I enjoyed seeing the mansion…thanks for giving us a tour too! It’s so nice that you are able to have your aunt and uncle on board…I’m sure they enjoyed their time with you all! Thanks for another great video! Safe travels!
That mansion is so beautiful! I would love to play tennis or swim in the pool there. And how cool that y’all were the only ones there! 🙌🏼 Love seeing (and hearing) the bug zapper at work! 😂 No seeum killaaaaaa!
Just spent two nights there last year about this time. We camped at Yankee Paradise (walked to the beach every night) Area and went to Plumb Orchard for fresh water and the view.
I love my bug zapper, best boat entertainment there is going. I wait till they have been drawn to the overhead light and then just get the show on. No-see-ums can go right though a lot of window screens. Great tour and editing was spot on.
For those cruisers contemplating a stop at Plum Orchard, the anchorage nearby IS NOT in a Georgia protected shellfish “no anchoring” area. The tour of the Plum Orchard Mansion should not be missed. I find it way better than the ruins of Dungeness on the south end of the island. I don’t know if your tour guide mentioned this, but the Plum Orchard Mansion had a DC electrical system designed by Thomas Edison in operation until 1969.
@@SchoandJo daughter played soccer against Bishop England, High School, on Daniel Island outside Charleston. Daytime, but wind stop blowing they attacked. Another mom had a little SkinSoSoft and past it around. Full bottle needed, but kept them off
@@SchoandJo Also, they're so small, not sure screens stop them. Air movement keeps them away outside. Maybe a fan blowing hard across you at night would help. Outside savannah up a shallow creek trying to catch bait with cast net, got prop stuck in old crab trap. Hanging off back of boat with pair of pliers that small cutting jaws trying to cut it loose, they ate me up. Had backwoods OFF. That worked some, but may have been because it was on so thick they got stuck or couldn't get through. LOL
You can upgrade your window screens to some with a finer mesh rated to stop no-see-ums. Most screens are just meant for flies. The problem is that as you make the holes smaller, you have to make the wire smaller or you block more light. Smaller wire means weaker screens. So you have to choose between fly screens, dark screens or weak screens.
Oh no worries Kenneth! I saw the tour when we came southbound although this was definitely the better experience with a more involved guide 😁 Thanks for the thoughts though!
Great video! This was the day our paths briefly overlapped! Pretty sure I was just off-screen a time or two there on the ancient dunes then on the dock at sunset. That beach was so great! The next evening I was absolutely the only one there. Btw, those swinging daybeds at Plumb Orchard are some of my favorite things on the island. I was reading some of the books today that I bought from the store on the mainland and learned Duck House Road is named for a house used as hunting camp the Carnegie males would go to for stag trips. I’m not exactly sure where the house was but the old photos make it look like it was in that sandy clearing back in the ancient dunes. It was also used as a Coast Watch station during World War II but unfortunately fell into disrepair and burned down in the ‘80’s. BTW, do you remember where that small boardwalk was that you show before the beach? I don’t think I found that. Happy boating, fair winds!
Hey Bricky! We did cross paths this day, thanks for saying hi!! Thanks for sharing these tips too! To get to that walk way, near the Yankee campgrounds we took the path South (?) towards the .5 miles to the non-potable water. We either took that all the way or branched off at a fork a while later towards the beach! Hopefully that helps you find it in the future 😁 Happy camping and fair no-seeums 😁
About ten miles up the road north you will find a small former African American church where John and Carolyn Bassist Kennedy were married. There is also a resident woman that lives there that worked with Jimmy Carter to help establish Cumberland Island as a National Park. This is a book written about here. Instead of using your GPS for tracks, set your Navionics to record your track. We have our tracks all the way back to 2013 when we first started cruising and they're great to refer to.

Guys, please please get a Thermacell and some refills. It stops noseeum attacks. Long time Florida cruisers here they work! I have three incase one more two die.
Awesome that y'all picked up the trash.. we do the same when we go out.👍
Beautiful island to visit....the beach at the last was really nice.
It was super chill and beautiful! Doesn't get much better than that!
Camped there a few years ago. Beautiful!!!
It really is Virginia!! Thanks for watching 😁

Seriously! That would be so fun to play tennis in 😁 The bug zappa is so. much. fun. 😂
Really enjoyed this video. Good job!
Thanks so much Anne!
Great video and thanks for picking up the trash
Thanks Maddie! Just doing our part!
Hi. My name is Blair Seward with my Admiral Liz aboard Seaward Bound. We boat out of Orillia on Lake Simcoe… loving your vlog!! Thank You!
Hi Blair! Thanks so much for following along!
Such an interesting mansion, I can’t imagine that kind of wealth. Thanks for sharing. Well, you got to work on your backhand.
Hehe if only I was a tennis player!
Love your videos. I look forward to them when I come home from work.
Thanks so much Michael - we appreciate you wcommenting!
Grat video, guys. Based on your video, I will definitely stop at Plumb Orchard when I go through this area. Thanks.
Awesome!

Wow awesome vedio they all are
Thanks so much Frank!
Great video. Thanks for showing us this hidden gem.
Thanks for watching Russ!

Thanks so much James! It's always so much fun with the zapper 😁
Nicely done. We've enjoyed Cumberland's beach each time we've anchored there - it's a gem. And re: all that trash: If you pack it in, you pack it out.
Right on! Thanks for watching Jack!

The zapper tennis racket is awesome 😎
"Mosquita Zappa" 😁
Another great video
Avon's Skin So Soft, actually does a wonderful job of keeping the NoSeeUms at bay.
Thanks John!

I feel bad that Eliot didn't get to do the tour. I love these old homes.

Super cool! Sounds like we have more to see next time! Thanks for sharing Brian
Standard window screens are great for mosquitoes, but no-see-'ems can fly/crawl right thru.
We see quite a few of them stuck in our screens so I guess it stops some but the nasty ones still find a why!
You have to have special screens to keep noseeums out regular screens the holes are too big
lol it is called glass
haha

nice vid..are you going to stop in Annapolis. ?
Thanks Lester! We hope to!
question: as you move between CG districts/coverage, do you test you SOS button on the VHF ? stay safe, Tim and Cat
Nope, actually we haven't tested that button on our VHF! I think we need to input / create our MMSI. Do y'all test that?

I think those evil little no seeums can crawl thru screens.
Thats the only logical explanation!

Redneck entertainment kit: six pack and a bug zapper 😄
