Lads, please don't dynamically change the scale on the frame measurer, it makes the line really difficult to understand. Lock the scale at 60 or 30 depending on the game's target, please.
Already picked up and completed on Xbox. 😂 Absolute gem indeed. The game gets better and better as you go through the decades. Def recommend playing in T-cam or cockpit view :)
Great video, and we're chuffed you're enjoying the game :) The Switch version was obviously hugely important to us - we created an entirely separate branch of the game with a completely different render pipeline to better target the hardware, which has made for a good overall experience, but we are still actively chasing down optimisations; it's what I've been doing today, in fact. Hope to have some news on that front for you soon!
Great news. Obviously it would be ideal if you could reach a locked 60 with native res (which I think the game is running in?). But no matter if and when you can achieve it: maybe give us an optional 30fps mode, and/or a mode with lower res in the meantime.
If you add an option for constant locked 30FPS I'm sold. The inconsistent framerate is the only thing that prevents me from buying it right now as I am a bit OCD with dipping framerate, even more so in a racing game. 30 FPS all the time is fine in games like Wreckfest, much better than fluctuating 60.
It's not actually a resolution problem. A 30fps mode might be nice for battery life, but a low-res mode wouldn't help frame rate as we are not fill-rate bound. We've got some good preliminary results from testing various sneaky tricks, so we'll let you know.
@@andrewreed4514 Obviously that would be ideal. The reality is that we're a tiny team (one programmer full-time) and robust online support is a huge undertaking, even with middleware. That's not a 'no', it's a 'we need to be sure it's workable and makes financial sense'.
I like how the tracks have details that pay homage to the real ones they are based off. The Monaco look alike captures it very well, there were others in the video that reminded me of certain corners from the Canadian GP, and another the Australian GP. Even the drivers names are meant to evoke famous F1 drivers.
Oh, man! It can not be overstated just how much fun this game is. Everything from the art style, music, off-the-track activity, the car, driver, and helmet customization options, pit stops, the build-up to each thrilling GP event, the little articles written about you and your team, the upgrades, all of it is just outstanding. It might seem like $29.99 USD is a steep price but this game is packed to the rim with enjoyable content and features. If it's been on your radar and you're on the fence about waiting for a sale or not, I'd say go ahead and just get it. It has completely exceeded my expectations.
Is there an option to turn the race lines off? I don't want the races to devolve into a game of "stare at the line and follow the line" rather than the more organic way of learning the tracks yourself.
Thanks for the lovely review. We are hoping to improve performance in an update and we are gathering feedback on all aspects of the game. We've got lots of ideas for additions and improvements.
Looks like a quality racing game. But it’s too bad there isn’t an online mode, Two player local co-op is great but playing against other gamers online is such a huge part of racing games.
I played this during the ID@Xbox showcase where you can download trials of the game at home and I was BLOWN AWAY. I was like, "why isn't anyone talking about the game?!" and then I searched TH-cam and found scores of PC players loving it. I was grateful to 'stumble' on the game and I commend you for making this video, recommending it to Switch owners. When it comes to great games, the word needs to get out in this overly crowded market.
I love myself an old school racer, slipstream, hotshot racing, horizon chase turbo and rush rally being some of my favourite New Old school racers. Will definitely be picking this up.
I love arcade racers like this like Gran Tourisomo, Gear club unlimited, ETC. The only feature that was missing was the appearance of real cars and their brands in the game. Still the game is pretty fun.
I am early in the campaign and there is one ability that lets you sort of rubber band but not really. I do not use it as much because I often try to make sure I overtake other AI safely. Otherwise, pulling forward in that window of opportunity can get too unsafe. Also, is anyone else on Mawson's hit list besides me?
