  • Hunting trucks and the legacy of GMC intertwine in a fascinating tale of adventure and utility. The history of hunting trucks begins with the early evolution of utility vehicles, where enthusiasts modified military and agricultural vehicles to better serve the needs of hunters. These intrepid souls added gun racks, storage compartments, and camouflage paint jobs to create vehicles that could efficiently transport them, their gear, and their prized game. Over time, the introduction of all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) and utility task vehicles (UTVs) added to the array of off-road options, making access to remote hunting grounds easier than ever. Pickup trucks, particularly those with 4x4 capabilities, also became emblematic in hunting culture, offering space for equipment and game.
GMC, the venerable automotive manufacturer, has been instrumental in the evolution of hunting trucks. With roots dating back to 1902, GMC began as the Rapid Motor Vehicle Company, later merging to become the General Motors Truck Company. Its heritage in producing military vehicles during World War II paved the way for robust and durable designs that were well-suited for civilian use, including hunting and outdoor excursions. Post-war, GMC continued to craft a diverse range of trucks, some tailored for off-road and utility purposes. Today, models like the GMC Sierra and Canyon embody the spirit of adventure, with their rugged build and off-road capabilities. Additionally, GMC has periodically unveiled special edition trucks designed for outdoor enthusiasts, including hunters, equipped with off-road suspension systems, unique styling, and enhanced storage options.

Awesome build, one suggestion? On the rims and wheel backs I always scrape away the chrome and try not to paint where they'll mate when gluing.
Testors triangle shaped glue (platic weld) bottle with precision tip works great. Just lay a bead of glue on each inner face, sandwich the tire between them, and use a small clamp until dry.
Keep up the build vid,,, 🙂👍.

Great job. How come you think it's leaning on the passenger side though? Something seems off

Tyres are directional and a very poor fit. Works ok one side only.
Built mine in white with a weathered and rusted finish.

I used a thicker glue I found at hobby lobby. I don’t think it’s for model cars but it held alright. It helps if you lay the truck on the side so the mirror just stays in place with gravity.
