this is why schools should make it optional to present in front of the class. one year i had this cool teacher who would let people with anxiety stay after school and do their presentations in a small group or just with the teacher and it helped me soo much. i still think about it and how nice and what a good teacher she was!! presentations are honestly horrible and in my opinion they are unnecessary, especially for people with severe social anxiety.
Lots of people with social anxiety can get over it, like myself. I literally trembled and sweated during my first few presentations. After being forced to do it, I have built confidence and can talk to people. Happily married and living the life. :)
I agree and disagree with this because it is *definitely* important for the students to feel comfortable, but in the real world, they will need to be able to go through with a presentation, whether they want to or not. Learning this in a school environment may not be the best though, because if something goes wrong the other students ridicule them. I do think that they should start out small, and present in smaller groups before presenting to the whole class for the first time.
but it’s something that people need to learn. you can’t go your whole life hiding and running away from moments like these. when you’re older it’s just going to get worse and worse better learn to endure it now then live like that
Same. I'm just so anxious to going back to school. I think I'm crazy becouse in school I have friends and sometimes is in school fun, but I hate it there. I feel anxious about everything that can happen to me in school. I don't want to go to school. I just want to stay home forever...
I like how in the family eating scene has the family all on one side of the table whereas she sat by herself on the other. It portrayed real loneliness :)
I feel like the little sister was there to be a representation of her mind. The things that the sister said are things that someone with anxiety would think about themself.
Today my teacher has me stand in front of the class and I was shaking and I couldn’t say anything without sounding like I was going to cry, and someone yelled “SPEAK UP I CANT HEAR” my heart dropped🥺
@Lavender•Bubble you know actually when people do that it makes me super mad. I’m not saying it’s a good thing but anger makes me forget my anxiety. It burns inside me like a fire and i feel like punching them in the face.
Not nessassarily. you will get a lot of anxiety knowing the teacher might call you next. but its also bad to be called first cuz if you did really bad and stuttered a lot your anxiety will start telling you that the classmates did way better.
This reminds me of the time my therapist called me selfish because when I described to her my social anxiety she said I think too much about myself and not about the ones around me ..
I don't really mind an auditorium full of people if I am confident in what I am doing or at a play in church with like 50-60ppl but if there are hundreds of people I know I'd be nervous. Then again if I am confident in what I am doing I should just be able to get out there and get 'er done.
everytime my teacher sais "maybe you didnt have time to prepare" after i failed my presentation when i was going thru with my anxiety, that is the most annoying question ever. i always prepared it like a week ago even a month but my mind was just blank out everytime i spoke it in front of people... i know it sucks
Fasya Nadhira Exactly. One could spend months preparing for something, and have it all perfected and memorized to the core. But it only takes one second for anxiety to kick in and screw all your hard work up. You’d think teachers would know better
I had to wear sunglasses and I sweat a lot and couldn’t look at the class for a Spanish presentation. Like soooo much sweat I wish I’d have thought of running away. I got older tho and lost the nervousness. I think presentations should be less of a high school thing and stick to it a college thing.
@@sugarcakezz In The Netherlands we have to do them already at school from age 8. I HATED it. I am 40 now and when I need to speak in public (even if they are my friends/family) I feel like throwing up, sweaty and shaky. Bleugh
When people tell me to "relax" or "chill out" I get soooo annoyed. You don't understand. I physically cannot relax. They ask me "what are you afraid of?" and I can only respond with "I don't know" because I truly don't know. They see that answer as me being nervous for no reason and if I "suck it up" I'll be fine, and all those people saying "if you prepared you'll be fine". What do they think anxiety is?
As a teacher in training, I'm going to do a thing for presentations where students have an option to present infront of the class or write a conversational essay. The essay would just be what they would have said in class so I know that they know the material. I understand what it's like to have anxiety and I don't want to make my students have panic attacks in my classroom. I know it's going to happen anyways, but I'm prepared to help them. I will make sure they not only get help, but know techniques to help themselves.
I'm actually so glad school's cancelled now. I had so much presentations and now since school's ended I won't have to do them. I've literally had anxiety about them for MONTHS
I know but me I actually enjoy doing presentations that's like the best part of school I feel bad for the people who have anxiety that cant present projects I like to present projects I was just born that way I have like a sense of confidence .
