      Thank you (all) for asking and answering. This is one of those (MANY) little cultural things we Americans don't often hear about.
      I'll be going down the proverbial rabbit hole on this item and topic later today. lol!

    I sincerely love your attitude, and it was a main reason I became a subscriber. I may have missed it, but I failed to see a knife or multi tool. They do tend to be heavy and there's so many to choose for so many different reasons of course. And I did not know there was a huge trail in the Great White North!

    I just watched your GDT movie at the Globe! Good job you guys. To hike and record plus have it ready in record time. I have to say my name was in the video because I passed through a day or so before you. When you wrote in the register at the Baril Creek sign my name is to the left ha ha - Bourgaize
    I spoke with Lynnie in the lobby. Oh my! She is younger than I. Thanks so much for the pack turnout and a very entertaining movie ❤️
    Also I developed the Unightie - maybe you could review it one day.

    Belgium! I have a friend there... Oost-Vlaanderen area.
    That shot of burned forest and fireweed at 8:55 looks like my area (I'm about 40miles away from the PCT on the WA/OR boarder).
    I find it interesting you're carrying more paper and wipes rather than switching to a hiker's bidet.
    Thanks for sharing! :D

      One day I'll try a hiking bidet. I know a bunch of people who swear by them.

      I would rather use a BRICK other than that crappy bidet. Seems quite the rage for awhile. No more

    I love watching you two. So inspiring. Quick question I’ve never used a sock liner before. Do you use the ones with the toes? Do you use them every time? So liner then darn tough socks.

    • @RyanKodakBrown
      @RyanKodakBrown  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The ones with the toes, Injinji's, are great. Regular liners can help prevent blisters but the toe socks prevent them between your toes if that's an issue. Ilse wears them most times she hikes. Liners and wool socks for the win.

    Thanks so much for sharing! I’m just getting started in the backpacking life :) love it so far! I wanted to ask, how heavy is your pack?

    • @RyanKodakBrown
      @RyanKodakBrown  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! Not positive but around 15lb baseweight and 30-35lbs fully loaded with 7-8 days of food. Ilse says she “blames it on the underwear!” 😂 Good luck and happy trails!

    Quick question . For your rain jackets you said you have the outdoor research helium. Is it the helium rain jacket or the helium rain jacket ascentshell? Big difference in price so want to make sure I get the right one.

    • @RyanKodakBrown
      @RyanKodakBrown  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We both use the OR Helium and I'm on my second or third one. Been using it for years now! The Ascentshell seems to be a more waterproof design using 3 layers whereas the Helium is 2.5. The Helium will wet through after a long day in the rain but it still keeps us warm, warm enough at least!
      I'd use a heavier jacket like the ascent shell if I were pushing into shoulder seasons especially at altitude (Late season hikes on the GDT for example) or if I were expecting lots and lots of rain with cooler temps. We're considering something heavier for a trip across Patagonia next year, for instance.
      Long answer there but I hope it helps. I don't know what you're planning so I'm hesitant to recommend an ultralight rain jacket like helium straight away. It has been both of our primary jackets for years though adding layers beneath as needed.
      (If your budget is tight, many thru hikers use frog togs! Just as light and a quarter of the cost. Won't last as long though and the OR warranty is legit. They replaced mine after a zipper wore out after thousands of miles....)

      Thank you so much. We are doing the west coast trail on Vancouver island late June with the family. Planing on spending 10 days on the trail and it is likely to rain a lot in May/June so definitely need a rain jacket. Hoping it won’t rain the entire week. Most of our backpacking have not been probable rain so never gave my rain gear much thought. I bought the OR helium rain jackets for my husband and I and then realized maybe u guys had the helium accentshell and got worried I invested in inadequate rain gear 🤪🤦‍♀️ thank you so much for your quick response. Loved watching your travels on the great divide . Inspiring.
