Riding our motorcycle into Alaska was NOT what we expected || Pan-American Motorcycle Diaries

  • In this video we ride our motorcycle from Whitehorse, Yukon to Tok, Alaska. Many have warned that this road is difficult, possibly even dangerous. We love a good challenge, so we took on the adventure to see if the Alaskan Highway is as awesome as it seems to be. What we experienced was that the road was more difficult (for us and the bike) on the Canadian side due to the snow heaves and sudden bumps that would cause us to bottom out. However, on the Alaskan side there were more potholes but we could get past them because we were on two wheels so this was easier. Whenever we talked to people in an RV or with a trailer they would tell you that the Canadian side was better and the Alaskan worse because they couldn't dodge the potholes like we could. If you have any questions about the road, leave a comment below!

    Hey everyone! For some reason some parts of the audio get REALLY loud for no reason and we cant figure out why or how to fix it. Sorry! Learning new stuff every day and always aiming to be better! Much love.

    Loved your ride. Yall's freshness and optimistic chatter is a joy to hear. I've taken the Alcan twice up and back from Louisiana and am planning on it one more time. K

      We loved it too! Can't wait to get back there and do the north as it's own trip.
      And we didn't stop at liard hotsprings that day. It was pouring down rain and really crowded. But we will go when we head up there again!

    Tok is pronounced Tok as in taking a Tok of Mary Jane.

      We did not, we passed it as we were outrunning a thunderstorm and didn't have time, sadly! Check out our "thunderstorm" video to see the crazy day we had.

    Snow heave, never head of the term, perhaps the frost is lifting the road beds causing the "speed bumps". Black top in pours thus the potholes, however, is more forgiving to movement and repairs than concrete. Did you ever think that Canada roads you rode up on were futher south and in less harsh environments.

      Really? We only heard people refer to them that way! All I know is they are a pain in the ass 😂

      "Frost heave" is a common term in other areas.

    How do you record audio from the helmets to the video

    • @2uptravels
      @2uptravels  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We use rodes wireless go mic 2 and have the mics wirelessly hooked up to our insta 360 camera on the front. From there I just clip the audio in and out or overlay GoPro footage.

    Is Calcium chloride the name of the other chemical you were thinking of?

    • @2uptravels
      @2uptravels  ปีที่แล้ว

      It probably was. We talked to a construction worker about it passively and then by the time we made this video I forgot exactly what it was called.

    Why Triumph? I was thinking peopel would do this on a honda or something more dependable?

    • @2uptravels
      @2uptravels  ปีที่แล้ว

      I suppose there's lots of reasons to choose or not choose a Honda for this sort of trip. We needed a big bike since there are two of us so money played a large factor into our final decision. For what we wanted/needed the tiger fit the bill. Sure we could have gotten a large Honda ADV bike but it would have cost us more. Fortunately, there are plenty of reputable shops all throughout central and South America that can get parts and work on all sorts of bikes. However, just because lots of people ride Hondas down here doesn't mean there will be parts for your bike if it breaks down. Parts for larger bikes can be hard to come by regardless of the model. If Meghan wasn't on this trip with me I would probably done it on a small Honda. Something 250 or smaller. Easier to manage, parts are easier to come by!
