    I just bought all 74 episodes on DVD on Amazon of Grendizer. It was called Goldorak in Canada.in the early 80's. I grew up on this stuff. Love it !

      @megajayretro  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Do you have a link Mark? I'd love to get a copy myself! I'm pretty sure it wasn't called Goldorak here in Canada, we knew it as Grandezer which was part of the Force Five series by Jim Terry Productions. Though it might have been called Goldorak in some provinces I know it was called that in Europe and some other places. I totally love Grandizer, still my all time favourite from Force Five! Thanks for watching my video and commenting Mark! Please consider subscribing if you haven't already, I've go more videos on the way! 😊

      @@megajayretro Goldorak was the French name, same for Goldrake (italian). Like @BlindManMark said I do too got the full 74 episode on DvD from wallmart IIRC. But the only reason it was so easily available is because the french version was fully dub. I'm pretty sure can get the original, but you'll have to get on with sub, unless there is some fan sub for the remaining 58 episodes.

      I heard years ago they were going to make a live action Gaiking. There was even a trailer. In it the robot kinda comes up through the pavement.
      I have little hope for any live action. They tend to wait too long. Macross has been in development for like 30 years!
      They need to just make the thing.

    "A revolution. How else could one define what happened in the late afternoon of April 4, 45 years ago? It was a quarter to seven when Network 2 aired the first episode of a new cartoon whose title was Atlas UFO Robot. Boom! The invasion of Japanese robots had begun. And nothing, really nothing could ever be the same again. For the children of the Seventies it was an emotional earthquake from which they would never fully recover, if even today when they see a model of Grendizer their eyes sparkle again." Yeah, I still remember as a kid that magical day when I was exposed to this weird (for the standard of the time) but amazing cartoon.

    Great adventures like this show depicting the hero's journey is what I was weened on when I was little kid and when I grew up I used the memories of what I used to watch and invested in the trading cards of the man who was the living embodiment of what it takes to be the greatest hero like Orion Quest. I'm talking about the one and only all time king of the NFL football players himself TB12 and boy did that investment pay off. Thanks old Japanese cartoons and thank you Tom Brady !

    Very nostalgic stuff here, in my opinion these cartoons trumped most American cartoons of the time. The weird thing is now anime is so mainstream and the norm, when we were coming up this anime was for the cartoon nerds( myself).
    Starblazers , Robotech, Tranzor Z, Ultraman, Voltron,G-Force etc. we're incredible stuff. JimTerry and Sandy Frank we should thank, anime might not have ever gain popularity without those two guys. JB keep it up brother.

      Thanks @Sean Durst! I totally agree man, Classic Giant Robot Anime, there was nothing like it back in the day. We were watching Hana-Barbara staples like Scooby Doo, Yogi Bear, and it wasn't until He-Man and Thundercats that American Cartoons started catching up with anime of the time!
      I really want to remind people of what good anime was. Today's anime is very cookie cutter in some regards, I know people will argue with me, but you'd be hard pressed to find something like Galaxy Express 999 or Starvengers today (hint hint next video lol).

    How the 2 Mazinger and Grendizer are related? (i will use japanese names) Young Koji Kabuto (the guy you call Lens) protect the earth by Doctor Hell, a previus collegue of his gran father Juzo Kabuto, and his army of giant robot founded by Doc Hell in Mikene's island. Koji is the pilot of Mazinger Z, the giant robot made with "Z metal" by Doctor Juzo Kabuto. At the end of Mazinger Z serie the abitants of Mikene woke up by their sleep in the deep earth. They were human once but by their inappropriate use of science they expose themself to radiations who make them ill. To survive thei had to impalnt their body in giant robots (actually the Mikenes have always at least 2 heads: one is metallic and the other is organic and a lot of the times it is on strange part of the body: on the chest, on the belly, at the plece on one hand or at the top of a metallic tail). Mazinger Z is too weak against this new enemies so to help him arrives Tetsuya Tsurugi piloting the Great Mazinger: the most powerfull and update version of M Z done with Super Z Metal by Doctor Kenzo Kabuto, son of Juzo Kabuto and father of Koji. At the end of the serie Doc Kenzo Kabuto sacrifice himself to defeat Mikenes and Koji decide to go to work for the NASA to study the fliyng soucer. And here Grendizer start. Koji back in Japan with his personal little disc ang go to work to Doctor Genzo Umon space institute where he meet Daisuke Umon. The boy is introduced as Doc Umon's son but he is the alien prince Duke Fleed from planet Fleed wihch is escaping from his planet with the robot Grendizer (made of alien metal "Gren") when it was attacked by the army of King Vega. Doctor Genzo Umon found he and adopted him as a son and they hide Grendizer in Doc Umon's space institue, But after 2 years, when Duke meets Koji, King Vega decided to attack the Earth and Duke decide to protect his new home. Koji decided to join him and help him. At the beginning Koji uses his ridicuolus little space soucer but later in the story Doctor Umon will built a new powerfull veicle for him: The Double Spacer (who allow Grendizer to better fight in Earth atmosphere engaging on its back. Then two women enjoy the team: Hikaru Machiba, the girl who lives in the farm in wich Duke works with his human identity, and Mary Grace Fleed, Duke's younger sister (who Duke believed to be dead). Hikaru will be the oilot of the Marine Spacer (for fights on and under the water) and Mary will be the pilot of the Drill Spacer (for fights on and under the ground). Both the veicles can engage Grendizer on its back as the Double Spacer does.
    Why nobody uses the 2 Mazinger in the Grendizer serie? Cause Mazinger Z is too weak against Vega Soucer-monsters and also Great Mazinger is not too good. There is a special called "Grendizer versus Great Mazinger" in wich Koji is kidnapped by Vega and by ipnosis forced to teach a Vega's commander how to pilot Great Mazinger. But in the fight you will see how Grendizer is most powerfull. In this special episode there is no sign of Tetsuya Tsurugi
    P.s. Sorry for my grammar mistakes but English is not my first language