Yeah, just completely makes the situation a whole lot worse. Sometimes when I get embarrassed and all that, I am able to control it. However when someone notices and makes a comment I look like I’ve had awful sunburn on my face lmao.
Same... i cant control it. Sometimes i feel a hot blood rush inside my cheeks and i figure out im turning red which makes it even worse. It happens in certain situations even if im not nervous or anxious at all.
My life at high school was an experience i want to forget and i always feel jealous when i hear people remembering how fun it was for them , i was crippled by anxiety and depression without even knowing or going to a therapist and I remember how panicked i’d feel when i have to stand up before the whole class when i barely know most of them and how the teachers were pressuring me to get up .. i really hope university treats me good since i got treated
I sang at church one Sunday and I sounded terrible. I ran of the stage embarrassed. Weeks later I heard my Guardian's best friend laughing at me. My cousins and sister hated me saying I embarrassed them. Only one of my cousins didn't laugh. God bless her.
I know its embarrassing but God counts that even more bc u did it even tho u were really embarrassed. God says not to take revenge bc revenge is only for God. God bless you!
Dude dis is why I don’t like churches deez believers believe in god but they don’t try and act understandingly and nice about small mistakes like bruh ur in church ur a believer ffs do what god wants u to do
@@MemeBrainBlast yes, for someone who is just having healthy anxiety (like, normal anxiety for a big event, or something) but when you have an anxiety DISORDER, it isnt something that helps and it actually make you feel worse because then you feel like your a problem
This was painful to watch. In college, I got so nervous I started crying in front of the whole class. I ended up having a panic attack in the bathroom and the teacher told me if I couldn’t do the presentation I would fail the class. There was no other solution and she didn’t let me present in another day because I would have more time and it wouldn’t be fair for everyone else. This just made me feel more anxious and I left. Anxiety is serious and it can really affect your life. Ask for help and don’t be ashamed - it’s not your fault and you are trying your best.
“Is this your first time having anxiety?” “No.” “Have you ever sought professional help for your anxiety?” “No.” “Have you ever abused substances in an attempt to cope with your anxiety?” “No. Wait, are you reading these questions off a script?” How did I know this was coming?
My anxiety used to ruin almost every presentation. But sometimes there were good presentations. Often I wanted to skip class in order to avoid the presentation but that‘s the worst thing you can do. I felt so happy when I finally had that one good presentation. It was incredible. But bad presentations followed... so the point is: don’t be afraid. No one is perfect. The Beat thing is that you will have progress if you continue. And bo matter how hard It may be to you right now, just remember that you won‘t die. You can only learn. :) Good luck for your presentation!
I used to not care about presenting. I would do it then sit back down, easy at that. But in 5th grade something clicked. I couldn’t talk with out shaking and feeling sick. I would stutter and move slightly. It never stopped all the way in middle school but got more serious than just not being able to present. Then one Halloween a old friend of mine came by and talked to my mom. He said I was quiet and wasn’t the same as I was before. When my mom told me I realized how I changed. I try to change for the better but it’s so hard, I can’t talk to people anymore like the way I did, I panic a lot, and I cry a lot. I can’t even tell anyone because I don’t want to be seen as another kid seeking attention. I take EVERYTHING into thought, people’s facial expressions, what they say to others, what they do, and more. Even writing this is a risk for me. I just hope everything gets better. Goodbye and have a nice day/night
PixieCat Gaming A similar thing happened to me. I used to like presenting first, cause i didnt see anything wring about it and then you would be done to hear other presentation. From grade 8 upwards, i started feeling more and more nervous, not being able to go first anymore and feeling weird before exams and presentation, which used to be easy for me. It never got really bad for me luckily, but i am still very stressed in social situations and overthink a lot, sometimes i overthink so much that i start crying and wishing i would just stop thinking about it. I want to tell you that you are doing great wherever you are at and that you are absolutely capable at getting and feeling better. Maybe Mantras can help you, thats what i did. I repetitively told myself positive things and tried replacing the thoughts that i didnt want. Like before exams, telling yourself you are well prepared, you will do your absolute best. Maybe other tips similar to that can help you, you can google some and try them out. To me, trying out smth felt better, more in control than doing nothing. If that doesnt make anything better, maybe you cant talk to a professional, like a psychologist for more strategies. They usually have a bunch of them for different situations and you can try them out until you find what works for you! (You have probably heard all those tips before, but i wanted to share anyway) I believe in you 😊
PixieCat Gaming slowly try to do things out of your comfort zone. This is what cured my anxiety and made me very confident. When i was younger i couldnt even read something from my table during the class without fear or without overthinking and now i can just go and approach the girl i like with no hesitation. I wish you good luck on the road of your self-improvement!
