This game really taught me that world is actually not about black and white. That truth can be really complex at times, and sometimes we do hard things to protect the ones that we love. Suikoden 2 always got a special place in my heart, and im glad that my childhood where i can experience some real game.
Damn... If someone asked me why Suikoden 2 was one of the greatest JRPGs of all time, I would just show them this scene. Everything about it is perfect and captures the tone of the game. The music is hauntingly beautiful and the flashbacks evoke a wistful nostalgia. We see the beginning and growth of Jowy and Riou's friendship, the mentoring from Genkaku and the enthusiastic support from Nanami. The scene ending with Jowy and Riou enlisting in the Unicorn brigade signals not only the events that lead to the start of the war but also the start of the branching paths that each of them take
+ajbahus it's funny you say that i sent this clip to a friend just for that reason, and i agree, if you played this game in your youth, learning how the world works, then what this game teaches you about love, friendship and betrayal is really hard to rival, but i mean look at the origin of suikoden, greatest upon itself, shui hu zhuan
Thank you, Yoshitaka Murayama, for creating this beloved RPG for us, especially the fans of the series. We'll never forget this masterpiece any longer. Rest in peace.
doomscyte No need to get defensive. :) I love the AC series (up until AC3, anyway). AC2 and Suikoden 1 and 2 will always be among my favorite games... I know just how shitty new games can be, but I dare you to go play new indie games. Fuck the mainstream. If you want emotion and storytelling, go for To The Moon, go for Bastion, go for Braid. There are many more, these are just on the top of my head right now. :)
Understatement. It's one of those games that you play and never forget. Final Fantasy was great, Xenogears superb, Chrono Trigger was epic, Secret of Mana was special. But in 40 years time I will still look back on Suikoden II as the game that mattered.
i'm pretty sure that a few people in this world have felt the same as me with this game... every time i listen this song, every time i play it, every time i think about the storyline, every time i listen crickets singing at night (right now) i remember the beggining of this game at youth brigade camp.. this is more than a game for some people i think, like an excellent movie.. i want to play it again when i'm ready enough to revive that vague memory. thanks for sharing man, this is masterpiece
As you could have guessed, I already played to this game quite a few time, and even said 3 years ago that it was my favourite game, and to be honest, it still is today. This game definitely marks the mind of any player who finished it (at least twice) ;) Good day to you, sir :) (PS: Scroll down and you'll see my very first comments, and the replies of the youtuber, who advised me to play on emulator for this version of Reminiscence )
lol sorry misunderstood xd and for a moment that youtuber i tough it was me since i have tried to tempt ppl play it with emulator xd i have play it 7 times or more my top 1 game by far before that it was ff8 i was new to rbg back then there is some other great ones not as great and since it you have a good taste i reccoment them to you to play them with emulator suikoden 3 and 5 (the theater of 3 was tonn fun for me) legend of dragoon crono cross ff8 xenogears and others if you want recommedation tell me tried everything from all consoles with emulator or not xd
No problem, it's fine! *spoilers* I meant at least two so you get the two endings (not including the one where you escape with Nanami after the zombies attack in Tinto) but honestly I needed to play more to get everything for my castle XD (I was obsessed with it) and also for Clive's side quest and the Mukumukus (flying squirrels) FF8 was my first "true" JRPG (I don't think we call call pokemon a "true JRPG" lol) but my all time favourite is FF6 :p As for Xenogears...just look at my name XD I would advise you Grandia, Wild Arms, Lunar (Silver Star Story), Chrono Trigger(you played Chrono Cross so you should know that one :p) and the Tales of series (Tales of Phantasia, Tales of Destiny, Tales of Vesperia, etc) The Dragon Quest series are also nice. Also Star Ocean 1 (didn't play to the second one) and Star Ocean: The Last Hope... Oh and Lost Odyssey was nice too! But yeah if you have some recommendation, feel free to tell me ;)
well i have played all those itold you itries eveything almost last story of will is good needs emulator with good cpu to run it tho star ocean 2 was by far the best start ocean legend of dragoon is magical like very few like ff 7 or 8 or more try also suikoden 3 and 5 on emulator personal 4 very difrent style but still ps2 emulator runs good psp emulator and gamecube drams cast from dreamcast skies of arkadia and shammue 1 and 2 radiata stories breath of fire 3 squaresoft front mission 2 and 3
Pro Tip: You begin the game with 200 potch and get 250 potch per battle prior to the color intro. 250 potch x 108 battles = 27,000 potch + 200 starting potch. Add another 250 potch from the previous battle where you first met prince Luca and when you get to 27,450 potch you'll know that you've fought exactly 108 battles on the hill. Additionally you'll be on level 11 with 704 exp. Easiest way to get to 108 without having to keep count. Enjoy!

That piece of art made me cry each time I listen to it. I know all tastes are in music but I even don't understand that two people could possibly dislike this. Heartless.
that's true, i will hold this scenes and music all my life i believe because also it's part of my childhood. yes i have the game and emulator to play on PC but i want the time go by a little so i play this when i'm older and remember this strong feelings. again, thanks for sharing you're great man. Suiko forever
I haven’t even played this game, but I’ve always loved this song. And now I’m watching this montage and my eyes are tearing like I understand what’s happening lol I can just tell it’s sad tho
Try play the game.. Suikoden 2.. You will be know why we tearing.. Im now 30 but still crying ever i hear this song.. I miss my childhood.. And miss my lil brother.. We play this game together..
Wow, what a nostalgic trip down memory lane! The effort you put into obtaining this scene really paid off, and it's amazing to see it in color. The dedication and patience you showed in fighting the Highlands 108 times truly paid off. Keep up the great work on your channel, wladarthvader!
Play this every few years just to get out of "pc master race" games once in a while. It's like saying hello too a dear old friend. For me Suikoden II is the best JPRG... if not, the best game I have ever played.
Yep, that's spot on, I get why you used the movie comparison. Hope we can live in a future where more and more people are able to have that connection with games! And I think we are actually, slowly as it may be. :)
I still remember. Working on this was boring(the fights just ended so quickly) but it was so rewarding after you made it and see this for the first time in color. It was just... one of the magical moments of this game.
As the video description says, you can obtain it by beating the Highland soldiers 108 times. It's when Jowy asks you to jump down into the river. If you keep saying "No", Rowd comes with more soldiers. Do this 108 times, and you're set. :) It might take a while, around an hour or so - but if you have an emulator with save states, it will help to save and continue sometime else... Enjoy! Suikoden 1 and 2 are among my favorite games, I still love 'em... Amazing stuff. :)
i remember doing this in my playstation and you missclicked at 90 something x'D Got an original Copy of this game and the first in a glass box at home with locks on and it only opens when i get sick of todays games and want to experiance the time when games had a major impact on your life, its so much emotions in this game that its overwhelming, everyone should have played this game before they do they dont know what true games rly are.

Higher resolution pixel perfection! :D Actually I considered doing a "Jowy's Story" remake. The story of his rise as a king of Highland and the kingdom's eventual downfall.
I know what you feel EXACTLY. I think of it as a game... Until I hear the music, or I see a video, or I actually play the game! Then I remember that it is something more!... Magnificent. A true masterpiece indeed! :) One of my favorite games ever, and I am certain it will stay that way all my life. :) No problem, dude! Glad I could help revive some wonderful emotions in nostalgic people. :D Oh, and if you don't know how to play it on your PC, send me a private message, I'll be glad to help! ;)
