bring these ideas up as options foe people when going into the planning aspects of a room. I am trying to plan when I do things like cord mamagement. I have systems in 3 locations and each section can be easily moved. I want to be able to change whatever I do and keeping it modular is very helpful!

    Love this! I'm getting new Shelves soon and this came at the perfect time. The one cord management thing I use is for the ones that are stored away. I found that ziplock bags are perfect to throw cords into that way when they are in the drawers they never tangle. If you get large enough bags you can bundle the cords by system. This also makes it so you dont have to worry about what to wrap the cords in like rubber bands or so on. Bonus also keeps the dust off spare controllers.

    Great video. I’m a huge fan of cable management. A bit of advise: although It’s not necessary, unless you’re getting audio or video interference, but you can take this to the next level by routing all power cables together, all signal cables together, and all data cables together. Essentially doing your best to minimize RF interference and signal cross talk. I route my power cables along the bottom of my entertainment center, data in the middle, and signal on top.

    I would say that attaching length(s) of 2x4's to the back of the tv stand might give a better structure to mount power supplies and maybe be able to use more substantial cable clips (coax cable clips that can be tacked/screwed to wall come to mind).

    Amazing Work! Love cable management! Great use of the space you have. Love the PVM placement.
    Don't forget you can paint the cable hiders the same color as the wall to better hide them.
    The residue of the double sided tape can be removed with goofoff.
    I wish that you would use a individually switched power management surge suppressor. Leaving all those systems plugged in generates heat and the power drain can increase your power bill. You are definitely not making a fire hazard with your current setup, but if you move up to 30 or more systems you may need to consider power management.
    With the side shelves I would have attempted to make the autonomous with their own surge protector and a single video (HDMI, Composite, Component, etc.) hookup coming in. This way you would only have to unplug 2 things to move the entire shelf if needed.
    You should always try to put some sort of label on the cables to know what is what. It helps in troubleshooting things.
    Beautiful dog BTW.

    • @DiskCart
      @DiskCart  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      the cables are labeled, one of the side shelves is on its own power source completely the other is only half. the cable hiders match the baseboard and general esthetics of my setup so i left them alone as well. as for having only one connector for the video hookups to go to the tv that would be heavily convuluded and only add to the amount of cables and connectors id need. the entire shelf can move 4 feet from the wall if needed by detaching the wall cover. the one on the left can completely disconnect easily. And possibly the most dangerous thing to have anywhere near gaming stuff is goof off. I have watched it literally eat through plastics instantly. having been in retro and modern gaming for a long time I am aware it can be used safely along with goo gone and a few other safer options. One thing you said that is confusing to me is that having the systems plugged in generates heat? where is that heat? the strip is cool and the systems are cool? The other factor is that the left side of everything is on a power outlet that is regulated by a wall light switch So unless im in there the pvm, nes record player and switch are not plugged in. Ill need to look up this supressor thing because ive never heard of that before sounds interesting to me. however theres no heat in that room from any of the systems until i turn them on at this time. let me know your thoughts.

    • @moandaindesigns
      @moandaindesigns 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @cryoweasel 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DiskCart Just tightening the cables is a good enough reason to use them. Loose cables are just what those little "back of the TV gnomes" need to tangle all your cords! It has all the ports on the back which is very nice and is a solid metal design with a physical button. also has a remote that works well which can be a hard thing to find in these. supposedly support 4k but i do not know since i use it for a 1080p tv. www.amazon.com/dp/B07GGT7SZD/ref=cm_sw_r_tw_dp_U_x_7uj8CbC2DDND3

      Outside of game room ideas Id like to do reviews on physical items like controllers/retro systems/new retro games/possibly switch games. The ones i wouldn't expect would be the reviews on switch games and other games. Its dog eat dog out there for those things and my time is so little nowadays I have to make sure I make videos that I enjoy, subscribers enjoy, and help to grow the channel. I did like doing switch reviews a lot as a supplement to the channel too! What would you like to see on the channel in addition to gameroom ideas? Im always open to ideas and write them down!

      @@DiskCart One type of video I love to watch are buying guides for older systems. I like to get a feel of everyone's top games so I know what I should be looking for, or at least point me in the correct direction. These are very popular too with more and more people coming into the collecting scene.
      Something I really think is lacking would be a GOOD video on how to get the best picture out of your older system. Metal Jesus does a good job, but he is the only one because all the others lack quality and content.