@UCDjKnM9YRV9Z_1liW0Yjx2w also people cant help not having a sibling, that's the parents choice. And I'm really sorry if im sounding mean or just an idiot on the internet. I sent that to keemochee
Exactly!! Social anxiety also comes form insults and being negatively judged in the passed, we start to think this is what everyone sees when they look at us and this is what we put out. A compliment can take you so far
As a teen with an anxiety disorder (and being the eldest child in a family that acts EXACTLY like the one shown here), I can confirm that this is definitely accurate, except for the awful counselor and the miraculous recovery at the end.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve cried alone because I felt so overly overwhelming, the times I felt like throwing up, passing out, etc. It sucks so much and I really wish I didn’t feel this way every time I came across another human being 💀
A big applause for this girl who represented all of us anxious people here! It's a really well made short film. I really cried during watching this because I can feel what she was feeling. I understand how scary and uncontrollable anxiety can get. I wish good strength to those people who are fighting against anxiety.
Anxiety is a real issue that should not be ignored. The people who have anxiety are afraid to ask for help as people around them, including family members and school counsellors would not take it seriously and would just think that the person is overthinking which increases the person's anxiety and loneliness as well.
one time i told my older sister that i get super nervous during presentations and she told me “ no one pays attention during them they just want to go home” and it has stuck with me and helped me throughout presentations
I get really mad when I’m late to school, not because “I’m going to miss out on so much learning”, but mainly because I hate when my class stares at me when I enter the door, even worse when it’s all quiet, and some would stare at me walk to my desk, which is usually in the MIDDLE of the classroom.. When I say late, I mean as in like 2-3 minutes late, and it’s usually my fault too, because of how fussy I get with how I look in public ...
@@biancaloghin6114 For me, being homeschooled is horrible. I had to be homeschooled bc of health problems and now my nonexistant social life has become even worse. I feel so lonely. I'd rather go back to public hs and deal with the symptoms the hard way to at least talk to someone.
Homeschooling created my anxiety problem. Everytime I get around other people to do something, especially doing a presentation is terrifying and I done’t know how to manage my anxiety cause I’m so used to being isolated for the most part. I don’t normally have to be around anybody but my family. Man..... I’m worried about how I’ll manage in college...
The childishness of the counselor's office is so accurate. It's so hard to find a counselor that works with young adults. It's either adults, which is too serious, or kids, which is way too childish
I feel her pain about the younger sibling. The parents don't realise that it's usually the younger ones making he older ones life hell yet still being the favourite child
My parents gave me, the younger sibling, a 3ds when my sister clearly stated she wanted one Then again, my sister hit me in the head with a hairbrush once, so it goes both ways Still though, sometimes we're aware The one in the video is just a b*tch though.
