I was not expecting those pickups to sound so warm and mellow; a stark contrast to the atomics the first series had. The tone actually kind of reminds me of a 335 of all things. And that finish with the anodized pickguard is simply gorgeous!

The Meteora sounds really fucking good. Even though I'm an offset player almost exclusively, I would love to have one of these cause I've been looking to have a guitar with good sounding humbuckers (I'm very picky with my taste like I don't really like PAFs). Been so desperate that I've been thinking of modding my first guitar I bought with my own money (Epiphone LP Special ii) to just have a JB in the bridge, a volume, and a killswitch. Sadly this guitar is a way too much for me, but it is definitely now one I want when I can afford it. Also I really love your idea for a Squier Meteor with a JM setup, I would buy the fuck out of that.
Dude, I definitely understand. This guitar is easily the best out of the 4 Meteora's thats been released over the last few years. It's definitely a guitar worth saving up for. And yea, I'd LOVE a Squier Meteora with a JM load out! I'd buy like 8 of them. lol.

Nice!! Awesome review, man! I found your stuff from Working Class Music. I was blown away by how warm and articulate the pickups are. These might be my favorite pickups I've heard from Fender. The Wide Range pickups are nice but these are really killer

I thought I would be interested in the Strat or Tele but suddenly I find myself obsessed with this Meteora and it’s gotta be Texas Tea. Sounds incredible in your hands! I appreciate also the clean tones you play. I feel as if the split sound is better than what you’d normally expect from split humbucker sounds! Also the look of the guitar really suits you! Personally I also love the headstock shape because it’s similar to the Jazzmaster headstock but almost more like the very original 60s Mustang headstock shape before they made it bigger. That’s my favorite fender headstock shape. I didn’t want to buy any new guitars but dammit i can’t help it. I have to get one of these next year 🙊🙏 and probably sell some gear

It's a beautiful guitar that sounds great. Couldn't agree more about the matching headstock with Texas Tea. It was the one thing they missed with the original Ultra Tele, too.
Love the shots you got showing off the Texas Tea finish! It comes off looking flat in most media, and you got some shots showing off its complexities. Agree on the headstock. Would be really curious to see how a Meteora would look and feel with a tremolo and three mini humbuckers, like the St Vincent guitars.

Fender seems to be aiming for me with the bass cut, hardtail, locking tuners, and dual humbuckers in rings. That said, I would rather have a semihollow Warmoth Dinkycaster with a 24.75" scale length conversion neck and Seymour Duncan Triple Shot mounting rings.
If they're going to go all in with a new shape, why not get crazy with the layout? How about JM neck and HB bridge with a tremolo. By the way, your dad rock chops have improved over time, most impressive.

@@JasonTMays I have that ‘18 parallel universe tele meteora. Guitar center used had it marked wrong and I picked it up for about $1000 before the pandemic.
@@JoonKimDMD offset shapes tend to be more comfortable and is designed with that in mind. Dual humbuckers are thicker sounding and less noise prone. These humbuckers are new and far more balanced in terms of EQ and plays far better with drive than its single coil counterparts.
I own one of the first Alternate Reality MIM Meteoras and it's my main guitar. It needed a bit of work and different pickups, but it's one of the most confortable and sexy guitars i've played. It's the best Fender SG ever: light, vibrant and bright, and it's a looker. In my opinion, far better than other humbucker fenders like the Tele deluxe (confort) and Starcaster. These Meteoras Ultra II are REALLY expensive in Europe. Near 2,5k. Fender direct sells them for 2.749€ wich i think it's silly I wish you'd have played with the bass contour knob a bit... 🙂 Anyways, thanks for the review and best from Barcelona.
Yea, the alternate reality version I played needed a lot of love. But i played it at a big box music store. They Ultra 2’s are definitely expensive no getting around that. lol. It's cool, but there are so many cool guitars these days coming from Japan that I would MUCH rather have. Check out the Sago New Materials Raijin guitar. Never seen anything remotely like it and it's not an unreasonable amount of money, imo. Momose makes better Fenders than Fender these days too. Fender just seems to be resting on their laurels mostly, to me. The Meteora is about the only new model they've come up with that I can think of in a loooong time. Also matching headstocks should be an option in any guitar above like $200, it's not that hard and it just looks better. Still loving my MIJ Aerodyne Tele though (it has a matching headstock and was under $1k).
I agree, but there’s been a few unique fender designs mostly in the paranormal/alternate reality/parallel universe line up. I kind of hope we see the return of the powercaster at some point. That would be awesome. I think fender is in a no win situation to a certain extent. Give people new designs they complain that it’s not a Strat, tele, JM etc…give people a new Strat, tele, JM, they complain that it’s lacking something or they’re not trying something new.

This seems cool but I’m not a fan of the colors. In fact I don’t like the aluminium pickguard either, if it was gold or black it would be cool. Also it looked better with covered humbuckers but maybe not with the aluminium pickguard.
I disagree! I love a good aluminum guard. Maybe if we had some EMG type covers I’d be game for that. But, not having pickup covers doesn’t bother me too much. But I do love Texas tea! That’s a classic color that I’m glad fender kept around.

This body shape somehow screams to be available in seafoam green, and when I had this conversation in another thread, someone drew my attention to the Soloking SJT series (which has had one for each of us SJT 100 for you SJT200 for me) . Even with import tax they are looking like a serious option while Squier isn't filling the void.

@@-processdrone- Yep!!! I think if Squier does one, I hope we get a paranormal version with the Jazzmaster load out...or if we get an HH at least give it a JM trem.
This body shape somehow screams to be available in seafoam green, and when I had this conversation in another thread, someone drew my attention to the Soloking SJT series (which has had one for each of us SJT 100 for you SJT200 for me) . Even with import tax they are looking like a serious option while Squier isn't filling the void.
@@-processdrone- I’ll have to check out the soloking. I mean I doubt fender reads my comments. But, this is an instance where I hope they do and they hopefully some kind of a demand for a Squier Meteora.

@@tan-jello But I never said or implied that I was being deceptive, I was saying that I let folks know what effects are there. But, I dont understand how effects like distortion and reverb are deceptive? they're built into most amps.