    Awesome and helpful video, but there's one small question that if you don't mind answer that got me thinking.
    Do you think its best to put a game room in a larger area like a living room or a basement, instead of a bedroom like what I'm doing?

    • @DiskCart
      @DiskCart  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      More area is always beneficial to spread out in. But that doesn't mean a bedroom can't be fantastic too. In smaller spaces having less out can really make it feel better overall where as in a basement or larger room like a livingroom the extra space makes it so you could potentially have everything out .

    Hey man, your channel is awesome and gives so many ideas! Can I ask a question please? I’m in the UK, how do you manage all the different console inputs? I’m looking for a splitter or source selector that will manage what I want, but I’m struggling with what to use as I’m unsure how people use something like a Dreamcast with an RF lead in the same box as a a PS2 for example with composite cables. Cheers man!

    • @DiskCart
      @DiskCart  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You 100% will find bad adhesive backed clips. Its important to not give up and simply apply another adhesive if you need to. Humidity and heat can absolutely make weak adhesive pop off super fast. 3m is pretty much THE brand to trust but they have many tiers of adhesive all the way to "not coming off aaaah" level of stickyness. The little ones i ise for behind my shelves came with a pretty decent tape to begin with so so far so good.

    do you have a video on video cable hubs or tips? like how to manage multiple component type systems to a tv? reviewing HDMI hub converters seem hit or miss, and the most sure approach is keep video types as is, so component to component hub then to tv. don’t add HDMI to the equation. but then i need to change input on tv. thanks again for the video!

    Do you have a video showing how to connect classics like NES, SNES, N64, to a modern smart tv??? I’m stuck I have a Sony x900h for the game room and I want to connect those consoles to it but I don’t know what I need to convert those signals into the modern HDMI tv inputs..

    • @DiskCart
      @DiskCart  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The cheapest and BEST way to get lag free connection to a modern tv is by using a retrotink. www.retrotink.com/ These are outstanding and give you a clean signal and upscale to your tv. Really dang good. If you only get one of their retro tink 2x models it can be a pain to switch out cords ect between many consoles so some people get a switcher for component cables or whichever you have and then run that into the retro tink. Now for my personal setup I am all over the place. I have an eon hd mk 2 for my game cube. I play snes and genesis on the modern analogue fpga systems, my n64 and nes have a retrotink 2x, and my ps2 has one of the cheap hdmi connectors you can find on amazon (not the best but works). I in no way ama plethora of knowledge of this stuff and I highly recommend my friends over at MyLifeInGaming. their channel has all the possibilities and a really balanced look at the pros and cons . They also recommend the retro tink and I can agree that its amazing. hope that helps!

    I have alot of cords behind my cube shelf

    • @DiskCart
      @DiskCart  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This situation is even harder. But I think for that I would attach a backing to a portion of the shelf. it doesnt have to be permenant or screwed in (though it would be stronger) but you could use foam core board and attach it with strong tape or even command strips or velcro command strips (a lot of them) then you would have a spot to hang cords or hide them. alternatively just placing items in the spots you run the cords and conceal them pretty well. Its almost an art form figuring this stuff out so if you do go for it just take your time and have fun with it. I spent around 3 weeks testing and failing. many a tape residue and failed idea! but im happy with where i ended up!

      Lol been down that road before. Can work for maybe a smaller cord but multiple made it eveventually open itself. The whole tube does have pressure from the elastic pulling on it. So now I just follow maufacturers recommendations to cut a hole especially when its out of sight like this one was.

      lol I just put the ideas out there for people. The mission for my personal setup was to hide the cables and keep them from sight. There's always room for improvement on these things. Making sure every cable was able to be individually removed was well more than enough as a bonus. I guess if I spent a lot of time looking at the backside of the stand I might try a few things but even with more time you become tethered to the lengths of the cords you have and your personal placement of consoles, switchers, adaptors ect. there are only so many things you can do without leaning heavily on dangerous alternatives like extension cords. Would love to see what you come up with though feel free to @ me on twitter or instagram with your setup. Might even show up in a future video.