In school I was bullied and I suffer social anxiety amongst other things. I thought when called up to read an essay which was a short story of a day in a life exposing my day to day life to mu bullies I thought it would give the class more reasons to laugh and mock and bully me. But they actually just made signs they did not want to hear my essay at all and looked bored and fed up. Until I began. And throughout it I wanted to stop and the ground to swallow me up. But I was rooted to the spot and kept my eyes on the paper hardly looking up. And whenever I had looked up everyone had moved positions to get more comfortable and were intently listening. At first I thought it was because they heard something they wanted to laugh at afterwards. But at the end of the essay. Despite sweating and shaking. They all clapped loudly and even told me well done that was super good. They hardly clapped t anyone else's essays. I have had the same reaction in acting in collage when my bullies from school were there and when I had a presentation for mp mock practise in social studies at school. I'm starting to wonder if it is the way I read that does it. Sometimes through anxiety you think you sound bad but actually you can speak clear and perfectly through it. And clearly no one even knows you are feeling nervous at all. You still have power there. I have very little things that I'm actually good at and to impress my bullies it had to be that good. It is something I need to remind myself off when I feel through life that I am far behind in life. That I have skills and talents to use. We all have. And sometimes strangely we can have them even in our weakeness. Such as social anxiety but yet I can still captivate the audience
My friend sent me this vid and told me that the girl looks exactly like me. And I swear I've finally found my doppleganger, except I'm a little brown lol
to everybody who takes medication for anxiety and depression and is embarrassed by it: take it please. as somebody who was diagnosed with both at a young age grew up in a family that didn’t believe in medication, i would do anything to take them. i took them both for six months before my mom took me off them. they helped me so much and i regret those days i didt take them because i didn’t want to. and they are very good for you
after years of severe anxiety to the point of major panic attacks every morning causing me to stay home from school several times every week because we had a presentation due..anxiety ruined my life and i took control of it. i stopped staying home from school and got involved in more things and forced myself to be more open. i forced myself to face my fears and sometimes my anxiety still gets to me but its not as bad. so trust me, if you think you cant do it because of anxiety, you can. dont let it control you. 💓
Me: *Has Anxiety* My school counselor: “You need to work on your social skills and don’t just say something when it’s not medical proven when a doctor hasn’t told you have it.” *EDIT: I have been diagnosed with a bad case of anxiety shortly after I posted this comment.*
When I was younger I always thought I was the only person who dreaded doing presentations. Like all other kids looked and sounded so confident but off course my shy loner ass was so nervous during every presentation I always messed up
Very challenging subject. It’s an unfortunate fact but this is probably the exception to the rule when it comes to realistic teen behavior. It’s a nice story and the topic certainly needs addressing. However, based on the family dynamics the outcome may also very well be an exception to future issues. Good luck to the Hollys out there in the world!
I had severe anxiety in high school and even talking to other people made me panic i was quiet. My anxiety interferes with everything while I was in school. I would miss presentations, I would miss class. If I wasn’t one of the first in class to sit down I would skip class because walking past people would make me uncomfortable. I was extremely smart but my anxiety made it sooooooooo hard. I avoided everything. Schools should focus on developing people more. Rather than saying do this presentation or you will fail. I got bad grades because of my anxiety. I completely understand that avoiding will not make life easier. But baby steps allow students to get there slowly. I had a mental breakdown after high school and spent 8 months in partial hospitalization and therapy 8 hours a days due to my anxiety. I was going to school for interior design and slept every other day because all I could do was study and over analyze and made myself sick from all of the overthinking. I was failing but when I met with my professor i litterally had every code memorized. I could explain why XYZ , and understood more than anyone in my class. I just couldn’t finish my design because it wasn’t perfect. Anyways I dropped out of college went to finally get help for my anxiety, I was in group therapy and it saved me knowing other people were in the situation and I wasn’t crazy. I felt supported. Then time to back into the real world. I went for a sales associate position at this company. (While going back to school) had to practice interviews with my therapist. Started crying after the interview, the store manager believed in me and has brought me out of my shell. I am now the STORE MANAGER. Helping others to get out of their shell
Every time I present something in my class, I thought if I messed up everyone would laugh at me and everyone will not stop thinking about it for ever. But it wasn’t that and I did a great job 😌