In the original Anime Kobuto Koji is the pilot of Mazinger Z (Tranzor Z),He reappears for a while in Great Mazinger and later on in the sequel series UFO Grendizer he pilots that saucer.

    Excuse the longish post but this is really cool. We watched it as kid's in the early 90's. One of my friends even built the "Spin Saucer" with an electric motor and a plastic piece drilled to perfection. Lance seemed pretty lame going up against the enemy in the comically inadequate UFO. But it's in the episode where he develops the fusion beam that he finally starts packing some serious power.

    Grandizer was always my absolute favorite!! He had the best weapons and the coolest look (aside from Dragon of the Starvengers). I wish they would make updated movies with all of these awesome characters! Drawn animation, 3-D animation, or even live action versions...!! I would be ecstatic if somebody did!!!

    I also grew watching the Arabic full 74 episodes in the middle east. One quick correction, its not Vega that has the lady living in his face, its one of his top commandars. Gandal is what I believe his name is. In latter episodes, his face would just convert to a woman face and back. In the last couple of episodes, The woman wanted to betray Vega but Gandal being super loyal to Vega shoots her killing both of them in the process.

    I grew up watching Grendizer in French (renamed Goldorak), The French dub is legendary and only enhanced the original. The complete dubbed series was release in Canada on region 1 DVD about a decade ago. Though the boxset isn’t great, it’s still awesome to watch the whole series in order. It’s weird to see the English opening and ending without any lyrics. The French version probably holds the record for the overall number of op-end thrme songs!

  • @mestrehayatojin584
    @mestrehayatojin584 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    The origins of the UFO Robo Grendizer go back to Uchu Enban Daisenso (宇宙 円 盤 大 戦 争, Uchū Enban Daisensō), translated and also known as Battlefield of The Space Saucers and The Great Battle of the Flying Saucers, a 1975 animated short created by Go Nagai and produced by Toei Doga. It is also known as Space Disk War and was also launched in Italy under the name of UFO Robot Gattaiger-La grande battaglia dei dischi spaziali. It was originally shown together with the short film Grande Mazinger tai Getter Robot G: Kuchu Daigekitotsu, also by Toei and Nagai. Nagai and Dynamic Productions created Grendizer using some of Daiseno's elements and characters, including Duke, the Makiba family and even Blaki. Some changes have been made to make it more original. The most obvious are the changes in design and the addition of characters like Koji Kabuto and Maria Fleed. UFO Robot Grendizer was developed to be a sequel to Grande Mazinger after the initial concepts of a sequence were rejected by Toei. With the appearance of Uchu Enban Daisenso at the Toei Manga Festival in March 1975, a remake was released using elements from Mazinger. To give a new light to the series, the villains of the series were decided to be aliens, a trend that followed in other series of Toei wicks, at the same time that it made Duke a character more Blue Blood, with his suit being based on a knight including more romantic elements with his characters and sense of adventure. Go Nagai, however, stated in an interview that the anime series was considered a fun side project and does not consider Grendizer as part of the series' timeline. This is mainly because he had a lot of disagreements with Toei and Shingo Araki. However, Nagai and Dynamic Pros include Grendizer in their Mazinger Bible, a 2002 backstage book on the Mazinger franchise launched for the 30th anniversary of the first Mazinger series.

    A great series! I recently was able to see the whole series subtitled. In his youth Orion Quest or Duke Fleed (his Japanese Name) was in love with Vega the Strong's beautiful redheaded daughter Robina. She later meets him and sacrifices her life to save him from his father. Orion is also aided but not only by Lance but Brenda, and Orion's sister and all three have spacers to link with and improve Grandizer.