The level design is very cool, can definitely see the circuit influences of a load of F1 tracks there (Catalunya, Imola, Albert Park, Interlagos, A1 Ring, Monaco etc.) Also interesting that it looks to support reverse tracks too! 0:45 is a reversed Interlagos-alike.
I love the style, I have several racers like this on Switch already. However it looks like the car is floating, I can’t unsee it. One for the sales I reckon…
Bit of a shame it doesn't hit 60fps, but honestly, before you mentioned it I was thinking how smooth it looked! Love these type of racers (like Horizon Chase or Hotshots) often the low poly graphics really ADD to the sense of speed. Might have to push the (Jenson) button on this one!
It actually does hit 60fps. It just doesn't stay there all the time. In dense areas it'll drop down to around 45fps but it's not a harsh transition. You'll barely notice it. It's already been patched and runs better and is still being optimized further to run even smoother. It's feels fine on the Switch.
I don’t know if you already heard of it but the game Ala Mobile GP is also very good if you are an F1 fan and want something more realistic than this, the tracks are almost the same as irl f1 tracks and you can setup the car like f1 23 for the most part.
I'm a really big fan of an oldie racer called Pole Position, so when I saw this drop in the eShop I was pretty excited for it. Looking forward to racing. 🔥
Take that Towcester (closest town to Silverstone), the mighty Northampton gets it's name in lights! Looks fun and I think I'll have to pick it up, I'm more used to seeing joyriders in Northampton rather than F1😂.
My main issue with the game is the AI acting more as a hazard than a competitor. They never race side by side, only try to block or ram you and even on pro difficulty they cannot overtake on the outside whatsoever, they just always gun for the apex and if you cover the inside, they are helpless. It would make a lot more sense to see this behaviour from your nemesis, but i wish most drivers would just put up a nornal defense going into a corner and offer actual wheel to wheel fun.
Thank you for reviewing this guys! I have been so keen on this since you mentioned it in an Upcoming Games video a few weeks back, so much so that I went straight to the eshop and wishlisted it! The combination of racing and management appeals to my love of motorsport as well as my nostalgia for the Gran Turismo series. Any chance for a physical release eventually do you think? I'd really love to have this on my shelf. There really isn't enough good quality semi-realistic to realistic racing sim/arcades on Switch. Thanks again SwitchUp, so glad it reviewed well!🎉
Im really very excited to get this! I wish it had a physical but I guess £25 for digital download is not too shabby! I love F1! However, the sim games have been too hard and just to real and ‘simmy’ 😅since f13 for me 😅 so an arcade x sim hybrid is just the perfect melting point for me! Cheers guys 🍻
im playing this game on ps5 just now, started of on the championship mode to get used to the game and how it feels to play before starting a career, i have to say as an older gamer (59 y-o) i have played many many games over the decades, this 1 reminds me of games from years ago such as virtua racing and a few others i can think of, love this game, ticks so many boxes for me !
Is there a difficulty setting? Is there a rear view or can you look behind? What about the car sounds, engines, tire squeel? No “reset” is a bummer. And the career mode takes place in different years but all the car models are the SAME?
Seriously tempted by this. I liked your description of the handling where you say it’s arcadey unless you ‘choose’ to drive in a more realistic fashion. I may indulge.
Huh. I didn't know these were the devs behind Retro Bowl. That game is far better and more addictive than it has any right to be. Might have to check this one out. Thanks!
Honestly nintendo doomed the entire racing genre on their console by not supporting analog input with their triggers... I guess one could use the right stick which I used to do for Gran Turismo way way back. It's not ideal for subtle left foot breaking though
With this game and the new sim Hotlap racing on the horizon I’m really glad to see more racing games hitting the switch, all we need now is an open world racing game
Picked it up on release have found the overhead camera to have a more stable frame rate but as a fan of f1 and arcade racers this game sits very well with me