I had a presentation in my class. And I was really scared. I prepared a lot but when the teacher called my name I was like everything stopped. I stand in front of everyone. My paper was shaking, my hands were shaking. I even shuttered many times. Everyone was looking at me like I am an alien. My teacher didn't even cared about it and when I sat back . I quickly drank water but at that time she asked me "did the presentation made you drink water " In a sarcastic way . I was really embarassed, sad, hurt. I am sorry for my bad english
When she said "then deal with it" to the sister that spoke volumes on anyone telling someone struggling with anxiety that. "Get over it just deal with it". I feel like people with anxiety want to wish they could "deal with it" but sometimes it is dead weight dealing with it. Easier said than done
Storytime: ok. So, it was almost the end of my sixth grade year and my math teacher was making us do this stupid presentation on a famous mathematician. Keep in mind, this teacher did NOT like me. I would never participate in class, i didnt make good grades for her, and i didnt ever talk. Sometimes she would say rude things that i knew were directed at me like "some of you need to start participating.." while looking directly at me. Anyways, so i got into the classroom, did my warm-up blah blah blah and then presentations began. I wasnt the first to go, in fact i was the very last to present, but my heart beat fast even though i was just listening. I couldnt concentrate on what they were saying, my mind wouldnt stop thinking about when it was going to be my turn and how terrible it was going to be. I tried to make it stop before i went to present but i couldnt and it was my turn now. My teacher pulled up my powerpoint and qued me to go. My legs and my voice started shaking, my heart was beating so hard i could hear it clear in my ears. It felt like my heart found a hammer and was beating my chest with it. I couldnt breathe. I had stop after almost every word to breathe. You dont know how hard i tried to stop the tears from forming. It was happening again. I was absolutely terrified. I heard a few girls behind be giggle and i thought i would just burst into tears right there. I said the last sentence, almost gasping for air. Right when i was finished, i ran to my desk and almost let a tear slip out, but i told myself that everyone would know what a crybaby i was if i didnt stop, so i managed to calm myself down and stoped crying. This happens all the time even if im just reading a simple sentence. Its gotten so bad i cant even talk to people anymore without almost crying. Im honestly getting so tired of it. Anyways, i hope someone can see this and relate and know their not alone.
I think in sixth or fifth grade my teacher was really mean I think I was her least favorite student, any way when she was teaching she'd call on me and I would get really nervous I answered and got it wrong she'd embarrass me in front of the class once I even think I cried witch was really embarrassing Anyway there's my story sound kinda stupid now that I think about it
Meditate happened to a lot just not as bad before or 15 min before stare at something far away and meditate a good way is to feel the air go in and out of you nose focus on that
This is so relatable. But, what was worse was that I was the last person to present since I came back to school from a trip to Utah. Everyone was staring. I didn’t even know how to start my presentation. Like what transition words I should use. When I am nervous I would sweat like crazy and cover my face with my long hair. But, what I keep telling myself is “Stay strong it’s almost over.” When in reality I just started presenting. What made it even worse was that my class had to do a 7-11 slide presentation on companies that use child labor. This all happened last year, 2017 in 6th Grade. This was to the people who had a bad day and had to present. ❤️
Hope your 7th-grade year is going well. I am in 7th grade too. Anything like that wouldn't be too difficult for me. I don't have anxiety but if there are 100+ people there then I'll be nervous. I'll just be mentally exploding due to being nervous but I won't shake or re-read a line or anything. A church play or something at school (never done anything like that at school) would be fine.
This makes me emotional. It just reminded me one of the main reasons why I hated school and why my grades dropped. It's sad to have no one to turn to for help. You are told to suck it up and be strong.
I’m not sure about me tbh. I wouldn’t said I’m depressed, but very often times I get this sadness that lasts for usually weeks, and I either eat a lot of stop eating...
My anxiety just goes off the roof whenever there are presentations. My heart would beat so loud and my head would spin, i would forget everything i wanted to say last minute and my voice would turn stuttered. Ugh why tf am i like this EDIT: also i hate how ppl would go just "chill out" like you cant just 'chill'
Yeah same for me, but now I’m in 10th grade and since I’ve been doing a lot of presentations lately, I have my own little strategy of pretending that I don’t care about the presentation/I don’t seem bothered by being very monotone. This works well also since I have a RBF
ǝuoǝɯosツ I tried to get out of it but the teacher wouldn’t let me. I felt so sick and in the end ended up saying I felt so ill that I was gunna be sick and ran out of the classroom 😳 one of my most embarrassing moments
Honestly though as someone with anxiety I feel like this representation isn't that accurate. I don't know if maybe I just react differently to my anxiety, but for me my symptoms are a lot worse. I don't just leave the room when I get a bit nervous. When I do presentations my face goes red, I shake, I sweat, I start crying, and I feel an intense need to hurt myself or a want to die, and I can't leave the room or sit back down because If I move I feel more on show. It's like I'm trapped in place until I finish. It feel's inhumane.