It’s amazing fun with the Mario kart wheel lol

yes, you can switch it off
Yep you can turn them off in real time with a button press.
I have virtua racing and love it for a quick blast but always wanted it to be deeper, fingers crossed this is the game to give that.
Can't lie this looks kinda fun. Not my fave genre but like the look of it 😊

Formula Retro Racing, and the sequel World Tour. If you haven’t tried them… er… try them!
Could not get into slipstream, but liked most of the others
@@PikaStu666 love Formula retro racing! I didn't realise it had a sequel, i shall be buying it.

One for the sales I reckon…
That's all I can see now😢
😅 now you’ve gone dun it… for me it’s like the 3D box perspective, you can see it both ways.
The car doesn't look like it's floating if you use most the other views . There are some good views to play in

1:09 "a bit more realistic" as some magic NOS afterburners blast out of the car
It really is amazing. So addictive. Loved their other games as well, New Star Soccer manager and New Star Soccer on steam.
I’m a huge F1 fan, so this game is a very welcome addition to the Switch library! I really hope some day we’ll get a fully licensed game.

Verstappen and newey murdered the competition last year
That top down view remind me of the formula 1 arcade games. Love them.
The only game like this I ever played was Formula 1 ‘97 😅 this look fun though! Thanks for the review 💪🏼
I was wondering when you guys would do a video of this. Great game.
Had to be done! Mark
This game give me Horizon Chase Turbo vibes.. Really love that game..
I've struggled to get into any racing game that's not Mario kart, but I'm feeling like I should give this one a fair shake

This game is awesome old school vibes with modern smooth play. Excellent.
This kind of game was clearly missing on Switch ! Nice addition, I'll buy it soon !
Not my favourite way to race but it does look like fun
Another possible sim aspect: I can't turn controller vibration (force feedback) off on PC. That's the first thing I turn off on any game.
The lack of analog triggers on the Switch (and even the Pro controller) really hampers the racing game experience.
Does the game have motion controls? Like using the controller and tilt it clock or anticlock wise to turn right or left?
So in the cockpit you dont see the hands opperate the gear pedals??
Now this is a game I didn't knew I wanted!
And their other games don't look half bad too...
Wow this one definitely looks like its going to be in my backlog its the feeling that it transmit seems lovely !
Don’t mind a racing game with friends, but not a genre I play regularly. Looks decent though. Still waiting for payday to get Kingdom Come Deliverance
Virtua Racer vibes from Sega but modernized! This is goooooood!
Absolutely amazing. Its like Horizon Chase with Career mode
With this game and the new sim Hotlap racing on the horizon I’m really glad to see more racing games hitting the switch, all we need now is an open world racing game
This looks great. I do wish it had online though.
Why would anyone want to use the analog stick to accelerate or decelerate the car. That sounds like a nightmare.
This looks right up my ally, I used to love the old GP games in the 90's. Might pick this one up!
I'm definitely getting this game but not on my switch.
the official "Virtua Racing" game is on the Switch and has been for some time, this looks like that but with a lot more depth to the game.
We need more racing games on switch!
This is heavily inspired by the great Virtua Racing which also has a great Switch port for just under 7€ and it even runs at solid 60fps.
The racing looks cool. I’d be garbage at it but it’s going on the list.
This game is incredible. I love F1 deepness but not so much hardcore race sims. This is perfect!
Picked it up on release have found the overhead camera to have a more stable frame rate but as a fan of f1 and arcade racers this game sits very well with me
This review makes me wants to watch "Rush" again. It's a damn good movie.😋
Love the look of this, you're right you don't find many decent racing racing game
Horizon Chase Turbo vibes in a GP game 👍
It looks like, this could become my second racing game; it looks pretty decent! Nice Review
Maybe I'm missing it but does anyone know how to turn off the rumble?
i loved the new star soccer games :P this looks great, too!
I cannot unsee that the car is "floating" above the track. Does anybody else see that? It's bugging me like crazy.
Looks like a fun game.. only problem is that I "love" Wreckfest too much.. have not found a single racing game that can replace it 🤣
Looks a lot of fun and I'll put it on my wish list for sure! Haven't played an g1 or racing game in a long time
Does it have a physical version?
Nope, confirmed at 9:20 of the video
It's really good! Love it so much!
I'm glad you like it
F1 racing isn't usually my favorite type of racing game, but I have to admit this looks pretty good.
The few seconds when we can hear the sound of the car's engine brought me shivers.
I’m loving this atm, such a good game. The car upgrading mechanic reminds me of F1 Exhaust Heat on SNES, a game I had as a kid. Great review guys