This happens to me often, but i really tried my best to hide my anxiety when I'm Infront of people. Otherwise they would call me weird, even tho most times i still made it obvious. It isn't easy and honestly painful.

I had to wear sunglasses and I sweat a lot and couldn’t look at the class for a Spanish presentation. Like soooo much sweat I wish I’d have thought of running away. I got older tho and lost the nervousness. I think presentations should be less of a high school thing and stick to it a college thing.

What a coincidence i actually have one soon thankyou with my selectivemutism (type of anxiety i suppose)it gets hard but i keep pushing as u said .
the best feeling ever is when you get it done and over with
And then then you get roasted by the whole class because your in that type of school
(You have probably heard all those tips before, but i wanted to share anyway) I believe in you 😊
That is exactly what happened to me

Anxiety is a real issue that should not be ignored. The people who have anxiety are afraid to ask for help as people around them, including family members and school counsellors would not take it seriously and would just think that the person is overthinking which increases the person's anxiety and loneliness as well.

Why is this exactly my situation
The guidance counselor and the sister was kind of annoying but I feel like they made the story. But i loved this❤

Caitlin Hadwin omg I have the same thing I get so nervous and feel like I’m going to cry and barf.
Hey Caitlin I'm serious when I say this go see a therapist. Therapist can help you get rid of it
I think in sixth or fifth grade my teacher was really mean I think I was her least favorite student, any way when she was teaching she'd call on me and I would get really nervous I answered and got it wrong she'd embarrass me in front of the class once I even think I cried witch was really embarrassing
Anyway there's my story sound kinda stupid now that I think about it
Meditate happened to a lot just not as bad before or 15 min before stare at something far away and meditate a good way is to feel the air go in and out of you nose focus on that

Same I get nervous I start shaking and sweating. And turn red it's insane and can't even speak!
Yeah its far worse usually, this is nothing compared to how it actually is
This makes me emotional. It just reminded me one of the main reasons why I hated school and why my grades dropped. It's sad to have no one to turn to for help. You are told to suck it up and be strong.
i like how on tv people never eat when theyre depressed or upset about something. When I'm depressed or upset I eat more than usual lol
For me, eating when I'm sad makes me feel like trash.
I never eat when I’m sad I can’t I spit the food out sis
I’m not sure about me tbh. I wouldn’t said I’m depressed, but very often times I get this sadness that lasts for usually weeks, and I either eat a lot of stop eating...
Stress eating.
for me it's the opposite. I literally CAN'T eat
Her skin is so clear! What does the little sister mean by “red dots”?! Wth!!
She is just giving her more anxiety
@@cat1800 the sister is the representation of her mind
Reading the comments makes me feel im not alone..
But then again, there's no one around me who can understand how i feel
It’s so sad to see something like this, a cute girl in high school having her days ruined and her reputation shot down because of anxiety
My anxiety just goes off the roof whenever there are presentations. My heart would beat so loud and my head would spin, i would forget everything i wanted to say last minute and my voice would turn stuttered. Ugh why tf am i like this
EDIT: also i hate how ppl would go just "chill out" like you cant just 'chill'
Yeah same for me, but now I’m in 10th grade and since I’ve been doing a lot of presentations lately, I have my own little strategy of pretending that I don’t care about the presentation/I don’t seem bothered by being very monotone. This works well also since I have a RBF
This made me cry. When she was hovering over the sink at the end, I knew exactly how she felt.
I’ve got a presentation tomorrow I’m literally going to die 💀
Poppy Cartwright how did It go?
Poppy Cartwright how was it?
How did it go

ǝuoǝɯosツ I tried to get out of it but the teacher wouldn’t let me.
Yes this doesn’t show how your brain is falling apart and all the emotions.
oh wow
This happens to me often, but i really tried my best to hide my anxiety when I'm Infront of people. Otherwise they would call me weird, even tho most times i still made it obvious. It isn't easy and honestly painful.
depends on the person honestly, everyone reacts differently
Same
I actually teared up when I watched this. I know how the girl feels, I get anxiety a lot and nobody is there to help.
